Next up was the Recaros.

Been avoiding giving them a scrub for a while. I would still like to get a wet vac on to them but just not had an opportunity to do that yet. However they have been vastly improved with some foamy fabric cleaner.

After:

Gave the car a very quick wash and tucked It back in the garage.

Now on the hunt for a method of getting a pressure washer that I can either run off a battery and bucket as i'm too far from the house to run a hose and power out here. Feel free to throw me some suggestions.
Looking good!

Can I have your bonnet and bumper please 😉

Haha both look nice from afar, bonnet has a little spot of rust so I'm on the constant look out for a mint flame red one, bumper also needs a bit of paint!

Love the seats, what are they out of? Do the tilt forward?

Cheers man, Yeah they tilt forward. They would have been a special order from Recaro. Done some research on them the other night someone paid and eye watering amount for them at some point then they ended up in a Clio.

After the weekends trip out in the flamers, I had to plan some maintenance.

Had popped a tyre while out on a trip over some country roads.

some pictures from the trip and tyre:

So dropped off a ledge and hit a pothole, ripped a hole in the tyre. Thankfully had a spare with me:

Ive ordered a new Rainsport 5 from Camskills today, pretty sickening as the last one had barely done 500 miles.

Both front wheels need balanced so was best just to get the car up in the garage and do a few jobs while the wheels where off.

With limited space in the garage bumper off and jacked up off the subframe up on stands, and set about cleaning out under the arches:

My Fabia splitter has seen better days as has the condition of the front bumper. However re mounted the splitter again to square it up as it was seriously on the piss.

Having had some chats with Stu about what's next on the list, I plan on getting it off the road again around September/October time.

Would like to drop the rear beam, subframe and wishbones etc and have everything powder coated along with the wheels refurbed as they again have seen better days.

While everything is off id like to under seal everything and address any rust spots.

Im now lusting after a PMS exhaust after hearing Stu's Ph1 at the weekend. So my Yozza may be up for sale in the not too distant future.

Bit the bullet and got myself a pms system, it still baffles me how this is going to be quieter than the yozza with a sports cat and a mid res.

Went for the tried and tested decat and no mid silencer.. I'm hoping for quieter at low speed and just as loud when giving it some beans. Time will tell if this does the trick, I can always order different parts of the exhaust later if this doesn't quite suit my needs.

Should have this on next week some time, so if anyone is after a Yozza + a Ktec sports cat I should have it off and polished up shortly. Feel free to shoot me a message to discuss a price, I will more than likely have an ad up for it as soon as its off.

Got the PMS exhaust on over the weekend, first impressions are very good. Really happy with how it sits in the bumper in comparison to the yozza, also much prefer the motorsport inspired slash cut tip. was never a fan of how the yozza sat under the bumper and inward rolled. Need to find an intact 182 exhaust surround that's not going to cost the earth. Not a big fan of the whole carbon fibre thing that pms sell.

Got the car out yesterday for a decent run, on first start up of the car I was worried it was roughly the same noise wise as the yozza, however after listening more the pms has eliminated the drone that we had before.

In comparison on actually driving the thing its much more civilised, you can travel at normal speeds and it will be fairly quiet with a slight hint of rumble. Where the yozza would verge on impossible to not make your presence known.

Motorway driving with the yozza id travel at 60 mph and you couldn't hear yourself think with the drone. Pms I can travel at 70mph and it is not very intrusive, im not saying it is silent at the end of the day its still a Clio with a straight through exhaust with a back box however it is very surprising how quiet it is.

Giving the car some throttle, honestly nothing in my eyes beats the sound of a Clio at full chat with a yozza, the drone disappears and just sings. Pms is definitely quieter now and replaces the deep tone of the yozza with a lovely rasp.

All in all I'm over the moon with the PMS exhaust its ticking every box for me that I wanted out of a system for the Clio, I was very wary before buying a system with only a back box to silence it, I didn't quite understand how it would be as quiet as it is. Another pro for the pms is now I have lost the 200 cell sports cat and a centre silencer it has lost a very slight amount of weight. Has transformed the car for me and made it much more enjoyable to drive.

