B-shaw’s PH1 Exclusive

Almost a year later... I have an update of sorts.

Wheels still aren't on 😂
Not done a great deal, spent all my money last year on shoes rather than the car.

Think the only thing I really did last year was remove the CD changer and install an AUX in.

Pretty happy with it, looks as if its meant to be there.

Then I had a rather big change of career late in the year. From working in retail to getting a job in a garage making Longlife custom exhausts.
I'd say it was at this point I forgot all about buying trainers and the motivation to start doing car stuff started to creep back in.

I was lucky enough to be able to make my own exhaust whilst I was down at Longlife HQ in Bridport on my training.
I didn't really want one, was happy with my setup I got off Tom... but it was a free exhaust so I couldn't turn it down haha.

Please bare in mind I'd never really even picked up a welder until 2 week prior to making this system, so the welding is pretty crap in places. Especially the hanger on the back box as I blew through and it warped to f**k haha.... But anyway, said system.

It's by no means perfect, but hey... how many people can say they literally made their own exhaust? haha.
Eventually I plan to do another, using only TIG welding with mandrel bends/pie cuts. This will come when I get around to turboing it. But that's a while off yet haha.

We then had a new toy installed at work, not something I really have anything to do with yet, but I did let them use the clio as a training mule...

Seems the new exhaust helped. We actually went a smaller bore than the Ktec system (2.25" instead of the 2.5")

Got consistently higher than the last time it was on a dyno, that was somewhere in the middle as they did about 8 power runs. Was also literally an hour or so after it was calibrated so it should be pretty much bang on.

Had a few issues in the next month or so, needed another new track rod end, then it failed its mot with a brake fluid leak.
Must have started pretty much the week before the MOT, as it was the same side as the track rod we replaced and it certainly wasn't leaking then.
Had to loose both my front braided hoses, seems they'd cross threaded. Will get around to fitting new braided ones again eventually.

Then we fast forward to this week, when something popped up locally for cheap that I simply couldn't refuse (even though this took a massive chunk out of what I'd put by for coilovers)

Picked these up for £260, on X-low subframes

Gave them a little clean and got them straight in on Saturday at work. God bless having use of a ramp at work, and a welder.
Noticed one of the recliner bars had snapped once I got them home, on the drivers seat.

Removed the rear seats & belts too, just awaiting a mat that I ordered to tidy it up a little.

Need to get something sorted for these too, might get a trimmer to make something up for me, not sure yet.

Hit 90K just after fitting them too, starting to get old.

Did the resistors today, didn't work, Maplins gave me the wrong ones (no surprise there)
Will try sort that tomorrow as I cannot stand having warning lights on the dash.

They have seriously transformed the car though, feels so different in these seats. Standard seats sit so high, these are really low in comparison, much much better.

Loads more to come hopefully in the next few months. All in preparation for the Nurburgring in August.

Funny you say that, I was dead against cutting the bumper, I at 1st completely refused.
Then we just couldn't get it sitting right at all without cutting it, so though f**k it, worse case, I'll get a new bumper.
From a normal height its barely even noticeable tbh, it doesn't bother me like I thought it would.

just read whole thread, great work and really looking forward to seeing it on the wheels as they look epic in the trial fit, don't think the colour choice could be any better!

Did you get some covers made for the pre tensioners? If not, I've got a template that Jon Foz sent me with dimensions etc for the covers.

I can't wait, the time is edging closer!

Not yet, no. I don't think any sort of metal cover is an option as for some reason they sit basically up against the handbrake cover.
I'm still thinking just a suede sock like thing just to hide them, I'll get around to sorting it eventually.

Bought a cup spoiler for cheap off here as it was damaged.
Touch wood, I've fixed this. All prepped for paint.

Also been on quite a shopping spree for some cool little touches. Hoping to have everything completed within 6 weeks.

Yeh, the template that I've got is so you can make some out of material. Most people go for the leather material. Not seen any with a 'hard' cover like the plastic ones on the standard seats.

how'd you fix it mate? Mine has a damaged edge. Just be careful when fitting as mine due to a previous repair made it tight and then it cracked off when getting the spoiler sat right.

Ahh ok, if you could send me the template then that'd be sick!

And some very strong glue. Should be any reason it'd make it any tighter on this, no extra material on the inside.

