Dildos vs. Mouse 2011

I spent some time playing Black Ops on a mate's PS3 last night and was very surprised to find that the controls were pretty f**king good. I'm a die-hard K&M shooter, so this was a shock, especially considering we all know that the PS3 pad is s**t.

The continued theme, however, was that console shooting offers NOTHING like the level of immersion that a PC can. Ignoring screen size, you're just too far away to feel part of the action. The resolution is too low, and the visuals in general are very 2003.

That said, no one can argue that these machines offer amazing value for money.

I think your getting soft in your old age Roy.

Once upon a time you wouldn't even speak of such things without major disgust.

LOL. True. The biggest let down is the immersion. I played about 6ft away from a 46" plasma, and I felt detached. Playing in high detail a few inches from your face at 26" is way more immersive. You feel like you're there, the point of FPS, whereas on the sofa you feel like you're looking at a TV.

My main point is that at least the dildo controls in this game seem VERY well designed.

Yeah, on a monitor is takes your whole field of view. It's much higher res so you can sit so close.

We had a gaming session last night. 32" and probably sat 5/6ft from it but its far more the social aspect than the immersion really. I never game by myself anymore.

I agree, I played the Killzone 3 demo and it just doesn't feel right at all.

Agree console FPS games are shite, you NEED a keyboard and mouse for starters :)

They are s**t, but the whole point of my thread is to express my realisation that dildos do not HAVE to be rubbish. I enjoyed it a lot.

That said, I can't wait to get the game on Steam and play it like a man.

I'm the same, always been a pc gamer but bought a ps3 recently for a few things and whlist I wouldn't go and buy an fps on it I did play the Killzone 3 demo and it was pretty good.

We've got the Move stuff for ps3 and found that quite good fun to use as the controller, moving the wandy thing around to aim was a lot easier than using the analogue sticks.

That's it, I'm off out to spend £2k on a decent PC that will allow me to sit on my own up close to a monitor and shoot some bad guys.

These consoles which have offered me thousands of hours of gaming time can go to hell now.

Maybe it was childish, but even so, you have to spend a hell of a lot of money to enjoy these games you refer to. I had a gaming PC a few years back, and although it was great, it was out of date and pointless after about a year, so the need to keep upgrading annoys. The good thing about consoles is that the games are designed for the spec of the machine and you never have to update your system to cater for them. Ok, they won't ever be near the potential of a high spec PC or Mac, but the costs are minimal in comparison.

However, I do have to admit that I have never tried a keyboard and mouse combination for a FPS, so my opinion is pretty much null and void. Apologies.
