AUX & Cambelt Change Advice!

hello alll

i got a clio 1.2 16v dynamiaque 53 plate, its approxamtly on 36K Milage and it just turned 4 years old.

I took it to the stealers to check something and i got talking to their chief technician about the cambelt and he said is due for change due to the age of the car.

so i asked how much for the work and parts:

he got back to me and said £290 for the full belt kit as well as checking the water pump.

now i need to know to be on the safe side are they trying to get my cash or is it due for the belts change?

is this whats getting changed:

- cambelt
- aux belt
- cam seals

anything else i missed?

that price will just be for the aux belt, i doubt it will include the cambelt

i,m pretty sure he said all the belts and tensioners.

he said that to me thats pretty good price.

how much in the uk for a cambelt change on a 172 and at what mileage for the second change pls?

Just booked my 1.6 in for its 36k service and requested full belt change as well. Full belt kit inc both belts and seals is coming out at 309.20. So I would say pretty accurate price for yours I would have thought.

funny this thread should come up today as i was just about to post.
i did my cambelt today (same engine) the cars done 40k miles and 04 plate.
mainly as i was a bit bored had a bit of spare time and the incentive to do it i went to work got my tools and a belt kit and set about changing the belt.
got it all off to find the waterpump was very tight to turn+ a bit rough feels like it has no grease in the bearings
trying to find a waterpump on a saturday at 20 to 4 is a laugh beleive me, but what did make me wonder is looking at the state of the pump now i genuinely dont think it would have gone another 32000 miles
oh and i took a few pics going to put together a how to next time im bored

oh - and just to give you a guide as to prices .
(non genuine parts by the way - fine for 1.2)

gates belt kit - trade - 83.19 inc vat - retail - 93.06+vat (MPD)
waterpump - trade 35.84 inc vat - retail - 68.26+vat (GSF)

Had my cambelt,tensioners and aux belt changed Thursday this week on my 02 172...and it cost me £485 inc labour...not that bad as Renault wanted to charge me £789!!!!!!

Bloody hell this threads been spammed from every direction!
It appears some people are getting confused with 172's here, the thread is about a Dynamique read the question you numpty!

Its due at 5yrs old/ 72k WHICH EVER COMES FIRST -I ve put capitals as some car dealers think its just 72k, not funny on an S reg Clio I looked at!

I paid £300 for a cambelt and waterpump change (1.2 16v) at a specialist, its worth getting the waterpump done whilst your in that area, mine was showing signs of leaking on 51k.
Having said that its not that hard to do yourself, my brother did his on his 1.2 16v himself no problem.

Fred's/ Ditz offer is a bargain take him up on it, I haven't met Didz but I ve met Fred and I would say he's better than Renault, £150 your onto a winner.

cambelt, tensioner, alternator belt, aircon belt if fitted.

cam seals arent really worth it imo.

is that everything for a full belt change, its coming up to 36000 and its yrs old now.

what about the waterpump?

^yep that also, thats the first thing to go on a 1.2 16v, they leak through the bearing

No cam seals that 172 style.