If anyone is after a cat back yozza I will stick up a for sale thread once I have polished it all up feel free to shoot me a message.

Will hopefully get some more videos at a later date, it sounds lovely with the cams at idle.

Heres some pictures from my run out yesterday:

Next thing that's up I've got a change of wheels coming, recon I will still keep the turinis with the rainsports and have the 2118s for some Ad08r's or similar.

Not totally happy with the front brakes, have changed the fluid up front when we done all the work a couple months ago. I have DS2500 up front and Brembo discs however just feel they lack any sort of grab so will be investigating that sooner rather than later.

Not much has been done apart from a bit of driving in the car, as this was built in mind of doing a few road trips I decided to take the car from Glasgow down to County Durham over the weekend to visit some family.

It was my first reasonably lengthy journey, 314 mile round trip with a mix of motorways, A roads and took a little trip out over some local B roads around Derwent reservoir.

The Clio performed faultlessly, although on the way down with the temperature sitting at 27degrees it was a tad warm with no aircon and my blowers not working. Windows down the full way sat at 70, had earplugs in for the journey to save my hearing. I would never have done this journey with the old Yozza on the car. I feel the PMS has made the car much more bearable.

I was worried I would be driven mad with the rattle from PMS shifter however at motorway speeds with earplugs in and music on you can't hear it.

All in all very impressed with the Clio calculated an average of 39.5 mpg. not sure how much I would want to drive over 200 miles in a day in it as it does get a bit tiring.

Had packed the car full of spares, tool kit, injectors, axel stands, jump leads and some wooden ramps "just incase" thankfully wasn't needed.

Some pictures around Derwent Reservoir:

Another few miles under its belt over the last couple of weeks, really enjoying the car at the minute.

Went down to Inveraray from Glasgow and back to meet up with a good friend. Got some pics of both flamers together and he relieved me of some cash in exchange for some wheels!

So back home now ive picked up some AD08 RS, cleaned and degreased the wheels and applied new decals. unfortunately made a balls up of one sticker so goes along with the perfectly imperfect characteristics of the Clio.

Sitting a bit high at the front as it was just off the jack, looking forward to getting some snaps at the weekend.

I will still be keeping the Turinis however ive wanted a set of 2118 since back in 2008 when I had my first Clio , its been a long time coming.

Turinis have also needed a refurb since long before ive owned the car.

Lovely mate! Have you had any paintwork done on it, if so any problems matching it? Mine's a little more orange on the roof!

Thank you, I've personally not had any paintwork done, but the more I nosey around it I recon at some point it has had some paint on the quarters and possibly the doors. although the match is that good that possibly the previous owners have kept it in good nick, I've seen many other flamers that are badly sun damaged on the roof and bonnet where mine looks fresh, so it may have been dry stored or under cover most of its life.

I do at some point plan on having at least the front end resprayed so can comment better on matching it once that happens.

I'm going to get some quotes for my front end soon although in reality a full respray is probably what's needed.

Such a nice colour! Just skimmed through the thread, great work and definitely warming to how it looks on the Turinis 👌

Thanks. I will definitely have them back on at some point, undecided on either silver or anthracite although im going to enjoy it on the 2118s for the time being while I decide

Anthracite IMO works so well but would be interested to see silver. 2118s, another on point choice... Enjoy 😎

Lovely car, it’s pure clio perfection on the Turinis

I really must get some Turinis for my car.

I get the track car tyre choice thing but 15’s just look so wrong to me.

cheers mate, if you saw the turinis up close you’d realise why they are off for the time being. Couple have corroded all the powder coat off the backs of the spokes and inner wheel.

I definitely prefer the look on turinis they will be back on at some point. But I also love the purposeful/motorsports look of the 2118s.

Had the car out over the weekend again as a friend was up in Scotland at a drift weekend. First I've driven it on the new wheels and tyres and can safely say I'm properly impressed with the AD08rs, even just at cruising speed having that extra side wall is lovely.

