Clio cup packed 182 v Mini one

My mates mrs has had a Mini one with 17"s, he was saying the handling is spot on.

He has been passenger in my car a couple of times (through some twisty roads), he couldn't believe the handling on mine.

This morning he said that he took the mini out last night and the handling was on par with mine???

I just went hmmmmmmmm. Didn't want to start an argument. he he

Lets not be rude, the binis do handle well.

A one and a CSW still share the same basic components.

The only thing i cant stand is people refering to them as Minis. They arent. Mini's have an a series and small wheels.

If im serious they dont handle badly but they arent as good as a 172/182. Runflat tyres, weight and 17s dont do them any favours. But the handling and ability to retain their value is about the only good things about the BINI's.

Exactly, plus the shocking build quality (obviously they have employed they guy that builds clios lazy cousin's) And the novelty boot and rear seats that get annoying after 3 days.

Brother In Law has a Cooper S and took me for a spin and I have to say it felt very responsive and very quick, 0-60 is about 7.5 ? He said its definitely faster than my Cup.

Well last night we went for a spin to Brecon and back, needless to say he eat his words !

Drive a mini before saying they are sh1te!! Cooper S is a very good car, and once depreciation (or lack of it on a mini) is taken into account they are a better ownership prospect than a 182.

Not as much fun and slower than the 182 though, hence why i bought one

A mini one is a great car to have low speed fun in, just make sure its the girlfriends not yours lol

My parents Bini One handles superbly on its 15's. Its spot on. I can see why he says it handles better than yours. However we all know that the 182 has double the horsepower. Handling and speed are different issues.

Fisher price's solvakian sister company made the interiors on them.

Unless you are gay, a middle aged woman or a young girl you wouldnt want to be seen in one (IMO)

Well overpriced and unless you spend ££££s you'll have a Pov spec car. I worked out to get a cooper s to 182 spec you'd have to pay about £18k then need a further 4.5k for the JCW pack to try and get it to perform as well.

boot you can just about fit a packet of condoms and a can of coke in

crashy runflat tyres on some models give a horrible ride

steering column rubs against your feet (maybe that one only effects size12 + though)

steering too heavily assisted

gearshift notchy



Build quality issues aplenty:

Gearshift cables were dodgy

Seat frames creaked and failed

underbonnet insulation used to sag and burn

OBD (general body control units) used to fill with water, this was initially remedied with a teflon sack and some silicon seal then when that didnt work a plastic cap and silicon seal(bodging c*nts) If it did fill with water you'd suffer CL faults alarm faults and general failures of anything in the cabin that was electrical.

Shells were often not bodysealed on seams at all or with the correct(fully hardening or part hardening) sealant resulting in more leeks than a welsh national dish.

scuttle grills were part foam that used to fall apart

Cooper s' had a poxy little fan below the electric PAS motor in a vain attempt to cool it down, this due to its position and lack of guard used to get broken and fail resulting in an overheating PAS pump and loss of A/C followed by engine overheating and if really unlucky small underbonnet fire.

Gearbox bearings used to fail.

Wheelbearings used to fail.

Thats just the recalls and faults i can remember and i havnt worked there for 2years so no doubt theres more and ones ive forgotten.

Handling and speed are different issues

As are grip and handling...so many seem unable to grasp that though.

I found the One I had a thrash in superb...not as much grip, a little more weight, a LOT less power...but it handled superbly.
