Car Back Tonight

  Broken Diesel Megane :(
got the car back from garage after getting the timing belt, aux belt (plus all pulleys) and the power steering pump.

is it right for the car to feel really tight and be idling rough?

also when i pull away the car sort of judders( if that makes sense :S )

obv i need to give it a good few miles or so to settle and not thrash it, but just wanted to know if its normal?

garage said to bring it back in on friday/saturday to just get belts checked and retensioned if neccesary.

thanks guys

ps: the work cost me £700 in total!

Basically, the 'timing' of the top and bottom pulleys has to match so that the pistons and valves are opening and closing at the correct time and in the correct sequence. The further out they are or the more teeth missed, the more chance there is of valves meeting pistons and both making a big mess.

It requires the belt to be removed, timing checked and refitted.

I would drive there ASAP and demand they look it over.

I'd not expect they've got the teeth out on the belt as its difficult maybe they've set the VVT cam or pulleys wrong.

I'd take an 18 stone Graham Norton type chap to 'deal with' the garage owner.

I take it the place you used wasn't Renault thinking about it so they won't have the right tools so most likly its not done right.

finally got car back.

aux belt still squeking a lil bit, but the juddering has stopped. all the belts were fitted correctly but one of the mounts had moved so he altered that and now runs a lot better.

doesn't inspire confidence eh, £700 and not right - fook.

I'm aiming to get mine done in early June, need to do 3,200 miles to qualify for it under the service agreement I got from Renault when I bought the car - road trips galore for me!
