Bumper is on which can only mean I feel like I'm close...

Fuel line arrived today so I neatly fed that to the return in the sender. All works fine. No lambda control though so it sounds absolutely horrible and obviously there's no exhaust.... Haha

Tomorrow I'll see if I've got time to give it a nice going on with the clay bar etc

Not so much of an issue this time of year Dan, but I would look into an enclosed air box for the filter to keep summer intake temps as low as possible,
something like a ITG maxogen from a Audi TT.

Keep going Dan. It'll be awesome when it's finished and it'll be totally worth all the pain!

Definitely. Got such motivation to get it sorted now. Many inspirations. Wow so nearly ready.

Cheers for that Dave, I'll be sorting something like that luckily there's quite a lot of space in the bay. Where it's positioned now it's directly taking heat from the header tank so it certainly needs work.
Heatsoak isn't a major problem on boosted cars really, that's what the intercooler is for.

You'd be surprised at how much of a difference it makes. Had a similar experience at work last month where the unit that delivers same temp air to the intake was down and power significantly dropped up to a point where it was considered the engine wasn't deemed representative.

It's also why it makes me laugh when people try and do a back to back comparison of engine power going from Dynos to Dynos and on different days.

Doesnt the air get sucked through the turbo anyway which is about a million degrees celsious?

Sorry if thats a load of bollox, its just what i would have thought why heat soak on a turbo car doesnt matter as much.

I think you're right really. Cooler intake air can help a little bit, but better gains are found by improving intercooling. Either better flow of cool air over the intercooler or a bigger intercooler. Water/meth cooling helps too.

Essentially yeah, but the air only goes into the cold side and then straight into the intercooler.

For the power Dan's will be running, the intercooler shouldn't have a problem cooling the intake temps to the ideal temperature tbh.

I don't know if heatsoak is a major problem on boosted cars, but getting the air from outside the engine bay is definately worth putting some thought into. Because of the turbo under the bonnet, the underbonnet temperature is much higher than with a normal aspirated car.

Another day another update.

I had some issues with my fuel needle not displaying correctly as per the below picture:

37770542885_9e55de16be_b.jpg
20171126_144413 by dann2707, on Flickr

I remember going on the road trip and being massively disappointed with the rate the fuel needle was going down compared to my friends in their n/a clios but as it turns out my needle was just way off haha

Sorted that by removing the clocks and taking the needle off and putting it where it should be..
Nice easy fix.

So the past few days has had me re-routing the fuel lines which I never put on here. I've used some black P-clips to route the lines as neatly as possible. The original fuel line clips were too small so didn't allow this fuel line to be clipped in.

I already have an idea of what i'm going to do with the smaller bit and it involves making a heat shield for the turbo as there are loads of bolt holes around it where the original heatshield used to be on the meg engine

Suffice to say I genuinely think it looks f**king ace back there and really makes the engine bay a bit nicer!

I sat in the car feeling pretty accomplished with the work this week knowing that I am 1000000000000000% happier with the new OEM pedal box, servo assisted brakes etc etc which was always on the back of my mind that the pedal box I had in there before just didn't feel that great for a 80/20 road/track car.

Tomorrow if I get time i'll wheel it out of the garage, give it a wash and wheel it back in ready for claying and detailing it in the garage over the period of a few weeks. I want to get it as shiny as it used to be as I was looking through some old photos recently and it used to be crazy clean.

Cheers.

Thank you. Yeah that's pretty much it now, drove it out of the garage today and it feels amazing to be sat in him properly again. So excited. I would 100% never ever do this conversion again. It's just not worth it with it being not plug and play. It's been a fun journey, I've learnt a lot of skills along the way. Made some new friends through it too which is always a plus.

If I was to do it again I would definitely boost it using the Megane bottom end with 6 speed box and clio head and log manifold etc. There's so much more stuff available for it and you don't have to faff around with this exhaust thing what I'm doing atm.

Hind sight is a wonderful thing though, I wouldn't sell it either now. I can just tuck this up away when I want something else and hopefully get a fair bit of money for it further down the line. Not that I'm seeing it as an investment but I can't see it losing me a great deal over time.

Top work as ever mate!

Thank you Jim Bob!! I love your new beast, I bet it's hilarious fun. One day I'll own something like that as like you said, it's all about the experience of it and when you think about it it's just so simple as to what it is = easier maintenence and repairs.

That's one of the best things about it, zero worries about breaking it as it's so simple to fix aslong as it's not structural.

I know you had driveshaft issues so I thought that was all that needed sorting.

Thanks Scott, the whole point why it was off the road was because the gearbox failed so I fitted a new one and whilst it was out I changed the aftermarket non servo pedal box to one from a kangoo which uses a hydraulic clutch so it works with the Megane gearbox.

