Clio 1.6 16V turbo

  clio 1.6 16V
Hello

I am french, and i am sorry for my approximate english.

I decided to build a k4m turbo, i know that some guys did already a k4m, i just try to show more details about my project.

for the photo)

Next post very soon!

It is just a project to try win power without spending a lot of money, i worked on TCR Renault (research and development) and i know approximately resistance about parts.

Before beginning the project, i did a little study about the k4m and all parts around. The weakness about k4m is the rods. I saw in Renault that GT Turbo's rods and K4M rods are the same. I don't really the limit about GT TURBO rods (any one knows?) but i don't knwo if is it necessary to buy forged rods because i think the torque will not overpass 350Nm.
About the clutch, the limit in Renault is 1.7 times the nominal torque, i will change the clutch with a stronger and for the gearbox i am not very sure what to use, any idea?

I buy for a little price a clio K4M year 2000 with gearbox broken, i buy the exhaust manifold and the downpipe (next post this week for the photo)

At this time the engine is out the car and almost demounted. Next photos this week. the project began in April.

Let's go for photos!

  R5 gtt, R27 F1 team
welcome! nice project you have there!

gtt's have been taken to 250bhp on std rods so that would be possible, maybe even more...

cool, also have a 1.6 turbo 8)

Yes i know you sold me your exhaust manifold and downpipe ;)

Thank you tutuur for information about rods, i think it is not necessary to use forged rods. I think if i can reach 220hp it will be enough.

The engine is good to go out of vehicle, after i begin to unmount the engine and i show you the specific exhaust manifold and downpipe.

Gotboost, what did you use for oil pipe turbo?

At this time the engine is completely unmount, i begin to prepare the rods and head gasket to decrease the compression ratio (calculate for 8.5)

For next post i will show the engine unmount

It's time for photos :

i had a braided hose made
dout the stock conrods can hold more than 230/240hp :dapprove:

For the stock conrods i am not sure.
In Renault i saw when i was in Technocentre that rods work at 60% of elastic limit (approximately). The parameter for the rods is the torque.
The limit is the elastic limit, after the rod begins to have deformation to plastic limit and after the rod breaks. if 150N.m (maximal torque for my K4M) is 60%, the limit is approximately 240N.m.
I remember that you have 222N.m you have no problem, how many kilometers do you do?

I will go on holiday one week, new pics in two weeks ;)

  RS172 Flamer
Can't wait to see the progression. I was going to buy the Plug and Play Turbo kit from GotBoost? so this will be interesting :)

  Clio 1.6, 172, DCI
i run 172hp for half a year, daily car, and now i have more than 200hp, still in progress... lool

I've heard of some people in Super1600 use the DCi rods. Will that help?
