Edge on iPhone

Ok so on my 2nd iphone and only just noticed that I don't seem to be recieving Edge (plain blue box - no E).
Is there an additional setting I'm supposed to have configured? GPRS is slow as s**t and doesn't let me use YouTube unless I'm at home connected to LAN..
I live in Chelmsford, Essex which is hardly in the middle of nowhere (25 miles from London) so should I not be able to recieve Edge?? Also couldn't get it in Loughton which is on the edge of London..

Have you just set up the iPhone? If so you need to reset it to get EDGE to start working, well that worked with mine anyway. Hold the turn off button at the top till it comes up with "slide to power off" then slide that. After a few seconds hold the same button till the apple logo appears, let it load and try again. If not then i dunno

It could simply be that you do not have Edge in your area. o2 are currently upgrading the network for this so it may become available to you soon.
