Belt change quote - 182

Been quoted £480 inc vat for both belts on my 182. Does that sound pretty cheap? From what ive read it does but do you think it could be cheaper? Its at the-garage in motherwell so i need to travel up to there which is a good hours drive and then kill some time.

Can anyone recommend anywhere nearer to edinburgh? Just so i can compare prices/distace etc.

Thanks

Make sure they have the correct Renault timing tools. Isn't cheap if you have to have it redone.

  Mondeo TDCI 130
Ours are £460 at the min, thats both kits, genuine parts. £415 if you have a gates (same as renault) after market belt kit and gen aux belt kit.

So it sounds about right to me!!

Cheers lou, have sent them an email to get a quote. The price is with my budget at the-garage but i dont really want to travel that far and kill a day in motherwell. Not the brightest of places.

I had to phone them, never got a response to my email!

Called scotroen and the guy reckoned around 7-800. I told him about the place in motherwell charging £480 and he was shocked it was that cheap. Thought he mite not be doing the full job. Is this a possibility?

Phoned dagleish renault, proberly closest place to me and they reckon about £600 for both belts inc genuine renault parts etc..

Should i opt for the renault people as they use parts/tools or does this not matter as much?

a word of warning, its possible a garage who's never done one before thinks its easier than it is

MAKE sure they know about the specialist RENAULT tools and that its a 7.2hour job (offically i think, can be done quicker)

Its £250ish in parts plus labour

The place that quoted £480 seems to be a decent place. they tune cars etc and have a decent amount of years in the trade. Going with renault may be better i could imagine. Its also alot closer. Spending an extra £120 to get it done by renault closer to home may work out better.

Can anyone recommend "the-garage" ?

Not yet. I will email the girl back tomorow. Shes seems pretty good. If they do say its all okay etc its then a toss up between £120 saving/a day off/ killing a day in motherwell. Or Pay an extra £120, possibly have the car picked up taken away and brought back/No day off etc..

Decisions.

have spoke with them today and they have confirmed they know what they are doing and they have all the specialist tools. they have done the same jobs on othe 182's. they dont use renault gen parts tho. Is this something to consider? If they where to use Renautl parts it would be £550 inc vat for both belts inc pullys and tensioners.

What would you guys recommend? This is my first major issue with my car. Do i go with the-garage with
"blueprint parts" and pay £480. Or go with them and get renault parts for £550. Final option go to renault and pay £600 ish.

Welcome any kind of response.

Thanks, Paddy

Well from reading page one....

I suspect they do but confirm they use gates parts and you're onto a winner

£415 if you have a gates (same as renault) after market belt kit and gen aux belt kit.

edit: sorry I think I misread your question - ignore me lol

please please please PLEASE!!!!!! by all means get the cambelt done with after market bits = fine (ask the make of the parts used!)

BUT, get a full aux belt KIT fitted
(only available from renault @ £110, otherwise in 12-24months you'll be pulling it apart again to replace the idler/tensior on the aux setup anyway

Thanks for the help Fred.

Ive emailed them back to find out a price using renault parts for the aux belt.

It was £550 inc all gen renault parts. Il see what they say and if its aroudn that mark i may just opt to go to my rneault dealer as they are closer and i suppose they may have more knowledge.

cheers

I know its a bit far from Edinbrough but i got mine changed near me using renault parts (both belts and tensioner kit) for £425 and that included a cam variator which needed replacing (dont know what is does but i broke it). The price quoted for just the belt changes was £275+ vat

the 172 i recently bought is in need of a new aux belt, the one that the previous owner had fitted cost £17.36 ( just for the belt) i have the recipets im going off !
and now the tensioner wont handle the belt or sommat like that the mechanic said so now im paying £100 + for the proper kit from renault.

stupid really considerin the previous owner had full renault s/h and saved on aux belt.
one Q to ask tho. the cambelt he had fitted at same time cost £80+ for the cambelt kit alone does that sound like a average price? im worried now im changin the aux belt that maybe the cambelt isnt a good one !!!!

The parts the-garge use are - "Quinten Hazel" - anyone heard of?

They say they have never had any problems with these parts and includeall the tensioners etc...

To get the job done with full renault parts will be £680 inc vat.

Going on that final price it would be cheaper to go to reanault and get both done for £600.

So final question...

Do i go with Quinten Hazel parts for both belts spending £480 in total or go to renault and spend £600 ? Really new to all of this so all help much appreciated.

QH, one of the biggest parts companies in the uk, i use them

QH belt kit is fine

just as said, make sure they fit a genuine renault aux belt KIT and not just the belt (well thats my opinion on it anyway)

Thanks again fred.

Why would a QH aux belt Kit differ from a renault one? £120 saving looks pretty nice to me.

Il double check with renault near me and see if they can lower there price.
