I'd imagine loads of people that don't maintain their cars properly have never had their cam belt changed,
however I doubt you'll find any of them on here.

on topic, it doesn't matter , on a clio or not, rubber is rubber and yes I've changed thousands of Cambelts on various cars , and I've had plenty that haven't been changed but they normally come in as a none runner as its s**t the belt and thrown valves about the place ! How do you explain these failures ? Freak accidents ? And I've seen cars that are 2-5 years old low mileage failed, and cars the on the replacement age fail ! Rubber will fail, yes you can be lucky and hope it will last longer , but it WILL break !

see Quote Below mate. all depends on the different use the type of car gets. And also the Maintenance schedule of the car.

Cambelt snapped on the 172 I had at 72k, it was on its second belt from new, had always been serviced at the correct intervals, riddle me that.

7 Years and 46,000 miles.

Still believe they don't deteriorate?

Yes. A poorly maintained car will show this. A well maintained car won`t. My mate has been a regional manager for Renault for years he has seen it all. he says that if a clio is maintained well and the cambelt is changed by 75k there is no worry`s with camblelt failure :)

OP writes that only mileage and not age matters. Dan post a picture of a car where the belt has clearly failed because of age and not mileage. Op comes back with "A poorly maintained car will show this". If OP would like to explain how that car is poorly maintained if it is having a cam belt change extremely prematurely due to lack of miles covered that would be great.

You have no grounds to be offering this stupid advice and you are not even erring on the side of caution. By all means believe this rubbish yourself and ruin your own cars but don't come on a public forum and spout this poor advice to, not only people who might listen to you, but also professions who have experience and then argue with them when they disagree with you.

As has been said, you are either a troll or a moron. I think both.

If Chaz had been working at Renault, he'd have given you a new engine.

Shame he doesn't.

Maintenance schedule? How is changing your oil and filters make your cambelt last longer?

Re: Cambelt Con/Rip off tactics.

How do you do maintenance on a cam belt, please tell?????

Servicing is oils, filters etc.....

When the belt needs to be done then it needs to be done.

If its 72k or 5 years, end of!!!

When the belt hears there's been an oil and filter change it smokes a spliff to celebrate which relieves stress, therefore extending the life of the rubber.

Duh! Didn't you even know that!

That fat bird you was shagging at the time, well the extra weight was causing more load on the engine therefore killing the belts..

If you used the belt holding her fat in then you would have had no issues.

Re: Cambelt Con/Rip off tactics.

lol mines been changed twice and its only done 80k, it looked rather worn the second time considering it had only done 30k on it.

Re: Cambelt Con/Rip off tactics.

You were obviously driving it wrong.

By the sounds of it I was.. I wonder what he'll advise for my current 200..

A new engine would've been nice, as I unfortunately shelled out 800£ to have the head done, 15 new valves, yes that's right I bent 15 out of the 16 and the gutting thing was, I was only doing 20-25mph.

Ahh right that makes perfect sense. So when there is thick blue/white smoke coming out your exhaust, your head gasket hasn't failed its just your engine smoking a spliff ?

I am stating the opinion of a well regarded renault service and sales manager. who has worked for Renault for 20 years. R.e the poorly maintained issue All I can say is that in his experience he has never heard about a bad condition cambelt being removed from a well serviced Clio. he is in constant contact with a large renault service area. he has seen cars with no service history have failed cambelts at 55k cause of lack of regular oil changes.
