Clio 172/197 forged turbo engine build

it has airfeeds on both sides btw:

iirc he managed a 3,9s 0-60 time with a 220-230 c1j engine :D although on damp asphalt the car tried to kill him

So does mine and its not enough, although I guess his only making half the power probably means less heat generated.

depends what you are doing with it, for drag racing its not an issue as its such a pansy sport from an engine abuse point of view with only 10 seconds of heat anyway, its using it for 20 mins on track that tests them!

can't agree with you more, i'm going to have a big challenge there as i don't want to make holes in the bodywork, try to keep it looking like it hasn't got an engine in the back.

ah well, how boring would life be if there weren't any challenges!

You need airflow, otherwise it will overheat massively, its not a case of being a challenge to do it without any airflow its just a case of it being stupid.

you could try and pick air up from underneath but unless the car is quite high, that wont work either.

just make the rear windows removable and take them out on trackdays, can still look standard on the road there where it wont get as hot anyway.

also space the number plate forwards and put holes behind it, thats a subtle way of getting a small vent although it wont be enough.

already thinking on that kind of solutions. first thing is to get it all welded up and running :)

My cousin brought that car off scoff years ago, scoff an haz at the time built it to what it pretty much looks like there with the 1.7 in it. I always thought it was wrote off not long after me cousin got rid.

Good to see it again. Sorry for the hijack

Why does the torque die off so much?

Because it hits the breathing limit of the turbo/manifold/intercooler combination.

It will only flow around 280bhp of air, and BHP = (LBFT/5252) * rpm

So by definition as revs rise with the power staying the same the torque has to drop off.

If it still made the 310lbft at 7500rpm it would be 450bhp or so, this setup simply cant flow that.

It drives far nicer in the lower gears on the medium boost map (in red on this graph):

And on the low boost map, it feels like driving a very good ITB car:

The high boost is great for pulling out round people in 5th gear though, it gets from 80-120 or so particuarly effortlessly.

PS, because the torque scale doesnt start at zero, it exagerates the drop off, even at 7K it still has 180lbft, so way more than almost any N/A F4R makes.

lol, you should read better! it's a b18ft engine although it's now being replaced for a 20vt

Looks different now I done the following to the rear wheel drive 5 (Sorry for slight Hijack)

I bought it allegedly running but it was incomplete when I picked it up so unable to check so I trusted the seller:(, when I finally got it all together first turn over the 1.7 volvo engine was fecked oil pissing out of the manifold. So I couldn't be arsed to fix the crappy Volvo engine and ditched it and luckily I had a friend whom had a modified golf that was for sale so I bought it and used it as the donor, the engine was a mix of AGU head from the golf and a BAM bottom end from an audi s3 but with a ko3s turbo which was off a mk1 TT, I was also using Adaptronic e420c standalone

sorry to post a question here about other car than the Forged Clio, but looking at the door panel of the R5GT, I was wondering what kind of work was done there... it's original like that, or you made some changes James5_GTT?

thanks!

No problem with the off topic post mate. My Clio isn't really worth posting about at the moment. It's just been dumped in one of the garages since we moved and I've not had time to touch it.

Artorius looks like a standard 5gtt door card but re covered with the speaker grille removed. The top part looks recovered also as I think that was bare plastic and the lower pocket removed
