Eletrical Fault!

  Civic Vtec y0
Posting this on behalf of my Girlfriend, she has a 1999 or else 2000 Clio 1.2 16v

Now and again the eletrical fault light comes on and within a few minutes the car stalls even ifs its not stationary, you could just be driving along and the thing wod cut out. At times as well when ur sitting stationary the revs go mental, right down to about 500 and then up to over 3000, just sitting in neuteral with no feet near the pedals lol.

She had left it in 2 Renault but they couldn't find out what the problem was (Although they looked at it for about 10mins and charged us 4 an hours labour!!) They said they would need to put it on the computer thing to see whats wrong but shes a student and can't afford it (There lookin over £350)

Any ideas would be a great help guys

Cheers

the over-revving, is the idle control valve. try spraying some wd40 on it, to loosen it up, dont know about the stalling tho!
