Exhaust fitting - one piece

Maz

I have got a standard 182 exhaust to go back on my car and was wondering if anyone can confirm if the bumper has to be taken off to put this back on ..

When I have had cat back exhausts fitted in the past they have always came in two bits and never had to remove the bumper ..

Is the bumper removel to be able to drop the axel.. been quoated 2 hours labour for this work ..

Any help would be great please :)

2 hours??? lmao. No the bumper stays on and to drop the axle takes about 30 seconds. They shouldnt take more than 30 minutes to swap an exhaust over.

So how do you drop the axel ?

Can anyone give me a guide please ? I dont want to pay £80 for somthing that should only cost £40

Thanks :)

Hang on if the old exhaust is in one piece from cat then you might need to take the back bumper off as when i had my old system removed it was very tight on the back bumper to move the old system over the rear axle with the bend that was in the pipe.

I think £80 is fine for that a garage.

take off the vat and thats £70, which for a garage isnt really gonna get much cheaper to remove and fit a new exhaust as there is no money being made out of the product.

I normally pay for 1 hours labour = £40 :) .. thats what I have paid for the last 3 systems to be fitted ..

I've refitted my standard system in about half an hour, and i'd never done anything with exhausts before, its not as hard as kwik fitters would like to make out, as long as you have some axel stands and drop the back axel down its a pretty straight forward job, can be fiddly getting it on to the mounts, but thats the hardest part..oh yeah and if you do it yourself dont forget the exxhaust paste ;)

^^ no offence there is no chance of fitting her own. took me about 45mins to fit my own 172 system, but then it had a break in it.

but the full length system will be a awkward to fit and could well need two pairs of hands.

Was that a one piece system ?

maz you wont need to take anything off you could evan do it with out dropping the axel, as matt has said getting it back into the mounts can be fiddly. if you told me eairler in the week i would have done it :)

Its only just become available .. was your system in two bits Bif ? this isn't its one piece ..

The exhaust is already at a garage who have quoated me the above and the problem I have is moving it from there to Tweeks as its too big to fit in my car ..

to be honest the best way to do that would be to drop one of the rear mounts off and just aim to hang it on one, and then refit the other one. Only three bolts and saves the messing, with the limited space.

its easier to hang it from the top mounts on the rubber hangers first then you can attach it everywhere else without having to hold it up

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
cut or uncut they both will be fine. takes 30 mins on ramp

take old system off
support the rear beam
drop the two 18mm bolts on the bottom of the rear shock
fit to the rear hangers
clamp at CAT joint.
fit centre section support
bring beam up to shocks
re fit the 18mm bolts

done.

yeah, dont disagree with that, but if yours was anything like mine, the gap between the hangers and the rear bumper at the back was quite tight and this is in one piece.

Like most things on renaults its fiddley and garages cba for a few pennies.

Thanks for all the advice, the main reason for putting the standard system back on was to be able to sell the car. I dont really want to have to pay £80 for fitting when I know I can get it done for less..

Who's quoted you 2hrs? If it's an exhaust centre the chimps in there normally pull the old one off and stuff the new one on in about 10minutes flat.

Its a garage local to the peson I have bought it off not a exhaust centre, the main reason for getting it done there was to have to save the exhaust being moved from there..

Bif what other parts did you say I needed with the system that will have been take off please ?

you need the 2 hanging rubber mounts that have a blue plastic coller inside, also the bolts that screw into the end of each metal bracket, i think there is 3

The idea to put a standard exhaust on was to be able to reduce the asking price for the car .. looks like that aint going to work so I will just have to wait for the improved brand new magnex and sell it with that on.

Thanks for all the help :)

it was indeed, if you cant get your axel stands high enough then you can remove the rear wheels to allow the axel to drop down far enough to fit it through comfortably
