Does anyone do 12k+ per year in their RS Clio?

  Megane R26
Hey folks

I am looking to change cars in September, ideally to a Clio 172 or 182.

However, I have recently started a new job, which involves a 50 mile commute each day.

I was just wondering if anyone else on here does 12,000 miles year or more? If so, how does the Clio fare?

Lastly, does the RS Clio return decent MPG on a motorway?

I have looked into getting a diesel (namely Fabia vRS, Focus TDCi Sport, Ibiza Cupra TDi), but it seems that the handling on these cars, and 'fun factor' is rather poor....

My other option is getting a train... but I'm not sure I fancy that...

Any related comments welcomed.

Cheers

mine tends to return around 30mpg on the motorways, but that's it being driven pretty hard/fast, its the only way I drive.

I've had 3 Renault Sport Clios over the last 3 years and have done over 18k a year in all of them bar the Trophy and the only reason for that is it's been on and off the road a fair bit!! It's still on 13600 at almost 12 months old.

I did 22500 in my 172 in 15 months and 18500 in my 182 in 12 months. The 182 needed new rear dampers but other than that it was fine.

On the motorway if you drive at 70 you'll see 40mpg, if you drive at silly speeds you'll still see around 30mpg. Spirited road use will see around 26mpg and on track I've got as low as 16mpg.

I do around 42 miles a day in mine.

I do about 16k a year, no problem at all. On my commute I get close to 40mpg, but on motorways this can rise to 45mpg without too much trouble. Easily take that down to 30mpg at the weekends though, it's so flexible.

I can't understand why people are so scared of 50k+ RS Clio's, if anything they are getting better and better by then (some wouldn't even touch them with over 20k). Many Saxo VTS' and things like that are now well beyond 90k and still running fine, sure things are going to get more expensive eventually but nothing to worry about imo.

If I still have mine when it hits 150k I'll be a happy man, at this rate that will be another 7 or 8 years yet though. People like MarkCup are running 172s up and down the country to trackdays, thrashing the hell out of them etc and still using them as daily drivers (his on about 60k iirc)

I do 24k+ a year, costs me a fortune, not a car for high mileage as you find you're constantly either filling it up, getting it serviced or getting it fixed!

Depends how you drive it to what mpg you get, I barely see 33mpg most of the time!

I cover approx 22,000 miles each year in my clio. Motorway driving gets me around 40mpg,only big downside is it really needs a 6th gear for motorway as its gulping petrol down at anything above 80 mph. Reliability has been really good,no worries there.

Must admit though if your a 90mph + man then the mpg is really affected as its in the cam zone ready to pounce.

  No more clio's for me!
I've done 30k in my little frency motor in just under 12 months.

It's been brill, no problems at all! :)

Edit: Thats all motorway miles and 50mile round trip to the local office and agree with above - 6th gear would be nice!!

40k per year in mine.

Fuel's ok, as long as you're sensible with it.

:D

It's a bit noisy for very long runs (100miles plus) IMHO.

Do you think I would be better MPG by going:

a) 10 miles motorway, then 10 miles on 'main' roads

b) 25 mile motorway run (M6, M42 though... which can be BUSY)

Thanks for the posts so far guys.

The MPG seems comparible to my Zetec-S Fiesta

Make the motorway miles really count, and you'll be alright.

Motorways aren't predictable as you said, and the extra five miles will cost you an extra 50pence if you're lucky (more likely to be 70p).

I whip you hands down!!! I've done 17k in 4 months. Averaging 150 miles a day.
Also averaging 33-35 MPG which is pretty good considering i sit at 95PMH the whole way.

18k a year, 360 miles of that a most weeks is motorway

40mpg at 70-75mph on motorway
35mpg combined for me

Had quite afew problems with it to begin with, most of which was done under warranty. Fairly trouble free since though. Which is good as the warranty has since run out.

52 mile commute for me each day plus a good few trips throughout the year so I guess I do about 16k a year.

Just got back from a trip to London, then onto Silverstone, and back, 400 miles, average was 41.1mpg. A normal week is about 33mpg, I try so hard after I've just filled it up to go easy but then I give up and have some fun :)

They're pretty economical if you want them to be. Problem for me is that I find it really uncomfortable after 100 miles, road and engine noise is loud and seats are too small for me being 6ft3. For that reason I'm selling up and getting something more refined for the M'way. I'm thinking an A4 tdi, 320d or something like that. Shame cos I love the 182 so much but with a change of job just wont suit my lifestyle :-(
