Got back from the dealers a bit ago. To answer a few questions, yes a deposit was taken and an order document signed. Legal have found a couple of possible clauses to exploit, all based round your friend and mine "reasonableness" (yes it is a real word!)
I was advised by the dealer that they would call the next day if there was any issue sourcing the car, and despite follow up calls, nothing came back until nearly a week later. By this point, as there was "no problem" I had confirmed the loan go-ahead, and my other half had bought the plate. The issue is that there was a serious delay in advising me they couldnt get the car.
Anyway, I have acquired the contact details of the regional dealer support manager at Renault, and have got him on the case badgering. There is an outside chance he will be able to pressure a dealership which has a car getting dusty into releasing it, but failing that, I'll need to do the deal again. The resulting issue is that I may not be able to bargain as hard, although sales on these last few are slowing down quite a lot, and most places are pitching how NCAP 5 the Mk III is and want to shift Mk II's.
Amazingly, no offer made on a 182 or a Meggy, despite me giving signals for alternative solutions. Either being stoopid or stubborn!
Thanks for all the repsonses people, I'll be checking again in the morning, (and wishing I didn't have such an insane workload this week)
Cheers
