Dr Jekyll's Ph1 172 Progress Thread

I managed to get a pic of the Cree bulbs today and a pic of the scarred boot. I fitted some new pads on the GF's micra then washed it and decided to do mine too. I also lowered the rear adjusters to the lowest setting then half a turn back up. (not sure why as the half turn has probably made no difference!)

I need to get my spare set of calipers painted soon as the rusty look doesn't look to good behind cleaned wheels! I will also order new discs and pads all round aswell as some ATE superblue fluid. Unfortunately tax comes next month so the brakes will have to wait. I was going to go for standard discs and pads for the rear and Brembo HC' and DS2500 for the fronts but now I'm thinking of going the same but changing the DS2500 to OEM Brembo pads.

I got my new bulbs for the foglights coming next week so will get them fitted when they turn up. I may paint the bulkhead mat black and get the grill stickers tommorow if the weather is good and I wake up early enough.

Thanks guys :)

Im really loving it now. Everytime I look at it I think I made the right choice to get one. I will concentrate on the bodywork probably next year. This year I'd like to get/do:

Refresh calipers all round with silver hamerite, with new rebuild kit if its needed.
New discs and pads all round with new fluid change.
Engine bay cleanup and parts sprayed.
Sabelt steering wheel and Momo boss.
New interior grab handles.
C4 all the plastics
Get some new cleaning products as I only have dark stuff.
Investigate the dash clock lights and fan lights as they look a little dim.

Thats all I can think off atm. Obviously if anything needs changing/doing/replacing then these will be done as standard. The bodywork, wheels refurb and search for mint front seats I shall do next year.

Thought you'd approve :)

Alex has just this moment dropped off my set of spare calipers. I've decided to just put these ones on the car and remove my existing set and my current ones are in better condition with less miles on them and will need less prep work. Once these are off the car (with the 2nd hand ones on) and in the process of getting refurbed then I'll order new discs and pads all round. This is the next "big" job on the list but will be next month onwards as I have a a fair bit to pay out this month :(

Haha, no present as of yet!

However I did get some good news! I won these on eBay for 50p each! The 1985 one was my very first tape that I owned and year of birth and I've been meaning to get an old skool tape in the tape deck. There's some proper tunes on these bad boys!

@Timmsy I know you'll approve :cool:

No presents as of yet? the tapes above worry me slightly Mark :rasp:

GAAAYYYYYYY!

Anyway, car is coming along nicely, plans for brakes etc are good. got much else you want to do with it after or just keep it running sweet?

Because he's bad..he's bad...you know it,ya know..mark's bad,he's bad..ya know..woohoo!!...shamore :cool::rasp:

I got them off a company fairly local to me but off there eBay site (Rudie Mods ) The company is shocking but they were the cheapest around and being local-ish I can just pop down there if I'm not happy with them. I paid £357 iirc.

I want no camber on rear to make it look more OEM.

ICE is not really my genre Graham so I'm the wrong person to ask

really but what I do know is that your putting way to much Ph2 parts on your Ph1! :rasp: Cup spoiler and rear lights (even though I'm 50/50 on this) should be all.
Mark how do you rate these? Im considering some as i want some more lows and i think my front shocks on the way out, so perfect time to upgrade.

It's been a while since I updated, mainly for the fact there's not a lot to update on. Pics are in no particular order.

My ashtray was really bugging me just loosely flapping when I lifted it so I posted a thread on here about it and @Fantom swapped he's one with a spring in with me. It's the little things or maybe I'm just odd!

My missus bought me a new ally footrest as mine had a kink in it that bugged me (arrived like it) and I gave it a good going over with autosol.

I also pinched some bits out of @Toms_clio ph1 track car that he was breaking. These included side badges and strips, another ashtray with spring, mist washer jets as mine were crap, engine bulkhead grommets and a rear wiper cover plate. Unfortunately the badges don't fit my strips so I've kept my stickered ones on for the time being. I also had to hacksaw my old wiper motor arm to get the arm off to fit the cover as it was seized on, so I went back round toms and nicked he's motor too! Fitted that with the new cover. I needed a new arm as mine was slack so I ordered on from Renault and a new cover which I didn't realise, so I fitted them both.