Getting back to the little odds and ends to tidy the Clio up I had ordered a few things mixture of eBay and RPD.

First up was something that's annoyed me since the day I got the Clio 2 years ago, getting rid of the little anodised screws/washer that someone had used to hold the arch liners on.

Please excuse the dust and dirt not had a chance to give it a good scrub after last weekends outing:

I had done both sides however I'm sure you get the idea. Much better anyway.

Next up is something that bothered me however didn't even know this part existed until I either saw someone on here or instagram that had changed theirs out, the radio stalk controls that don't work when you have an aftermarket head unit. Renault still sell a blank for the cowl totally ideal! Ordered from Renault Parts direct.

Ordered from here on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Not a million miles away from OEM although slightly smaller diameter. Loads better than a burst one:

Also from RPD I had ordered a new rear wiper surround, now I had put this off for some time even though the part was only £6.24 or there about.

As anticipated everything pretty much fell apart or was seized.

pictures don't do it justice just how faded it was:

New Part:

50307867983_4be9873097_c.jpg

Soaked in WD40:

Then snapped the wiper arm off and soaked in more WD40:

Untitled by blair mccaffery, on Flickr

Didn't take any more pictures because I was getting my sweat on trying to remove the little nut tried hammering on a small socket over it but wouldn't budge. Resorted to removing the motor and cutting it off then cleaning the threads off.

Cleaned up and re assembled:

50308723332_b756a66989_c.jpg
Untitled by blair mccaffery, on Flickr

Have now ordered a new wiper arm and blade so will wait for that to come and have it back together looking fresh again.

Ave ordered more odds and ends just to tidy bits up although they haven't arrived yet, including new push rivets for the grille and the scuttle panel.

Also on the lookout for a new 182 exhaust surround as the one on mine is missing a piece don't fancy paying the Ktec price for the remanufactured one and not a fan of the carbon fibre PMS one.

Continued the tidy up on the car although i've not taken any pictures of the new grille and scuttle panel push rivets, also re assembled the rear wiper with a new arm and all the gubbins, on trying to get It working again I must have disturbed a connector on the motor so have to pick up a good second hand motor at some point to get that back in working order.

Anyway put another couple hundred miles on the car which I recon will be the last of the year. Met up with a few of the lads for a drive over to Glencoe and Kinlochleven. Scenery was as always outstanding, weather was great and roads where busy so not too much in the way of opening the clios up. I shall let the pictures do the talking brilliant end to the year and all clios had zero issues!!!

Thats it tucked away for winter, gave the car a final dusting off got all the road grime off it, shall keep it turned over got a few bits and bobs id like to address over winter. Little rust patch under the fuel filler cap and some preventative maintenance in at the inner arches. They are in no way bad however passenger side showing some very light scabbing on the inside should buff off no problem.

Other than that I'm saving for a new daily so might not see too much in the way of big changes between now and next May, however I've said that before..

Nothing huge to report, Car is booked in for the 21st of October to get some power runs at SOS motorsport. The ECU was from a previously mapped car with very similar spec however not identical, So would like to see where we are at with the graph and go from there. If its going to need a tweak in mapping I may just throw 197 injectors In it at the same time.

Finally after what feels like an eternity (5 months) the good old DVLA got me my V5 back with change of address so I could go about swapping plates on to this.

Bought Stick on Velcro from Screwfix after seeing my mates s14 Drift cars full bodykit held on with the stuff.

Added some Velcro:

Hey Presto we have new plates:

At the moment I still prefer having it on the standard style plates, possibly once I have a new daily I will swap these back off.

Had the Clio along at Sos Motorsport in Falkirk today for some power runs to see where it was at.

The engine came out of a ph1 with the cams and ARP rod bolts already fitted. the mapped ecu was previously mapped by EFI to a similar spec'd engine to mine.

Wanted to see if all was well and i'm more than happy with the number and the power delivery.

