Hey, this is my first post!....

The car in question is a standard Clio 1.2 Authentique

These are my current plan:
Headunit:

How hard is it for an amature to fit all this? could someone post a guide?
Any alternative ideas?

Thanks, James

Hey mate welcome to teh site. looks liek a good plan, like the lack of 6x9s! Maybe spend a bit more on the headunit if possible though, even consider 2nd hand.

Its all fairly straight forward case of putting new connecters on the wiring at the speakers and sliding the head unit in

Head Unit isnt great, there are lots now with MP3 and even USB conx...If you want a gud unit I would recommend something by JVC, Alpine, baulkpoint. Speakers...JBLs are good, I replaced my standard spkrs with direct replacements from JBL. Basically I have used JBL beofre and u get a nice blance of bass n treble from them, as well as good power/dB levels. I have not replaced the tweeters at the front yet, basically bcoz it means taking the whole dash to bits.
Infact if any1 has any tips on that i wouldnt mind hearing them myself?

Hey, the headunit has bluetooth for my phone, which is quite a desirable feature...
The headunit pumps enough power for the speakers, so i'm guessing i shouldn't need anything more powerful..
This is my first car so i dont need anything too fancy...

Is wireing compenents any harder to coaxels or vice versa?

Cheers, Snubbs

Will my proposed speakers fit without needing any faffing?
They are 5"/13cm

Also how do i tell what the RMS is?
(Details on the co-axials):
  • Frequency response: 40 - 30.000 Hz
  • Sensitivity (1W/1m): 91 dB
  • Maximum Power: 150 Watt
  • Nominal input power: 35 Watt
  • Speaker Size: 157,0 mm
  • Woofer size (cm): 13 cm
  • Woofer material: IMPP Cone Woofer with Butyl Rubber Edge
  • Midrange size (mm): 25,0 mm
  • Midrange material: Dome mid-range with Neodymium magnet
  • Tweeter size (mm): 10,0 mm
Also is it worth using components? It appears they are harder to install...

yes it is worth installing the components, they are harder but this is made up for my superior sound quality achieved.

Also if possible like someone else said spend more on the Headunit if possiblem, maybe one of the cheaper alpine ones, they still sound amazing and look really good. I would also scrap the 6x9s and go for coaxial door speakers or even another set of comps in the rear instead just because they only sound stage everything to the back of your car, look chav and are more likely to make your car a target for thieves.

hope that helps you abit!!!

I think their going crazy mate!

So... what are the complications of fitting components as apposed to co-axial? (this kinda thing has never been explained...)

As i said, i wanted bluetooth in the headunit, and bought the aldi one today, it looks pretty top! neat, with a aluminium finish... I'm fitting that tommorrow...
o and btw, how can you ensure your headunit does not blow the speakers? as the co-axials i have chosen are 5watts short of the headunit...

Cheers, James

They wont blow dont worry about it, unless you run it ful for ages you struggle to damgae much!

The added hassle is fitting the tweeters under the dash, not much harder, just more work!

So does anyone have a guide on how-to remove the dash? Could i not just leave the original tweeters in?
And where do the components connect, are the tweeters linked to the speakers via cable or do speakers and tweeters go to a box?

Also should i tell my insurance company about all this or just keep it 2 me? Is it likely to up my premium?

Cheers, James (The Amature)

Just tried to install new stereo...
Need an aeiral extender kinda thing, so ordered that for £3 on ebay...
I will also need to screw some stuff into my dash to hold the 'caddy' type thing in properly...
All fun!

On a positive note, it works! n the bluetooth is a joy....
