Changing front wheel bearings

If you've got the right tools (press, bearing puller, ball joint whatsit etc) how much of an arse is it to change the front bearings on a phase 1 172?

Also how much are the berings from Renault?

One of mine is making a loud droning noise and a mate at work has all the gear and has said if I go over one night/weekend we can do it there.

Gives me an excuse to see the engine he's building up for his Saab as well, custom made (by him) inlet system and exhaust manifold (which looks awesome) and a turbo the size of my head.

Its easy with a press. They are very hard to get out of the front hubs as they are slightly tapered and the hubs usually rust quite badly. If its the passenger side make sure you dont let the driveshaft pop out.

Cool, mulling over whether it's one of those jobs that doesn't take a garage long so it's worth just taking it somewhere in the first place. But it would be quite cool to do something myself on the car for a change

You could take the hub off yourself and take it to a back street garage with a new bearing and pay them a tenner to push the old out and new in.

tbh the pushing out is fine, this guy has everything under the sun and would be no problem. It's more the rest of the dis-assembling I'd be worried about :)

Think we're going to have a bash at this, how much for a bearing frmo Renault, anyone know? GSF/Euro car parts ones ok to use?

Not sure on price, but yes the bearings you will get from GSF etc will be fine.
As for the rest of the work, Its not a bad job really mate, just get stuck in :)
