Bah - Still cutting out

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
Map sensor should be easy enough to spot, as with the engine not running it should read atmospheric, 1000mbar ish, normally if they go out of calibration it effects them there as well.

I'm assuming the Map sensor is the one in blue on the following:

Can you tell from these graphs if there's a problem at all? You can see from the stall image that the MAP goes up to 1000 as you suggested.

If it goes to 1000 when you stall, that sounds like it is reading correctly.

Obviously its possible it could be out of calibration during vacuum and correct at atmospheric, but its relatively unlikely.

Sorted! I think.

Removed the Lambda ECU clip from both front and rear sensors. Seems to have fixed the problem.

Need to now remove the rear sensor and swap it with the front and connect it back up to the ECU loom. See if that fixes it. If not, I'll need a new lambda.

What's the routine for removing the rear lambda, including plugging etc?

Fingers crossed this has concluded. Will still try on the other throttle body and coil pack though. Oh and I'll take a picture of the connection from my decat to downpipe as I'm not sure it should be spaced like it is.

Thanks for all the help, guys. Chip, I'm glad you suggested unclipping both sensors.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
It could still be a red herring as the fuelling changes quite a lot when the lambda isnt plugged in so its possible its hiding some other issue now, but fingers crossed it is just that simple!

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
Yeah understood that's why I need to swap them and plug it back in. All I know is it isn't cutting out anymore with both lambda's omitted.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Fingers crossed then mate that its either the sensor or the wiring for the sensor, as these sort of things can be a real PITA to trouble shoot.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
ps

after swapping over I would leave the ecu disconnected to encourage a reset, even though it shouldnt technically be required.

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
What do I plug the rear sensor hole with once the lambda is out?

Also, is it possible to swap them over or is the rear shorter (cable wise) than the front?

Well you learn something new every day. Or every new post with this thread.

You clever buggers.

Glad its sorted it... fingers crossed that it... now to return all your new parts that hopefully wont be needed. Glad it worked!

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
Not sure it's sorted. It's not cutting out anymore with both lambda's disconnected, but this morning when driving the alternator light came on. Didn't cause any problems with driving but it's on and staying on.

Hmm.

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
Out of interest, battery voltage when running is over 14v. With engine off it's 13.5v. So I'm not sure the alternator is buggered.

How annoying.

Won't be able to today mate, got a funeral which is an all day thing. Will keep you posted. Like I say the cutting out issue is sorted, but now the alternator light is on constant. Car still drives fine so I'm hoping it's yet another electrical fault. I've disconnected the battery now and I'll leave for 15mins or so. My petrol light is on and the trip is reading --- range, but the gauge is still way above 1/4 tank and nowhere near the red. Just makes no sense. Will the battery reset the trip?

Im thinking its a lume issue! if so that bad times, however could be wrong!

Maybe with the trip yeah. Alternator I have no idea. Light won't go off yet car still runs fine. I'm getting lambda's swapped at lunchtime before I go out so maybe that'll fix it as they can throw up all sorts of problems when not plugged in apparently.

Hope so... you might find it all linked. In relation to the fuel light and miles, it could be related to the Lambda. Or alternativly the float in the tank is buggered!

Once you've got it all fixed tho it will be pratically brand new!

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
FFS. It wasn't the alternator light - it was the engine management light. Duh.

Anyway, lambda's swapped, rear one disconnected and taped. No cutting out.

All codes and engine management light reset for free on the diagnostics.

Indeed. Still a little lumpy but with decat I guess that's expected.

Next I need to check on the trip and how that does over the next few days.

As said above, it's like new car the amount I've spent. It's only done 35k miles too. Such a simple fix though.

LOL at the engine management light being the alternator... im glad its not the alternator tho.

Make sure you reset the trip computer first tho, then you can see if it sorts you MPG out mate!

Also take chips advice and maybe re-set the ECU by leaving the battery off for a good 15 mins! The car will then self learn to having the decat on it!

Yeah no idea why I thought it was alternator when I've dealt with that engine management light a few times on other Renaults. Paranoia.

I've already done the battery off thing this morning.

Resetting the trip is just pushing the stalk in on the dash panels, I can't see any other way to reset the figures.

Yep thats correct...

Best bet, fill back up with petrol to the max (just incase the float is stuck, might release it), reset the trip and see how it goes. Your engine mgmt light prob will stay on because the Lambda is still plugged into the decat, not sure if the RS tuner will turn it off!

Light has already been switched off via diagnostics reset :)

  172 Phase 2
is your car still running ok? i currently have the same prob you had. the symptoms are identical to a T. i have a 53 PH2 172. completely standard. i cleaned the TB with no luck and was about to buy a new TB then i saw your thread.

just wondering, if i take this to my local garage, what should i ask them to do/change? should i get them to fit a new lambda or can i swap one and remove the other like you did?

any advice would be great.

cheers.

I also have this problem, cutting out when rolling to a junction with the clutch down.
Is it easy to swap lambda sensors yourself?
I may have a go this weekend.

Just out of interest, this has now resurfaced with the new owner who I work with, 7 months on.

It's definitely not the lambda sensor this time though, so back to the drawing board. FFS.

mines still doing it too. just had it serviced at birchdown. no faults logged. they think it's timing related as it's slightly out. the car had a cambelt by none specialist. tbf it was never the same after that, and it got the whiney supercharger sound. the garage said the belt was tight and would loosen (i know the previous owner) and it only started doing it afterwards.

Quite bizarrely, unplugging the MAP sensor cures the cutting out. However, then replacing it with a brand new sensor costing £40+ returns the fault.

Meh.

Yes, very similar here.

What makes you say its definitely not the lambda this time?

The front one was replaced with a brand new item. Still cut out. Then we unclipped it (like I did the first time in July and the car didn't cut out) and it still cut out with both lambda's not connected.

The car is also running very rich. Very.
