Will be painting it black before it goes on, picking up my wheels and paint from my parents house tomorrow. All hope is not lost after all! :)

I want to fit the powerflex black series rear beam bush but just waiting to hear back from someone about them now.

Well my Dad collected my wheels for me, such a bargain to say they include the centre caps however they're pretty manky. Can they be disassembled and cleaned does anyone know? Looks like the plastic that is faded.

And made a start on removing my megane shifter and modifying it for the new shaft and extension.

Luckily everything came off easily thanks to me copper greasing the balls off everything when I refit stuff.

This is how i'm doing the lift up reverse now, using a 17mm bore bearing shaft collar, fitted an M6 grub screw long enough for two nuts, inbetween those two nuts is going to be my extended wire for the lift up reverse, joined by simply using a cable joiner. More pics of that tomorrow. Can also see my cut out for the pin on the silver shaft - not the neatest of jobs wish I had access to a milling machine.

This is how i've extended the shaft overall, grub screw in the middle and tapped rod. Might have made it a little too big but i'll test it first before I make it shorter.

Pretty happy with it. Ordered another 17mm shaft collar for the lift up reverse bit for your fingers to grip. Will be spraying it black too.

Holy F*ck @dann2707 the cage looks awesome! Need to get mine sorted, i've got the BG 182 on instagram you've made a comment about my harnesses before! :L

Such a shame about the rear wheel! definitely has to be a wagon that! :( You'll get it sorted in no time as always!

Cheers dude! Was this on instagram? I can't remember now!

We're sorting it this weekend and should be taking delivery of some rear beam bushes today (although they haven't arrived yet and i'm getting worried) . @Louis' @Matty1303 and @leeds2592 are coming over to help tomorrow, can't wait to have a car weekend!

Yeah it was pal! Did try to edit my post to say instagram but it wouldn't let me!

Should be getting a cage in the next couple of months to resolve it anyway!

I'm slowly building up parts (mainly polybushes) and I'll have a big car weekend in a couple of weeks

#lestweforgetbarry

So today has been productive as balls and i'm now finally sitting down and relaxing.

I have:

Finished my gearstick pretty much
Removed stub axles from rear beam
Removed the old bushes
Fitted new powerflex black series bushes
Wire brushed the beam
Painted the rear beam
Painted the stub axles

So, the gearstick!

I needed to lengthen the lift up reverse cable so I'm using an adapter that uses a grub screw to hold two cables in, like so!

20160617_164406 by dann2707, on Flickr

Which feeds through the gearstick to the top:

27698732726_d3f7ba7e68_b.jpg
20160617_164411 by dann2707, on Flickr

Then I'm using a screw with a nut to clamp the cable, probably going to put some washers on that a later date as at the moment it's purely just the nut. Sturdy as though

I had a change in direction with the angled extension tube for the linkage side of things. Decided to just use a straight bar instead and bend the gearstick at the top end.

Really happy with it now, think it looks pretty good to say it costed around £15-£20 overall. Just time and thinking energy that took the most resource I guess.

Here is the lift up reverse in action too.

Now on with the rear beam

This is how I started

27635176542_cc026e1c59_b.jpg
20160617_203236 by dann2707, on Flickr

Got the old bushes out. Thanks to advice from @JP83 and @optical I drilled holes in the rubber bush, smashed out the metal insert, then hack sawed a line down the outershell then hit that out with a hammer.

The new outer shells went in ridiculously easy as I put them in the freezer for a few hours, simply slid in and required a little tap from the hammer

I enjoyed the last part the best, I particularly like the furthest away goat in the bottom pic as I want to grab a hold of its ears and rev them like a motorbike :)

Good work mate, could you do me one of those gear sticks please? My shaft is small and floppy and I dont have the balls :(

Hahaha, I wish I had the facilities to make them properly. This was just a one off as bit of a project.

Cheers though dude!

So today me and @Louis' tackled the rear beam. All went really well, bolts removed nicely.

If I can give any advice, if people are removing the rear beam or fitting rear beam bushes - LOWER THE FUEL TANK. Don't do what me and @Bear Head did when we fitted his arb and remove those 6 bolts for the rear beam carrier.

The fuel tank is held on by 4 13mm bolts that come off so easy and the fuel tank simply lowers allowing you to get the rear beam bolt out. So much easier.

Anyway, we cracked on removing the old beam

Now its all on but will get to the "problem" later on this post.

We then had enough time to fit the gearstick. Genuinely can't believe how it worked perfectly first time. Simply bolted in and every gear selects, reverse selects well too. Excuse the dirty car. My only gripe is that it's not angled enough towards me I don't think - as much as I'd like anyway. So I might remove it after a bit and bend it more. See how I get on.

Quick vid showing it.

Now the problem. The right wheel sticks out a bit more than the left! It's only by about 1mm but we both noticed it. Quite annoying.

Swapped the wheels over and its still there so its not the wheels. Used the same stub axles as the one that was provided with the new beam. Stub axle spacers the same. The rear beam lined up perfectly with the carrier holes so don't think that's bent.

The ONLY thing that is different from left to right is I used the new beams disc on the right. And my old one on the left. Would a mismatched disc really have that different tolerances? Pics below. Hard to get pics of it.

Great work. I wouldn't worry about 1 mm! Lol.
My car was out on rear by around 5mm. I questioned it and read into it and there's often a discrepancy on the rear beam. Tony Hunter told me his was around 10mm out.

Car is looking great mate, glad it's all sorted now. Can't believe you've had to go through all that though, just from hitting a pothole [emoji6]

Jesus that's quite bad haha! It's just a niggle in the back of my mind. It also looks like it's gonna scrub but im about to go for a drive soon to see what it's like.

My rear wheels are like that Dan.

But as Elton John once said, "if you aint scrubbin', you aint dubbin'"

I measured them to be ET25 after seeing them like that not 35 as the seller told me! My current ones were ET40 so that's a 15mm difference on either side

So looks like my stub axle spacers had to come off, which I did. Also used that time to check to see why the right is sticking out more. I noticed this and thought it might have been pushing the wheel out. So sanded it all flat and smooth.

Well after removing the spacers and the car not catching I can write about how it drives. I feel it's sometimes very easy to fit uprated bushes and kinda forget about them and not give any feedback. Well after giving it a hoon with the black rear beam bushes it feels incredible, it just feels way more responsive and twitchy but not as in unstable. Twitchy as in more direct with the steering wheel. The best way I can describe it is if you were driving along and turn the steering wheel it almost feels like there is a lag of when the car turns and almost feels like its swaying a bit well from fitting these its a lot more flat - especially when going around corners at speed. Didn't it chance to give it heroic beans as it was raining. But its put a bigger smile on my face.

The gearstick also feels brilliant, as I raised it 50mm from the already lengthened scenic shifter its much closer to the steering wheel allowing for a shorter movement to the stick. Driving with it feels a lot better with it being ever so slightly shorter shift, 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th feels great when accelerating. I'm so happy with it. Said to Ethan earlier I don't think i'm going to bother with the lift up reverse collar infact as it looks much cleaner. It lifts up easy enough. I do need to fettle with it a bit though as I want it angled even more to me.

I'm going to set up my dashcam on my cage and have it permanently there so I can get some driving footage with it.

Busy busy tonight and it's finally there. I wasn't fully happy with the angle and I could have lived with it but as you know it's me and it's gotta be right or I get annoyed.
