Ive just taken delivery of my Megs PC and after doing as much research as my brain can take on DW (not alot) im looking to settle on the following products:

Im looking at getting 2 polishing and 2 finishing pad (these will fit my backing plate right?) and no cutting pad as according to the chaps at DW they said unless i have some serious paint correction to do the polishing pad will suffice (the 182 has very light swirling and thats it).

I was going to use Auto Glym extra gloss proection but ive been told it doesnt work well with oily polishes (apparently above) so ill leave that one to you guys to recommend please.

Hopefully ill be ordering my autobrite lance by Friday and another washmit with a sonus clay bar and some towels (yes its a very expensive month!) but all this should give me excellent results and some products i can work with.

Id just like your opinions if theres anything i could choose better in terms of combination of product and pads as well as protecting and giving the paint a good shine. I based the products on the hard paint Clios have (according to DW) and they seem to work well according to the results ive seen, im just not 100% certain it will all work together well.

i really would stay away from the Meguiars #80 and #83 for that matter aswell, they are a right pain to work with

id go for the Sonus #1 then #3, usind the Sonus pads aswell

you wont go wrong with the Collinite but ive only ever used 476s which is brilliant, i discovered it long before it got so popular, i pimped it about lol

Ok cheers for the feedback Brun, what is it inparticular that is wrong with the megs?

Also, any links to the sonus and 476s?

This then means i can then use my AG gloss protection unless the sonus has an oily residue?

If you want to use the EGP, use some SRP first, it works lovely by machine on a finishing or polishing pad dependant on what steps you have done before. SRP really comes alive by machine.

Would not avoid #83 and #80 as they will probably work better at this time of year over the Menzerna offerings which hate the cold.

I personally would not do any corrective work unless working in doors or if it was warm enough. If I was though would also use the Menzerna IP if needed, Menzerna Final Finish, followed by SRP and then EGP or Jeffs Acrylic Jett Trigger Sealant and then top with a good carnuba.

In the other extreme I would not bother doing any corrective work if it is too hot either ! If it is that hot polishes play up it is too hot to be doing it and chilling with a beer in the garden is much more appealing.

#83 can be funny if it is too warm (not a big fan tbh Poorboys SSR 2,5 for me on colder days if the Menz ain't working), never had any issues with #80 though even on warm days, work time is still long.

I was planning on doing the work outside and that was funnily enough one of my concerns, whether it would be too cold for the product to be effective. I cant however see it being a problem finding somewhere to do the work indoors.

If the SRP is effective as you say then im more than happy to use it.

So you recommend Menz > Menz FF > SRP > EGP > Carnuba?

May i ask why i would need to use the SRP after the Menz seeing as though all the corrective work should of been done with the Menz (Or should the Menz be used with a polishing pad and the Menz FF, SRP, EGP all be applied with a finishing pad)? Also would the above pads work well with these products?

Im hoping that makes sense.

The SRP would be purely to leave a perfect base for the EGP to bond, they are designed to work together, and by using the SRP the EGP will yield best results. After using the Menz the SRP will be fine on a finishing pad as it won't be used for corrective purpose. I tend to use EGP by hand.

In most cases you may need to use IP with a light cut pad by PC, if so I follow that up with FF on a polishing pad, and then SRP with the finishing.

Cold weather and extremely hot weather can make some products a b**ch to would with from time to time. The only machine polishes I have not had any problems with in either extremes is the Poorboys SSR range.

Always try it with polishing pad first though only step up to a cutting pad if you really need too. I tend to use it lots with the 5 inch Menzerna Polishing pad, as this edges toward a light cut pad and is quite effective. Cutting pads proper I use the Sonus SFX one.

I have both lol!

The PO91L is the origional formula has a shorter work time and is ideal for colder days when the newer PO85RD 3.02's long work time may have you there for ages getting it to break down properly.

The PO85RD 3.02 will produce better results without the risk of dusting, it was formulated for newer harder clearcoat finishes. Will be the swine to use at this time of year in the cold though.

I see your point. Ok, about to order all my bits now but the menz polishing pad is 5" and im sure the backing plate for my polisher is 6" so im going to get these:

Decided against the collinite as ive used this wax before on my Saxo and i was more than happy with it and i dont mind waxing every other week which seems to be the main benefit of the collinite.
