DIY Induction - Oil Breather?

I just put mine next to the header tank. It consists of the tank, a filter and a 90 degree hose joiner.

So the hose from the standard airbox goes on one outlet and then you for a breather to the other one? That's it?! No second pipe?

You hve 2 pipes in that?

With the Mocal tanks you can have both the 'in' and 'out' pipes on the same side.

The breather pipe from back of engine and a 'out' pipe that vents to atmosphere with a small breather filter on.

This was how i use to run a catch can on the 106.

One hose would run from the rocker cover into the catch can, the second hose ran from the catch can to the elbow on my induction kit. My Induction kit elbow had a hole to join the hose to like the Clios standard elbow does.

Because you are looking at replacing the Clios standard elbow for a DIY induction kit you wont need the second hose. You can just put a breather filter on the catch can like Ph1 Tom has in the picture above!

As J says, its to use a remote breather filter rather than it breathing through the lid, the reason being the mrs likes it kept clean and if it breathes out the lid you can get tiny oil vapour marks just under the lid, lol.
 
I think i just took the pipe off, dont really recall it spewing oil everywhere and never noticed any burning smells. do you guys who run catch tanks actually collect any residue in them?

On my old engine yes, a fair bit as it was breathing heavy, I did just run a small breather filter off the inlet but it dropped oil on the manifold, hot manifold plus oil didn't seem like a good combo.

My new engine doesn't breath as heavy so only a small amount collected.

Very minimal on a healthy F4R :)

That black car did 20K miles on that rebuilt engine and there was never any actual liquid really collected during that time, just a tiny bit of discoloration from the slightest amount of vapour.

My old turbo where I was seeing how far I could push the standard old engine (already had the bits for the replacement so just being curious) and was completely ruined on bore seal etc, I was getting 2 litres of oil out of the breather in a single track session!
I made a Cosworth Group A style setup though that seperated the oil and air and put the oil back into the tank.
Funny thing is, even in that state it STILL went like hell!

I don't collect any oil what so ever (touch wood).

Reason behind me putting one on was to get rid of the very poor breather design that k-tec done with the induction pipe. :(

Also read a large post from chip explaining the advantages of not having oil residue going back through the inlet, something to do with they way fuel burns and ron depreciation. Iirc

Nice innovation there.

and martin yeah, i think it would very slightly effect performance, not enough for you to notice mind, although on turbo cars like chip said its more prone to spray oil allover the intercooler/associated pipework.
