Dr Jekyll's Ph1 172 Progress Thread

  Many.
I've tried forcing my set onto it, as shown, but he's not having it! Too scared of upsetting you lot I reckon!

LOL at you lot. Don't worry Barry, the Cup spoiler is the only Ph2 part going on, PERIOD! I shall give the rear adjusters a few turns to lower it and then that's it I think. It's got the looks but its still practical. I shall book it in for alignment for Friday.

Alex got me the radio code and now it all works a treat. Gotta get some classic MJ now ;) My laptop has gone tits up atm so I can't make any CDs so I'll just get a few out of the loft. I'll keep the best of the spice girls up there though!

Ive ordered some Cree bulbs from G172 off here for my foglights and full beams and I've ordered both stickers for the upper grill as mine doesn't have any. I'm not going crazy but I'd like the engine bay tidier. I shall paint parts on the engine when its warmer but I will paint the upper grill satin black before I put the stickers on, as it's gone dull and white in places.

Ph2 lights FTW. Esp. with a cup spoiler !!!

The fact they look fresher and have the regular light (can't think of the word - derp ) on the bottom is a big winner for me.

Ph1 bumper and strips and wheels FTW though. 110%.

Thats true Alex. I'll get looking tonight ;)

I can see the attraction with them Rob and they do look nice but my mind keeps telling me to keep it original. It does suit ph2 lights tbf but I know that as soon as I'd put them on, I'd want to revert back to the originals! I really like the look of the original handles and side strips as it breaks up the car. The body work need attention but that will be done next year. Ph2 bumper can do one tbh!

You just go to the extreme you crazy mofo! Its gonna look EPIC when your done though :D

Also tell this lot that cup spoiler is the only ph2 part aloud ;)

Ph1 should stay ph1 apart from the cup spoiler.

End of.

Problem is that you are following in my foot steps.

I ain't got the balls, funds, time or levels of craziness follow you that much! However I do take note of your car a lot and look at it for inspiration :)

Darn you!!

Mark, any updates as yet? seems weird without a weekly update....

Have you got your present for getting over 160bhp yet? ;)

Im getting withdrawal symptoms from not seeing mark/the ph1 for nearly two weeks!

Also, the present comment is even funnier than you know lol

Haha, no present as of yet! Not much of an update tbh but...

Got the new bulbs off G172 which came promptly. Fitted the full beam ones which look great and are a match against the Cree sidelights.

Unfortunately the foglight ones are too wide to fit in the foglight opening so I've PM'd George on which he's going to send out a replacement :) However when I put on the dipped beams the full beams light appears on the dash even though it's not on. I believe a resistor can fix this :)

New grill stickers came too.

I'm still unsure on what ones to use  I shall have a look at a few more pics to see or look at @Phase1sr thread. I will probably primer and spray the grill satin black and add some lacquer before I put the stickers on.

Ive also had the car aligned although annoyingly I can't find the paperwork to show how out it was. The toe and camber was corrected along with the wheels being balanced. Before it went in to be aligned I set the height to what I was happy with on the fronts as I believe the rear can be adjusted with altering any alignment.

They are set 115mm from bottom of upper ring to abs bracket. The rear adjusters are on and wound up 5mm. I think I will drop the rear adjusters so they are in but on the lowest setting. I've added some Vaseline to the coilover threads and gorilla taped them up to protect the threads a bit better under the rings. I couldn't get to above the rings with taking the coilovers off which I didn't want to do but I'm sure any bit will help.

I also took some pics of the bad parts of the bodywork. This goes to show that it isn't a "mint" car and that these will need to be done at a much later date:

The boot is also rippled and scratched but I forgot to get a picture of that. However I did get some good news! I won these on eBay for 50p each! The 1985 one was my very first tape that I owned and year of birth and I've been meaning to get an old skool tape in the tape deck. There's some proper tunes on these bad boys!

Bulbs look good!

Paint inperfections aren't that noticable in real life, I didn't notice half of it until you pointed it all out to me.

Tapes are terrible though.

Alex, I thought you'd disapprove! Tbh the original HU looks ok and having the stalk control back is nice :)

Jack, they are much better than the cheap eBay jobbies :) How you getting on with the Koni's?

  172 cup
Konis are much better thanks, no more scrubbing! Also stiffened the front abit still bearable but nicer on the smooth bits of road

starting to think I want more drop on the rear also though

Do not paint the black plastic grill.

It will looks s**t and probably come off.

All you need to do if its faded is give it a coat of C4, job done.

The grill is not ment to be shiny, so dont make it so.

Don't go and make the car tacky or cover it in cheap looking red bits. :rasp:

Oh i think PH1 Tom has a new one for sale, or he did have.

You need all of the lighter shade sticker which sits on the left and only the "warning that the cooling fan might come on" sticker on the right (just need to cut the one out)

The boot trim can be bought new from Renault for not alot.

Looking good Mark.

How're you getting on with the car now? I'm trying to decide between ph1 and ph2 at the minute and I change my mind every time I look at pictures of each. Nightmare.

Glad to hear your happy with them :) coilovers or apex springs will be the next step if you want to go lower.

Yeah I know what you mean. I will be buying some c4 but I was unsure on the grill due to it having some white bits on it :S Your probably right tbh. I can't imaging they'll be much difference in price between these and ph2 ones so I may buy a new one eventually but will see how I get on with this one first.

Theres no need for me to get a new boot trim now as I carry my tools and other bits in the boot and it'll only get scratched, but I'm not bothered about that. Its a daily after all.

Thank you for the heads up on the stickers mate :)

You know what mate, I was driving home the other day and I thought to myself that I'm really liking this now. Im gad I've got one. The dash can put some people off but I think it looks pretty cool and I feel cool driving it :) I also like the smallness of the ph1. Problem is you'll have a better chance of finding a decent ph2 than ph1.
