dmallett's indecisive clio thread! Monaco ph2 pg1+, Titanium ph1 pg31+, PB ph1 pg43+

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Ok then, not chasing figures but pursuing the tuning route of N/A is pointless.

Im happy to drive a stripped out car on a daily basis, doesnt bother me what so ever. The fact I have a van for work means my car barely moves. The reason for me being bored of the monaco comes down to one simple thing, theres no attachment to it as I didnt put it together and spend endless hours working on it.

At the end of the day Dan its inevitable for me to get bored lol, I always get bored.

Wouldn't agree thats its pointless, just... expensive lol. Every turbo/SC build on here lasts a few months, either goes bang/has loads of problems or the owner sells it on for whatever reason (no offence Danny/Tom ;)), not saying that they aren't awesome, they are, but personally a cammed F4R is a good balanced between good performance and cost, in my case an increase across the whole rev range and peek power of 15bhp which cost me under 4 figures. I dont really wanna keep my car but in honesty even though its only on 45k and generally very mint, I would struggle to get 2.5k for it, what other decent cars could I get for that in the same condition as mine with good mileage? f**k all lol. Plus with mine I have the piece of mind that all fluids/brakes/tyres/suspension etc are all new and good.

Kinda went abit off track there but nevermind lol :) I hope you have the car ready for the RR day mate! :D

bored to death of mine but due to the mileage etc it's not worth getting shot of, just going to keep using it till it gives up and then weigh it in lol, was going to get a new car in the next month or 2 but will go on the back burner for now and get the missus a car instead

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Dan, you are nuttier than a fruit cake

Good man

I have been told this quite a bit recently! Progress would be quicker if you werent hassling me about removing that air bag lol! ;)

I completely see where you are coming from, but ive been there and done that twice now. IF i want more power again i wont go down the N/A route, plus i like things that get my mind going and with the cammed cars there isnt much i can get involved with doing except handing over the cash.

It will be ready, unless something goes horribly wrong! It might not have a dash/interior in it but that wont matter as long as it runs!

Completely agree! Its like do i cut my losses or do i just keep throwing money in at a pointless attempt to make me love it again lol.

Well whilst my tea was cooking i swapped the front coilovers.

Top coilovers! ;)

Camber set to full on the coilovers becauseracecar, going to get a camber gauge thing and give it a go setting it myself.

Quickly tried to under the two bolts on the discs, fair to say they are stuck tight so out came the blow torch and I couldnt shift them! Then my alarm went off so i went and had my tea. I will tackle the bolts tomorrow!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

agree, there's been so many times where iv been wanting rid but it's just not worth getting rid for me now with as said the moon miles what's on it so il just keep it till the end even if it ends up as just a w.end toy but i know one thing for sure i certainly won't buy another clio as i'm just bored as hell with the car, get the house sorted and then get a little swift sport for the other half and then i'l get myself something else to use as a daily

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Dont know why i keep buying them either lol!

See I own a house, i should be spending money on that rather than messing about with silly clios. One day i will grow up :)

Had another go at the bolts on the discs, nothing is working getting them out! My dad popped round to have a go and removed one with a hammer and chisel so it looks like that is the method for removing them. Probably easier just to remove the hubs from my monaco lol

Me and my neighbor also moved the ph1 tonight, he pushed it whilst i sat in it using a breaker bar through the boss to steer it. Was making some epic rubbing noises guessing thats the williams wheels with lots of camber and no spacers rubbing on the springs up front! Reason for moving it was we decided it was abit cheeky leaving it on someone elses drive, though he doesnt talk to us and looks like an axe murderer we thought it was for the best.

One thing I have realised is that I have my work cut out, decided to concentrate my time getting the ph1 running again.

My drive is

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Spent a solid 2 hours on the car and it will now run again with an air filter and exhaust on it, well in theory it should.

Megane aux set up fitted and polo rad and hoses.
All fluids changed on the car, coolant needs bleeding and i need to check ive wired the fan in properly. Fingers crossed ive put everything back correctly and it will start in the next few days.

Ph1, i need a new grill and no i dont plan on fixing it on with a piece of wire lol

Ph2.

And a photo of 421'd engine, an out siders view of what 30hours of head work looks like! The engine is massive credit to 519!

I was also trying to avoid using aerocatches to hold the bumper on but it is looking inevitable that I will have to as i refuse to buy another bumper!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

I have several bumpers laying in my garden aero catch free? Free to a good home

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

What sort of condition are we talking Danny? Got any grills? :)

if the clips are in one piece/the bolt holes arent broken on the wing part ill head over at some point, still at stanton?

