Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

Anyone got ideas on removing a stain from the back of my drivers seat? Will post pics later but tried all the usual household chemicals in the kitchen to no luck.
 
Off the lights I have in the unit nothing beats my twin site lights. I have led head torches, snap on led torches and a ring work led work light. They spot swirls just not as good IMO.
 
so i just gave my xmas list to the parents after they asked for me to make one..... "yeah thats a waxybox, it has a load of cool stuff in like samples and things" "can't you just ask dad to get some wax wholesale" "no, its not the same"

"why do you want this shampoo? isnt it the same as this one?" "no, this one smells better" "*laughs*"

Yea well I like the head touch as it's as the named suggest on your heads so you can move the light about and that to look for swirls and any bits you've missed but suppose the halogen one would be good as you can get a heat off them lol
 
Nothing wrong with keeping the head torch on as you work but as you can't see through the polish you're applying I stick to my section do a pass, check thoroughly, and repeat. Obviously the more light the better so good to get as many on the section as possible :)

Good point, I suppose you don't know where they've been before being boxed up.

Had ordered 15ml C5 from Ultimate Finish but they've run out so they are sending 20ml 22PLE VM1 instead for same price.
 
The sungun original and no.2 work like sunlight and normal halogen light. Much better than LED.

Snap on do a good single beam one. Great light spread.
 
Warm white LEDs are ok but the standard blue s**t really does fail compared to halogen.

I also prefer halogen to my DIY sun gun on some colours.
 
What wax would people recommend for a white car my mate has been using zymol Glasur an has come to the end of his pot he fancied something different I suggested a sealant but he enjoys waxing his car it wouldn't need long durability as he's a regular waxer an price isn't really a problem within reason what's your opinions chaps
 
So so so many, what did he like best about glasur? If he likes applying wax and regularly he wants something that feels special and luxurious to use.
 
gally having a quick read on shield it says suited to cars for harsh conditions this car stays on his drive for a long period of time an is cleaned once a week without fail its more of a ornament lol
 
I'm with Gally but I also loved applying illusion, epic looking wax too! Still haven't tried desire properly but I understand that's even better!
 
It has got very strong sealant properties but overall it's just an awesome wax. So easy to use, looks pretty near enough BOS and will bead and sheet water.

In saying that if he just loves to wax all the time and he wants it to feel special just buy Carbon. Money no object non durable wax? Swisswax Best Of Show. The oils will wash away on a daily but show cars or garage queens, BOS is lovely.

He'll love Swisswax ease of use if he's used a pot of Glasur. It's old school beauty.

If I had proper mobey i'd have a pot of Vintage. ;) Oh and you have others like Lusso Oro that imo is one of the most underrated waxes ever made.

Ant no way could I spend money on Illusion knowing for a few quid more I could own a boutique wax. I just can't look past the packaging.

I think he should come away from swissvax as he's already had glasur tbh, BoS is nice but not worth the money IMO.

You're right the packaging is s**t, doesnt do the wax justice at all! Perfect for the lower waxes in the range though. I think the colour illusion slightly takes away the specialness of it too. They had it for £50 on waxamomo the other week. Gutted I missed it :(
 
I have illusion and like it but I also enjoy waxing my car.
I might try something else next year once I start using the car again.
 
Not worth the money? I'd agree. Shield is by far the pick of the range. Both still expensive. But with expense can come that special feeling that some people want. Especially people who think nothing of £150/£200 on wax.
 
I think youre right it's the packaging that makes It feel that little bit more special, wax is soo bloody good nowadays I'd begrudge spending anymore than £100 on a pot. I'll stick with small sample pots.

Infact that's probably why I don't appreciate swissvax as much I've only ever used it out of a s**tty plastic pot.
 
As true as the packaging is pretty basic for a expensive wax, it really doesn't matter when illusion feels so special when applying and removing with the finish it leaves. IMO it's nicer in that sense than Desire, but Desire holds it water bebaviour and durability a lot longer.

For an alternative to Glasur, try carbon or titanium, both a different texture to Glasur but still feel nice. Raceglaze 55, or 44 if he wants it durable.

But as we all get told over on DW wax adds nothing to the finish so just stick to colli 476

Is it alcantara? Tried any material specific cleaners?

It'll be fabric based on the poster's car details. Try a light interior cleaner, using it on an inconspicuous area first to ensure colourfast...ness. Spray on, lightly aggitate with a brush (shoe polish brushes work well, new ones obviously), then wipe down with a damp microfibre.

Something like AG Interior Cleaner will do the job just fine. Available from Halfrauds.
 
typically an inch / 100ml of foam in the bottom then fill up the bottle with warm water. Bottle is typically 1litre

adjust the dilution knob on top to mid way and give it a go.

The more powerful your pressure washer the thicker the foam, for the cheap little pressure washers typically make the mix a little stronger or wind the dilution knob in to get an equivilant thick foam
