Bottom pulley 182

  Audi A4 quattro 2.7
So had a guy check my car over he took drivers side wheel off and apparently the pulley is worn. He said it's for waterpump, power steering etc.

Can someone confirm? He said it has 3000 miles left. If it brakes while driving does it take the cambelt with it?

Yes, it could take the cambelt with it.

What exactly has he said is worn on the pulley? Or did he mean the belt was worn?

Just get it done, better safe than sorry!

No? Not the belt. Just had new belts. He just said its worn, never went in detail, he told me it won't take the cambelt with it. He just said he/garage would have to look at it because if I tried it myself I could knock the timing out

I assume he is talking about the auxiliary /alternator/accessories belt (whichever you want to call it). If it was worn and you have just had the cambelt done , it sounds silly not to have replaced the pulley too if that was at fault. That belt on its own if it goes could interfere with the cambelt and take that out with it. Need more detail really as to what he was talking about as it doesnt make sense.

Yeah, he's on about that. All he told me it's worn, showed me the surface and just looked old, maybe cracks? I can't remember. I wasn't told until after the cam change so :/

Who did your belt change? Local garage or specialist? The aux kit is meant to be changed at the same time as failure of the aux belt can cause cam belt failure

I've seen so many that are 'worn' only ever had one fail, which was on my own car and that had a supercharger hanging off it. It tends to just stop driving the aux setup rather than throwing the belt off.

So I have nothing to worry about? Got me worried as why tell me after you put the car back together... Also he told me the bottom engine mount has no bolt in it/need replaced, he only looked in the engine bay. I had a look and I have no idea how you can tell without going under the car. Unless they is another one somewhere?

Again who did your belts and did they replace the aux kit?

I don't think that's relevant to his query, he's on about the main pulley with the rubber dampener on it.
If the bottom pulley is changed, it's belts again isn't it? So any decent garage would inspect condition when doing the belts?

My serpentine belt (I just fancied using a different term there!) snapped and it just made the steering feel heavy and stopped charging the battery for a bit, did no harm overall.