Not a huge amount to report on the Clio front, thought id update this for updates sake. Had planned on having the rear beam and subframe off over winter to get the underside undersealed and everything else powdercoated along with some new bushes here, there and everywhere. Alas life happens and dealing with a bathroom needing done and being moved out of the house by our insurance for 7 months I really didn't have the time to look at the Clio. So it remained untouched and left in the garage over winter.

I was also on the hunt for a new daily as my Ibiza goes back to lease later this month, I was really after a v70 d5 or an xc70 d5 however nothing was local or just all seemed dogs for the money. This Laguna kept cropping up on my searches and really jumped out at me so went to have a look. Full service history 1 owner from new 78k miles and managed to get £600 off the listed price due to it having no real paperwork for the belts being done recently. For anyone interested its a Laguna 3 Dynamique S T A. So 170bhp petrol automatic, runs away with the fuel but its a lovely big wafting machine... well I've not dailyed it yet I had just picked it up and dropped it at my good friend Stu for the belts back in February and ive yet to pick it up (Sorry Stu). Bar some cosmetic dings and the like it should do me for a while until I decide what's next on the daily front.

So back to the Clio, Taxed it on the 1st of April, knew it needed the fluids changed so ordered a service kit from Kam Racing. managed to get the oil changed over at Stu's unit and got some miles in.

I had known the alignment needed sorted for quite some time, I really had no idea how bad it was. I did think I had maybe slightly buckled a wheel as I was getting a vibration over 70mph.

Booked in to Automek in East Kilbride, can't recommend Andrew and the team enough. Really Knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. The initial results are shocking.. As you can imagine its like a totally new car to drive.

51153512395_af7dca6edc_c.jpg
Untitled by blair mccaffery, on Flickr

Had a good look over the car during service time, in the back of my mind for a while I wasn't too happy with the brakes. from the outside everything looked ok, was running HC discs and DS3000 pads. I don't have pictures however the pads and discs where totally glazed on the inside. On further inspection the rear lines needed replaced as did both handbrake cables.

So a quick and pleasant chat with @George@RTR_Parts and I had some Mintex M1144 pads and HC Discs along with some Typ200 fluid and the other odds and ends needed on their way. Also have some new Powerflex ARB bushes waiting to go on as well as the current ones look a bit past it.

Set about yesterday changing the discs and pads with Stus's supervision as I'm not what you would call the most handy around cars. But job done and she stops like she should now.

MOT is due in the middle of this month so hopefully get these bits done and try and enjoy some of the summer festivities and drives out. Really enjoying how the car is at the moment, nothing I would really change!

Some maintenance done to the car, Had brake lines on the rear replaced as they where looking rather crusty.
2 new handbrake cables and a new shock as one had blown on the rear.

Brake Fluid changed from oem renault to Typ200.

Also Had New ARB bushes fitted went for purple Powerflex as they worked out to be the same cost as oem.

Thanks once again to @Stu. for his wrenching skills.

Got my Turinis back from powder coat too as ive sold the 2118s. Loved the wheels but with doing more road miles and wanting to make the car a little more comfortable I think the turinis suit it better, I had them refurbished in a Porsche Anthracite.

The laguna loading capabilities more than up to the job!

Picked the car up from @Michaelfoz after a stage 1 polish. Really pleased with how it's brought that POP back to the stunning flame red paint. If you're in or around Scotland I highly recommend a visit if you're thinking of having any work done. Also cleaned out under my arches while it was there. Some Before and afters:

After moaning on here about a the car being a bit too harsh for me on the longer drives we set about making it a bit more liveable.

I had been following @frayz progress with sound deadening, but as a cheaper heavier way ive just lobbed the rear bench back in the car for the time being and it seems to have cut down cabin noise a fair bit.

Car had developed a bit of a hesitation very intermittently, still not sure why it was happening but I changed the throttle body and it seems to have done the trick thus far.

Sold the 2118s and had my Turinis refurbed in a Porsche anthracite. Really do like the look of the ph2 on 16s just feel they suit it better.

