Car security and trackers

Ok, so since my fn2 was stolen I'm wondering how else i can deter or prevent scum taking my car.

Are these in car trackers any good?

Ive invested in an old skool disklok as a visual deterrent and hopefully will prevent a quick theft.

I also used to have an old f reg escort that had a hidden flick switch that turned the fuel pump or ignition off - is there something as simple as this you could do diy? Remove a fuse each night or similar?

Dislock and leave the keys by the front door. If they want it badly enough give it to them.

Ive got a disklok, wife has the gold stoplock thing as disklok is too cumbersome for her

Or get one of those posts that sink into the ground.

Tbh especially with having a little one. I would leave my keys handy.

It genuinely has always been for me, especially living in Manchester.

Didn't ever think anyone would bother with an fn2, which is another reason i didnt get the dc5

Think a vrs like you have mentioned is a safe bet. I've been looking at the 325d lci, seem a nice car. But then I change my mind and want a Clio lol

I use a old iPhone as my tracker. Hidden deep in the car and constantly on charge.
Alerts my phone when the car is on the move and shows me speed etc.

I left it with a main dealer for a service last week and I got a movement notification. I found it on a technicians driveway.
I can’t go into detail on it though.

But these iPhones work great and allows the owner to track the car rather than a 3rd party.
Just make sure you’ve a spare key to steal the car back.
£3.99 a month for the SIM card and I use a few apps just in case one crashes etc. Been using it over a year and it’s never glitched or let me down.

Doesnt that drain the battery tho? Sounds a good idea. Which sim is it that's only 3 quid a month?

Doesn’t touch the car battery at all. iPhone alone will run a week off it’s own steam.
Maybe if the car was laid up for like months without a run but then if the car was flat they probably wouldn’t steal it anyway.
Id mobile for the SIM card. I tried pay as you go but it doesn’t work properly.
As soon as it’s home it hooks itself onto my WiFi and that saves data usage and you set a geo fence anywhere you park for a notification the car has left.

Ahhh gotcha. So an iPhone (1?) Is hardwired to the car? Sounds good

Disklok, keys upstairs and decent anti snap locks on house and house alarm that works most thefts that enter the house for keys are snap back door locks quiet in and out take keys and car.
Most don't want noise or confrontation easy in and out.

Trackers are s**t imo I would never want it back anyway.

Had my 172 stolen from outside the mrs work never wanted it back.
Never had disklok fitted would still have it if I had fitted disklok lock convinced of that.

Ref the trackers halfords do a decent cheap one for about 45 quid I think with no subscription.

This is it supposed to be ok.

Tracker is the very final step in the security armoury. It’s only used once the car is actually stolen or if you leave it for a service you can monitor it etc. For £3.99 a month why not use it if you’ve a old phone.

As above lock upgrades and deterrents are proven to work well. It’s all about layering your security to slow and inconvenience the thief.
Auto watch ghost works well but expect to be dragged out of your bed if they really want the code.

Cheers mate. Yeah since the theft I've got anti snaps fitted, yale intruder alarm front and rear sensors, ring2 doorbell, rear camera with phone alerts and a disklok.

A cobra immobiliser seems a cheap a d effective addition aswell?

Also the replacement car i have is a Renault Twingo so shouldn't be too much of a target!?

Just find a constant 12v source and tap into it with a usb charger and put the iPhone into it.
Really easy to do.
Just make sure it’s well hidden and not easily accessible.
I’ll let you decide where to hide it.

Sounds like you have it covered there mate tbh I wouldn't worry unless you have something REALLY desirable they will just go for the easier target plenty of choice for them these days.

Use the 1a socket and it’s fused if needed. Just make sure it’s on a 12v constant live feed.

It can be anywhere in the car. The deeper the better.

Use these to save hacking up your car loom. Then you’ve a full tracker for £12

Don't think this twingo is that sophisticated ha

It is that's how my 172 was taken I reckon 50 quid immobiliser bypass off net is all they need for any car plug into obd and away they go days of hot wiring a car are long gone

Ah so that really renders a cobra immobiliser useless too?

  Clio 182
They are very good yes, but layer it up with decent house locks and security lights etc. It’s not impossible to steal by any means but harder than one without these features.
Thief’s want it easy and fast unless it’s a rare car then they have no option than to tackle what’s infront of them.

Yeah car is parked right by front door with ring2 motion sensors and a pir light. Disklok and facing the house with steering lock on and wheels full lock. And its a Renault Twingo. Surely ive lowered the odds drastically. Might also get the gearstick lock

Considered a ghost immobiliser?

We’ve got one on the JCW, just another layer of security along with the disc lock but does give some peace of mind even with the keys the car isn’t going anywhere unless they decide to tow it away!

Get an intruder light. I've got one down the side of my house near my front door (front door is on the side of the house for all you smart arses) and whenever you walk underneath it it's basically like a police helicopter has lit you up🤣

Doesn't affect any neighbours as I've positioned it so it only lights my drive up but it puts people off. Even takeaway drivers look a bit weirded out when they knock on the door and immediately get illuminated in bright white light🤣

I remember back in day people wrapping chains round the brake pedal and steering wheel 😂
kill switch is the best option only you and the installer know where it is.
activated and de-activated via remote.
That would be the easiest option and keep the kill remote separate.
I've saw them fitted to kids quads etc..
👍
Fuel pump live! 🙄😉

Out of interest, how did they get into the house?

I think deterants are the best way but I’m very much of the opinion they can have it if they come into the house, it’s all insured.

All good suggestions, cheers.

Car's pressed right up to the fence and bins, facing the house with a pir light over it and the ring2 camera. Also got a disklok on it and the house is alarmed and has motion cameras.

Will look into the ghost.

You have more than enough mate it will be fine just get anti snap locks on the house if not already got them.

Dont need anything else imo