On Sunday I thought I'd tidy up something that has been bugging me since owning the car.
The little trim piece behind the rear wiper. Just wanted to remove it to give it some paint and pop it back on.

Nothing I had at home was cutting it to pull the wiper arm off, so off i popped to grab something to pull it off.

34210198636_e247d406ca_c.jpg

Handle snapped off it almost instantly, great. Out came the pipe grips.

Talking of snapped stuff....

34099061491_4ce523a66d_c.jpg

Arm snapped off the actual spline bit, great stuff.
Still couldn't get the trim piece over this, time to resort to plan B

And off

Next up, what happens when you don't have a grommet lying around that fits, and its about 5:30 on a Sunday

Next is what happens when you refuse to pay £30 odd for a blank, neither did I wish to wait for something to come.
Removed all material that protruded

33419016723_769a3fa3ac_c.jpg

Pulled this out the bin (literally) for plastic, it's a heater resistor panel thing from my moms Lupo that I replaced the other day.

34189171676_b4d3d1508d_c.jpg

Drew around it, 'cut' it out

34072763702_5af1608008_c.jpg

Used some tape to hold it in position

34072756562_c4d0513caf_c.jpg

Plastic welded, using a soldering iron and a cable tie as filler rod.

Filler

Primer

34189146576_9eb6d73e51_c.jpg

Satin Black

33388015924_73c2f1e794_c.jpg

And fitted the following morning

33440403303_8bc343bcfb_c.jpg

Could've done with another skim of filler to fill some little air pockets but I wanted it done and on for the following morning and really didn't have time.
I'm happy with it though, considering all I used was stuff I had lying around, essentially it cost me nothing

May go over it in gloss black at some point, or possibly body coloured when I get spoiler and other bits painted. Not sure yet.

I'd love an Exclusive. It's the first RS I ever drove! My mate worked at Renault when they were new and he came round to my house during a PDI. Lol.

What wheels are they?!?

Wheels are Sparco Terra (made by OZ) 16x7
Gone with 205/45/16 Falken's on them. Was so difficult making the choice on tyres, kinda just went with what the boys at work with run, and rate for the price.

Did a few bits today, Fitted rear axle spacers, cup spoiler and some cool little lock covers.

All little things, spacers aren't really even noticeable currently, but hopefully will have it spot on with the new wheels/ride height.
Just went with 5mm ones each side, they also have half a degree of camber.

Cup spoiler makes such a difference though, as do those lock covers weirdly.
Used to bug me, the big silver locks (most people wouldn't even notice them I bet) from a side on view they make it look so much cleaner.

Inner ARB bushes, camber bolts, front H&R bolt on spacers and coilover socks all on order. Best get here before next weekend.

More to come tomorrow

They're of a good quality it seems, just annoying that they don't fit the original holes in the pedals.
I managed to make them work using one original hole and drilling another hole. Would have just been better if they were a simple bolt on affair than having to drill new holes.

So glad the weather was sick today, normally it rains when I want to do stuff
Anyway, I did stuff

Started off like this..

34387974021_8a5c224fce_c.jpg

Took some stuff off

34476891756_670e3aef3f_c.jpg

Fucked this stuff off after seeing @Dr Jekyll without them

34476892986_506f7653cc_c.jpg

Added some new shiny stuff

33675791154_9c2de03b8d_c.jpg

More shiny stuff

34387900011_ebba4037e5_c.jpg

Then after even more stuff, it looked like I'd done stuff to it

34132538390_f12e7bf6b2_c.jpg

33675760434_e3690d4f13_c.jpg

(ignore the million degrees of positive camber in the last pic, I adjusted it after with camber adjusting stuff)

A mate caught me admiring my stuff

33675817804_e45287067c_c.jpg

Put some old stuff back on the front as the tracking seems pretty bad, will do to get me to work where I can bang it on the Hunter tomorrow.

34476809586_8f9d665132_c.jpg

I'm quite happy with it :grinning::cool::hearteyes:

Did the tracking at work Monday night

34407032221_ae9ee64f7c_c.jpg

Front's are catching the inner arch whenever I turn sharp, think I need to bring it up a touch tbh.

Couple of pics of how it is now:

Rear passenger brake is also making a clicking/knocking noise to which I cannot figure out why. Took it all apart tonight and re-assembled, nothing looked wrong, still doing it.
God knows what it is, doing my head in though.
