best form of induction

Car  clio 182
carnt decide whats the best form of induction on my clio 182,i tried a powertec filter and felt it lost power, then ive tried standard airbox with k&n pannel filter and it felt quicker but am thinking bout a ktec induction kit that sits the filter in front of the battery but ive noticed that a few people whos bought them have selt them.ive also got a samco hose on at the min so was considering putting a stainless 90 bend and making my own.
what do people thinks best?

Standard box with standard filter or a Ktec kit for small gains, made 4bhp peek power from mine over a standard box and filter, £40 per bhp is actually quite good for F4R tuning :P

I would rather not look at things like that lol

If you're chasing BHP, don't waste your money.

If you want (very) loud induction noise, get a K-tec induction Kit! They sound superb.

Forgot to say, I gained 0.5bhp with a V6 airbox and ITG filter over a standard Ph2 box with an ITG filter on my old car, same rollers ofc.

Induction elbow removed and a pair of tights wrapped over the throttle body;)

Standard airbox with paper filter.

My misses brother actually done that on a brand new TSI Seat Ibiza Bocanegra.

It promptly fucked up everything and he got a new engine under warranty!

Standard air box or if you really want to change go for the v6 air box!!!

Any cone filter will be s**t for this time of year if you like you car working !!!

When I bought my R32 last year it had a carbon air filter kit on it and it was located behind the bumper just behind the Lower grills, basically pointing at the road ... I was very weary of puddles until I changed it back to standard !!!

Good point especially with all the floods etc. Personally i have a K&N panel filter in mine as it was on the car when i bought it, if it hadn't had it i wouldn't have gone out of my way to buy one. I do like the fact i can just wash and re-oil though.

You'll struggle to find a set of rollers that consistantly reads within 0.5bhp on different days anyway TBH mate so I wouldnt read too much into that.

Agreed, all these people thinking some silicon pipework and a filter are going to add nearly 10% to their power output like ive seen people claiming are delusional fools. The sound they make is fantastic though.

ITG Maxogen every time for me.

There is a power graph of mine with a before and after from having a yozza and ITG maxogen fitted. Gained considerably through the mid range alone and would've seen even more gains if it had been remapped. I cant remember where the thread is of the graph, I'll dig it out when I get home and post it up.

True but a 4 bhp increase on a standard block is still good for 1*2 tuning imo and like you say, they sound amazing.

Iirc Dan@519 is going to be running some back to back tests in the new year with the k-tec IK.

Wasn't the higher bhp figure found when fitting it to a 438 cammed engine?

Don't know about that I have 438 and dans going to back to back with mine and I take dans advise

They do sound good but so does any open cone setup, i don't think the noise is unique to the KTEC one (Although i have only heard it streamed & not in person).

It would be better to do an independant test not someone who has an interest in selling the product themselves.

IIRC v6/ph1 airbox gives around a 2bhp peak gain but loses torque on the bottom end. I much prefer enclosed filters as the noise isnt as much as an open cone, I do like the look of the k-tec filter and the noise is great for a once every now and then thrash if you want to feel like a chav, however the maxogen wins every time for me.

I don't think many have much experience of the ITG Maxogen due to the price, however there's more coming up for sale second hand now so it's the right time to buy one if you want the best filter set up for a clio.

Unless you can chat a magazine into it, you will struggle to find anyone independant who has a good enough reason to do independant tests that they are going to want to spend their own money on it sadly mate. So its only like to be from people with a vested interest you are likely to see any sort of "test" sadly mate.

I'm sure we could get a few of us at an RR day to whip our induction kits off and stick them on a standard 1*2 to do a few power runs.
Something like a standard filter, panel filter replacement, v6 box, ktec and maxogen.

Im sure we could, and who do you propose pays for all the runs?

I think its a good idea, I would find the results mildly interesting, just not enough to fork out a couple of hundred quid of my own money on RR time.

biggest single gain I've seen was 9.8bhp. the engine had high comp pistons, and 438s. the lower output was using a brand new pipercross panel filter in a ph2 airbox.
I saw 7bhp gain with GT cams, going from a ph1 airbox with brand new pipercross filter, to KTR IK
I think Laines cup with no mods except catback stealth exhaust gained 6bhp when swapping from standard airbox to KTR IK (at RR day in front of about 20 people)

Greeny's car if you look at the graph is making 4bhp extra, peak, but 8/9bhp at a few points

As above, interesting but expensive. How about a regional meet been able to agree a reduced rate with a tuner for say 10 cars to do 2 runs each, with different set-ups. All at meet then offered some discount from said tuner for a period of time, to recoup any loss on RR time, and get new business...

Just a thought...

Looks like waiting for Dan the man in new year TBH..

Unless PFC magazine, fancy answering this through some testing for any reason...???

Make sure you try and find those graphs from Yozza and Maxogen as well please mate..

I just run a 90 degree piece of silicone and a large ram air filter. May of made it a bit flatter low down seems sound when it's high up the revs in this cold weather though.

Didnt do it for gains though more so noise, unless it's forced it's not worth chucking massive money toward induction IMHO. I just enjoy the noise!