  A shed
Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

I see two sets of aero catches in the pics, are one set available with the Monaco blue bonnet they're fitted to? I need some as my bonnet is dented to buggery where a gorilla tried to shut it. Can px mine so the shell still has a bonnet, and a slam panel ;)

If i dont use the 2nd set I will be selling them, though this bonnet isnt in good condition either! I also have no use for a slam pannel or another bonnet ;)

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

The lower inlet was very well matched to the head by the way, ideally should be kept on that engine, it is too large for a standard port IIRC

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Starting to look like a car again!
null-169.jpg

Found these bad boy door speakers!
null-168.jpg

Jobs left.
Change passenger side discs and pads.
Set ride height and camber
Add harness bars to cage and spray black
Fit seats
Fit harnesses
PH2 Dash conversion/interior swap
Fit steering Wheel
Fit Exhaust
Re locate battery
Make air filter
Bleed/check fluids
Fit braided lines and re bleed brakes
Fit and re wire rear lights
Oh and actually turn it on and make sure it runs ok.
And probably other stuff i have forgotten!

All by the 4th of august for the rolling road day :)

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Well the car runs, it hasnt got an exhaust on so I quickly fired it up and its running fine. Still need to bleed all the fluids through once the exhaust is on.

Ph2 Full plastics are in. Still got to sort the cigarette lighter, hazard switch and heater controls.
null-175.jpg

Drive way update.
null-174.jpg

Everything should be done in the next few days, im not worried about sorting the cage or the braided brake lines for now, they can be done in time.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

I gave in with fitting the bumper. Turned out the loop on the wing for the bolt had snapped off so it wouldn't attach.
Aercocates are ideal for me anyway as i have a tendency to take the front bumper of pretty reguarly.
I also fitted them so well I nearly fainted, spent ages perfecting the cut out with the sander piece on the dremmel.

null-176.jpg

Thoughts on what to do with the black bit on the lower bumper? (not the splitter ;) )

Lol at the bumper being fitted almost correctly, I always surprise myself when I take the time to do a job properly on my car!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Paint it silver maaaaaan

You have it get the silver mixed up, no where sells in the shelf. Thats just hassle! though i might paint it silver lol

As above!

'Cough' needs white willy wheels 'cough'

Been there done the white wheels, infact there my old set and I dislike cleaning cars so white wheels arnet for me.

I know, and the fact I swapped the whole lot and its nearly all working bar a few bits in 3hours I dont know why everyone doesnt do it!

Its a work of art that bumper John, you should take note ;)

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Seats in and ph2 handbreak fitted.

Got a william 4 point harness off ebay, going to mount both harness's to the floor in the rear of the car until I get harness bars on the cage then I will refit the cage and mount them off that. Also stuck the kode wheel in that the car came with as Ive sold my OMP as it was too small really. The kode wheel will stay until I find a suitable replacement, hopefully a sabelt!

Wheel
null-182.jpg

Passenger side. Decided this an ideal seat really as its cheap and not massively heavy, its quite wide and cushioned so ideal for passengers of all shapes and sizes.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Cheers! Its virtually done, just gota put another bolt in the subframes for the seats but cant do that by myself. Then the wheels can go back on and i can jack it up the other way to stick the exhaust on. It is literally done now its just doing stupid little bits and bobs. I even set the camber today, will check the camber once its on the road and i can get it on level ground also.

And Dan in reply to your question in the rolling road meet, this is what i found this morning. A cat statue on my door step and an otter on my car, no idea who/what/why they were there! ha

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Need some help.

Someone with an ebay cage, can you measure from the foot that goes to the tyre well to the bottom of the harness bar please? hopefully my Dad is welding the bars into the cage tomorrow just need to know what height to put them at.

Cheers!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Exhaust on, need a new mount really.

null-188.jpg

Harness bars added and sprayed black
null-186.jpg

Got a few bits coming,
Powerflexed dogbone mount
Solid engine and gearbox mounts
Sabelt steering wheel
Ph2 side strips

Tomorrow im going to get the braided lines fitted and brakes rebled. Cant be bothered with doing them myself again!

Hopefully if all the parts turn up it will be done for Sunday. Then there are only two jobs i want to do, refurb wheels silver and spray bumper back to original colour.

Will update this with a spec list/pictures once im done and hopefully with a healthy rolling road print out. Im so pleased with the turn around and what a r****d like me has achieved so far :)

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Also the bets are on from various people of how long till i sell/break it ha.

Progress.

Solid mounts

Dirty ass sabelt wheel!
null-192.jpg

Cage in, need to sort out a better way to mount the drivers side harness.
null-192.jpg

Air filter, battery relocated to behind passenger seat.
null-189.jpg

Didnt get the brakes bled today, so might do that tomorrow. Also got an engine crane ready to remove the engine and box from the monaco and then its just a case of selling the rest of the parts and ill be done for a while!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Realised i didnt actually post the cage picture.
null-191.jpg

Another job for tomorrow is to fix the knocking on full lock, unsure what it is but feels like a slight resistance just before full lock.