Back to quietening it down, dabbled with the idea of adding the sports cat and centre silencer to the pms system, but with the sports cat being out of stock (and quite pricey) I opted to try the centre silencer for the time being and can lob in the cat at a later date if need be.

Up to @Stu. once again to borrow his muscle to get it fitted along with some odds and ends needing sorted.

Glad I didn't attempt it on the drive as it tuned out to be quite a footery wee job.

I didn't get as scientific as Frayz however I did take an after DB reading on the motorway with the windows up and windows down at 70mph.

Hugely happy at how it is now on the motorway, not intrusive at all and I'm pleased to report the drone has gone.

I actually prefer the overall sound of the exhaust now, sounds much less piercingly raspy. To me it sounds just right now.

Im taking the car to Clios and Coffee Drive on the 1st of august where I think I will rack up close to 600miles over about 3 days of driving, so that will be the test.

Still trying to hunt down a mint pair of 172 seats so I can sell the recaros and lounge about in comfort.

Not updated this in a while, sold off the recaros and have a pair of 182 seats in the front now. Bliss for the type of driving I do in this.

I’ve fairly neglected the car for the winter period and with CS festival booked I wanted to get it MOTd and serviced.

dropped the oil and ended up noticing a few bits I wanted to sort out…

Installed a cup blower motor and blocked off the hole in the bulkhead.

Turned out to be an inlet off job so fired in new plugs while I was there. Really didn’t anticipate having to take the dash top off etc to get the blower out, Sod’s law always a bigger job than expected!

Also took the exhaust apart to get a Sports cat welded in that i can swap in and out when need be. While having the cat jacked up the box decided to leak it’s fluid everywhere, not yet investigated that but I’ve bought new fluid and plan on getting under it and seeing what seal has gone, appears to be coming out of the shaft.

Also while prodding about I noticed that the radiator had come apart at the bottom, this happened before a few years ago and dropped its Coolant and left me stranded, I pick up a new radiator tomorrow so set about today getting it out.

Stripped down the bonnet latch while I was there and gave it a clean and re grease, along with the radiator brackets have given them and the ecu cover a lick. Didn’t bother taking photos as I was just getting wadded in!

Hope to have it mostly together this week when the exhaust is done and get her motd and on the road. Have a slightly rumbly wheel bearing that I don’t know if I can ignore before going down south, but might do it just for peace of mind!

I’ve not been too picture heavy here as I’ve just been working sweating away on the car. I’m not used to this manual labour these days!
So after investigating why my box was leaking turned out to be a torn seal at the gearbox end. Easiest solution was grabbing a shaft from renomotive and throwing it in.

Really less than ideal in my tiny garage but I got there in the end.
Had a sports cat knocked up for mots and to try and kill some fumes on the longer drives. It’s just a cheap Chineseium one so I might have a better one made at some point if it doesn’t strangle the power.

When I parked the car in winter I had an eml light come on and I wasn’t sure why, I ignored it and left it anyway.
So on starting the car again she was rough as a dog and had occasional “coil”? Light anyway I done the obvious things first code read and cleared codes and they kept coming back on.

So after changing the throttle body and pedal over for some spares and nothing changing I set about pulling apart the dreaded white plug. Low and behold green and fuzzy inside. Went at it with some sand paper and a screw driver and plugged it all back together. Job jobbed car back to normal. Let it run for a while and bled up the radiator. Off for MOT this week so fingers crossed I can just clean it up and hit the road to Blyton park. It’s now time to work on the van!!

Clio has been MOTd, fuelled, cleaned and tucked away, ready to hit the road on Friday.

Managed to get a set of used but good condition NS2r’s and fired them on some dynamique wheels for blyton at the weekend. I was going to run it on the rainsports but I was getting a bit worried about temperatures and having to drive 540 miles round trip on them too. So these should save my road wheels at least.

Cars looking good, beginning to look forward to CSFestival now, I’ve decided I won’t be taking 2 vehicles to something like this again it’s too much stress 😂!
