Did it come with any kind of bracket for securing the filter and holding it in place when you bought it???

I bought one 2nd hand and there is nothing to hold it in place, so it just moves about in the engine bay, but I want it to be fastened in place.

On the K-Tec site it shows some kind of bracket in the pic.

Look >>>

Is this a Pipercross part that should some with the Viper, or something K-Tec supply themselves?!

Would like to know then I can source one, or if not how have others got their Vipers secured under the bonnet?

TIA

You mean the black part with K-Tec written on it in the photo?

If so, it looks just like a piece of 1mm sheet metal, just nip down to your local motor factors, and get a piece, then drill 2 holes in it. I had to do that when i bought a 57i for one of my cars

Yeah...

But then where do I get the bit that its bolted to from?! Just a normal hose clip on mine.

Cant remember the name for it, but they are a fitting type for a steel hose clip. If you know a mechanic, just show him the pic and he should be able to give you the name for it

Although, you could just make a metal strap that looks like the Ktec one above, drill a hole in one end for where it bolts to the engine, then make a cut (using a drill) wide enough on the other end to run the hose clip through, and attach it that way.

Got my mate on the case...

When I get one of those hose clips with the captive nut attachment, Im just gonna make a bracket to bolt it to the engine, as theres some handy holes already there. :)

Ok, next question...

Where have you located/mounted the cold air feed and where does it run?!

Got several ideas, just trying to work out wheres best.

My mate (rally mechanic) reckons Im better mounting it higher up behind the grill, as oppossed to mounting it low down (like Id also thought) so as not to suck up cr@p & water from being so low down...

Well, seeing as how it turns out your a local you can look/listen to mine before you buy one and see what you think.

alright guys. im also getting a Viper in next couple of days. Cheers for the info on that bracket. will check it comes as standard b4 taking air box out...

As for locating the air feed... well youre probably right about the dirt and water from the road... but the standard air feed comes from down there piped into the air box... piping it anywhere else would increase the number of bends in the ducting... and i suppose the whole point is making the air feed as unconvoluted as poss...

Im gonna pipe mine down to the n/s bumper grate

Hey Rich-D/Rick_172 is the viper any good?
Was thinking of getting 1 but the hight cost and engine mapping issues have put me off.
Does it sound good?
The Viper is one of the best induction kits you can get and Im very happy with mine"

I know they cost a lot, but you get what you pay for and these carbon filters like the Viper, BMC, etc, all cost the same.

There is no issue with engine mappping there have been fuelling tests on 172s with induction kits and its been found to be ok and with an R-Sport ECU its spot on.

Sounds mint! :D

The reason the fueing is going to be ok is because there is no more air getting in to the engine than a standard set up. I have just recentyl fitted a Group "N" ecu to a car with a viper kit fitted and after seeing how small the actual filter inside the housing was could see why the fueling was not any leaner We use a filter this size for our 1.2 16v kit. I have recomended the customer try one of our induction kits which use a greater filter area. More info when i get some feed back.

how much for your kit plus rsport ecu and what would the benefits be. i suppose no major power gains but an increased throttle response and a quicker feel to the car. yes?

GPRIM Youre about right on the car performance . By far the most noticable effect of the ECU is the the way the throttle responds on acceleration. Smaller throttle movements seem to pick the engine up quicker This mod seems to me to improve the car in the areas that most people drive at most of the time ie not full throttle at 6750. If you e-mail me from http://www.hillpower.co.ukwww.hillpower.co.uk I can send you some info

Just make sure you clean you filter regulary as i had one on my 1.2 16v yeah i know lady shopper lol, had my air feed down the nearside lower grill and it always sucked up all the sh*t, but what as more worrying was all the small grit that was getting into the the filter box couldnt of done the engine any good and i also checked for rips in the filter but they where none.Lovely bit of kit though.

Rich-D, You could always try bolting it to the mod bracket stay like i have done, and as for locating the air feed to the top grill this isnt possable as there is no space for the air feed to go, the best place is the lower grill by far, never had no problems with it being there regarding sucking in water unless you go through a stream which is unlikely. For my cold air feed i used a Renault Master Turbo induction pipe it even had the elbow on the end to sit flush to the bottom grill.

Those Piper X boys rule!!

My Viper has had the airfeed pipe dissintegrate!!! only checked it yesterday after the induction note completely changed. This is probably why my results sucked at the Northampton RR Day!! Looked as though a couple of the bends have split so it has been sucking hot air.

As I live in Northampton...home to PiperX... I thought Id pop in to get a new cold air feed pipe.

My original one was the small 60mm cardboard one so thought it was strange when everyone else said they had the bigger bore one....anyway they replaced the airfeed pipe with the big bore one...cloth and steel wire...... along with the end for the filter and the air entry cone.......

for FREE!!!

Also asked about cleaning it....was told to only empty the small children and animals it would suck up and clean it after 20K miles.....and they have the cleaning kit for it.

Everything you see in the picture is included in the kit...but shouldnt be a problem getting it...