Then whilst it was off the road I took it upon me to change the fuel set up as you may have heard about the Megane cylinder 1 issue? Essentially as the megs don't run a return rail system the fuel pressure is inadequate when the car is mapped or pushing more power than standard as they're currently an in sender Fpr which is no go really. So now it's return which should prevent thst issue from happening.

Ah, I thought I wasn't going mad!
So you've fixed the gearbox/drive shaft issues and potentially saved the engine from going bang!

Makes perfect sense to sort everything at once while it's off the road and before the nice weather comes.
I hope you have a trouble free year next year with it bud, what power will it make?

Exactly that mate. I just was never 100% sold on the pedal box, not just the pedal feel of the brake but also how I'd mounted it and also the pedal position wasn't comfy at all I felt like everytime I got in the car I was constantly thinking about that and how horrible It was which removed the whole experience of what I've made if that makes sense. And once I get a bee in my bonnet I absolutely have to sort it out which is a good thing I guess!

But as I've now refitted the standard brakes etc, the brake master cylinder gets in the way of the Megane downpipe so this is why I'm requiring a new custom exhaust which is what I'm waiting on after Christmas which is when it should be all sorted.

Cheers for your words dude. It is capable of a happy 300/300 which would be decent in a clio. It felt incredible at 256/300 which is what it made before.

Great work mate. Would a gt28 and Clio downpipe have solved your issue with the master cylinder? I’m toying with doing this myself but I want to get it and plug and play as can be. Save the headaches slightly. Keep it up mate!

I'm not 100% sure on the timescale but i'll pretend it went like this.

Last week I did some claying...

I haven't polished anything yet as I really want to get a DA and do it properly. I can't justify spending all that money on one though.

Great update mate, it's good to see you're back positive and making good progress.

Only point, id try to find a suitable plastic cover for those protruding battery terminals? It just looks a bit easy to accidentally bridge them at point point with those bits sticking out like that.. then you'll need that fire extinguisher!

Awesome work Dan. Glad you kept with it. Make sure you insulate/cover those battery terminals [emoji106]

Thanks mate, thank you for the comment. How is your car coming along?
Forgot about that hat, f**king hell hahahah

Some very lucky person will have found that beast in Belgrave when it decided to leave my hands hahahahaha

Looking great and making inroads now, looking forward to seeing it back at mapping and then you having some fun in it
Cheers dude! Appreciate the comment, exhaust should be done early next year all being well :)

Thanks Rob mate :) yeah I was thinking of getting some rubber bungs or something to go over them, should be easy to source something that's easily removable when the time may come to it. Cheers for the heads up though, it's appreciated.

  A special one.
Nice work Dan, looks good mate.

Re battery, if it was me then I'd look at fitting an Anderson plug set up mate, much safer.
I would hate for anything to happen and all of your hard work go up into flames.

We had them fitted to our race cars and fixed to the inner part of the side sill, all you had to do if you had a flat battery was to open the door and plug the other half in.

I like your battery mod for jumping it. As the battery in my E34 is under the back seat there is a positive terminal under a flap under the bonnet then just use a bolt for the negative. Might have to do what you’ve done as the top mount bolts are tiny to get a good grip on it.
Also a right faff as the bonnet opens the other way and you can’t get a second car nose up to it easy to get around the bonnet.

But not long now until yours is working again. In time for spring and the good weather!

Morning all.

I just wanted to say merry Christmas to everyone who reads and comments on my thread. Really means a lot to have the comments, ideas and suggestions and definitely keeps things going.

This year has been a mad one really for Boris, but we're getting there and ive learnt so much about nearly every aspect of the car - which to me makes it all worth while.

Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a fantastic day.

Cheers, Daniel

Also I did the unthinkable. I bought some detailing goodies.

@Akay kindly lent me his da polisher so my plan is to detail the car this week. Got some megs ultimate compound for tackling the swirls then finishing on the above.

Can't wait to have him looking great again.

I've also sent a message to the v6 spoiler guy on ebay, well a few of them, to see if he could do a group buy deal for maybe 10 of us if people would be interested. Cheers

So i've finally machine polished Boris. Really happy with the results, I only gave it a heavy cut on a medium pad and didn't go around everywhere with the super finishing stuff from mezermemeeme as honestly it bored the absolute tits off me. But the results look good none the less I think.

I need to go over the black trim tomorrow, and put a few coats of wax on too.

I'm not sure what my phone decided to do here but it certainly looks shiny haha. I've restuck the 3/4 plate on the front too as I prefer the look of it.

Headlights look clear again, i've ordered some clear film wrap stuff to go over it so they don't fade again.