I then swapped my seats with some ph1 seats with @AlexW as mine had cuts in the leather from when I shaved them  They aren't perfect but after a clean they'll be better that the old set, I just haven't got round to doing it yet. However while it was jacked up we noticed this:

I'd already replaced the rears with another set as they was knocking and the 2nd set knocked! Managed to pick up a 2nd hand OE set and bolt them on, then I noticed the front was knocking, followed by our discovery. Not good after 2 months and 1k!! I was p*ssed off tbh so after many coversations with the supplier and Vmaxx they've agreed to offer me a full refund or the money I've already paid, discounted on a different coilover kit plus an additional discount. I went up to @TheEvilGiraffe house to pick up he's spare set of Vmaxx as he's changed to BC coilovers and he kindly took me out in the flower. I was thoroughly impressed. The ride was impressive and it handled good too! The build quality looks superb so I've put an order in for a set for my ph1 :) Good convincing skills there Rob ;)

I will be swapping over the old Vmaxx to the borrowed set in the morning so I can return the faulty set. Also I took my top mount covers to work. I put them on the laithe to remove the scoring and then polished them up to remove all markings. I decided to leave a little "nipple" to add a bit of shape to the covers. @MrTom better you think?

I thought they went saggy and knocked on the old 182? Or am I making that up?

The rears did after about a year which I then replaced with standard rears. I ran it on Vmaxx fronts and rear springs/adjusters and standard rear shocks for another year or so untill I swapped to the turinis and got standard suspension all round with cooksports.

They do the job, giving the look and a soft ride but on some roads it's proper bouncy! But I thought I'd buy cheap for now and when in a better position next year but a better set, but I've had nothing but trouble with this current set so "next year" has come round quick! ;)

The BC's are a totally different coilover and you can tell from 2 mins of driving the difference on various road surfaces. I'm looking forward to getting them. If all goes well today then I should have the old faulty set off and Robs vmaxx set on, then I will drop off the faulty set to the company I purchased them from (there fairly local so saves waiting for courier) then on Monday get a final price with all discount included and get ordered. Hopefully all goes well they'll be here mid week as they have 1 in stock but not at the shop. The chap said it'll be a max wait of 2 weeks.

They gave me a list of alternate replacements but I said I wanted adjustable damping and of course I'm still on a limit, money wise. This excluded H&Rs and KW. FK Konigsport was an option but if anything went wrong then they'd have to be sent back to Germany so I ruled them out. This left AP, BC or Gaz. I've heard of AP but not really read any reviews on them so I wearnt to bothered about them. I've been out in cars with both Gaz and recently BC. People slate Gaz but I've never experience them. The cars at Dax all run Gaz and over seen issues, plus there fairly local again. However it was a min of 4 week waiting list as the are made to order. This left me the BC's which was at the top of my list anyway and are available :) I'm hoping I'll have no issues now!

Nah, not into the whole polished engine bay look on clios. I'll keep these like this for now but may get them done in iceberg at a later date. Engine bay does need a cleanup but I'll just be painting it silver, and that'll only be the inlets, cam cover and fuel rail guard probably. Engine bulkhead I'll just spray satin black for now and I might get another battery cover, but in black, but I'll see once all the silver has been done.

Its good to be back at my old work mate. Bit more of a relaxed feel :)

Also your headlight are best done done via a mop as my machine will burn and ruin the plastic. You can do it by hand using various grades of wet & dry and polish or you can get the 3m kit on eBay for £20 which will be a lot easier tbh. It's really rated on here.

Mark the BC's will be epic, teg got them and seems happy enough.

The AP's have no damping adjustment.

Good work :) The engine bay will look much smarter once the inlet and fuel rail guard are painted silver

Glad your getting some proper coilovers for it, heard good stuff about bc the Subaru crowd rate them highly. The car deserves the best. I miss chucking it round corners :(
