Engine Probs

I have just finished putting in a new engine from a K plate 16v, mine is a M reg. There were a few differences between the two but other than that the engines ok. My old engine used to have 1 bar pressure on idle when hot and would sit a 100 degrees on normal driving. My new engine has between 0 and 1/2 bar of pressure and the temp sits right near the top of the guage!

I dont wanna blow anuva engine up! The replacement engine has had a new head gasket! I use Valvoline 15/40 Fully Synthetic Oil.

Anyone able to offer any clues of how to get over this problem!

What sort of Oil are you using and is there the correct amount in it?
Is your fan cutting in?
Did you remove airlocks from the cooling sytem and bleed it?
IS the thermostat workign correctly?
Is my spelling awfull
Just a few ideas

Are you using the same pressure and temp senders that came with teh engine or the old ones off your old engine, if not try them, the gauges arent really that accurate.

Alternatively you can get a manual pressure gauge you screw into place instead of the oil sender and just read the pressure taht way to compare against the incar gauge.

If not, try a new pump.

16V engines are kinda hard to bleed properly, you can get into a catch22 with not letting the expansion bottle level drop and letting air in as its bleeding through blah blah.

It should be @80c or normal running temp:

1bar @1000rpm

3bar @3500rpm

i have swapped the sender units and i have put my old oil pump in cos i know that thats a good one! i use fully synthetic 15/40 oil, yeah the thermostat works, i forgot to say its the oil that runs extremely hot, not the water!

Somthing is amiss, if the oil temp is too high. 100 deg C is about right for "normal" driving. I was going to suggest, as Ben did, changing the senders. But since this made no difference, have the oil pressure tested properly, by mechanical means. This should give you an idea of whether the pressure is OK. Hot oil usually indicates increased friction somewhere, which may mean running clearances are reduced such as bearings to crank journals (most common example)

Do note that on high mway speeds, the oil temp rises to about 120 deg C - this is normal.

have changed the oil pressure sender unit aswell, i know this works fine cos it came out of my old engine and the pressure did what it should do in that one until i blew the bloddy thing up.

well, i run 15w50 and when it goes above 100-110C it really thins out, the oil dont really like running that hot and start to degrade..........

Try a thinner base oil with either the same 40 or 50 suffix
