I started a fresh play through after the update, up to level 9 after about 14 hours, zero issues/glitches/crashes so far (Series X).

To be far I'd not played 4 that much previously, compared to a lot of people, but it's much easier restarting when you know your way round...

Also seems that even performance mode is 60fps on Series X, people initially thought it was broken, but Bethesda made a statement over the weekend to clarify.

Committing time is the issue for games like this, I only get on my XBox later at night once the wife & kids are in bed, so I have lots of unfinished games LOL.

Although it's very easy to lose track of time and suddenly it's 1am on a school night, oops!

I am a bit like this now, it's been a good while, probably the last of us 2 since a game has made me want to go home from work and jump straight on it, but Starfield has given me that feeling again, i know when i start Fallout 4 again it will be exactly the same, i just plod around and lose track of time.

Been playing my new playthrough for 10hours so far, level 11, only died once up to now. Came across some brahman and then a legendary rad scorpion appeared, I had very little chance against it. Managed to knock enough life off it to make it evolve. It then stung me and I couldn't heal quick enough. Thank god I saved 30 seconds before encountering it, so I could go a different way.

It definitely was broken lol, but they released another update I think on the 13th? Which has fixed it. They also give you the option to select 30/40/60 you can have 40 if your TV supports 120hz. The fact that PS5/XBSX can't hit 60 solid on a 9 year old game shows how s**t the game engine is optimised.


Anyone on PC should have avoided the next gen update where possible. This should have been a console update tbh.

The new settings are great, runs niiiiice at 60fps / visuals on my Series X, on an LG OLED, no stuttering and no obvious frame rate drops even in built up areas.

Starfield got the same options today, but that has the occasional stutter at 60fps / visuals, so I have dropped it to 60fps / performance.

Seems locked at 71fps on my PC at 1440 - regardless of what happens onscreen.

I assume that there may have been some mods previously that allowed it to go higher?

Speaking of frame-rate - I had a strange one on PGA 2K23 recently. It sits at 144fps throughout, but despite that, appeared stuttery on occasion when following the ball's path through the air.

Looked online and number of people said to halve the screen refresh rate down to 72hz in the settings. Tried it - and immediately super-smooth playback. Weird.

Holy s**t, I'm venturing where I've never ventured so early in the game and there's a couple of bits I've never done with regards to some of the other settlements nothing special but they're new to me after 8 years.

I fired this up not long ago and for some reason when I first played it I don't remember it being so hard to find fusion cores. Pretty sure I'm missing something from first play.

I also found some junk yard very early on I don't recall ever seeing before. Right on the edge of the map not far from Sanctuary

Oh I have vivid memories of that junk yard as I was trapped in the building after activating the Sentry Bot foolishly and only having a 10mm pistol and 20 rounds. Theres a Fat Man and a Mini Nuke there, great early game items. Also if you set the sentry bot to self destruct there's a fusion core in it. I currently have 29 fusion cores, either accidentally come across them or been rewarded with them via side quests or scrounger perk.

Ah, that was part of the 'Fanatec Delivery DLC'.

It literally removed availability of all items within the game to zero.

Now at level 21 or 22 on my fresh play through, I may have accidentally started the Automatron DLC, so now having to follow that through as I am getting robots attacking my settlements! 🤖

On the plus side I have upgraded Ada, so she can unlock pretty much anything and carry all my cr@p, win. 🔑

I have the GOTY version, you don't get access to the DLC with the normal/base version of the game, you still need to pay for it.

But unlike Far Harbour or Nuka World, which have their own maps, Automatron takes place on the main Commonwealth map, so I started it by accident LOL.

Ventured around the centre of the map around university point last night, you know when you go somewhere and think "f**k, I'm not equipped for around here". I forgot how many enemies there are around there. If it's not Bloodbugs, Raiders, Feral Ghouls and Gunners, its Deathclaws and Sentry Bots. Died 3 times, one of which I was shot by a piggy bank and left as a stump.

i used to have a rule of thumb, if i plug something in the head and it's doesn't lose at least half it's energy f**k off somewhere else and come back when i have grown a set of balls... (have better guns).....

Anybody else have both the Hellfire and X-02 power armour yet? Just upgraded my X-02 to full tesla with devils inferno mod, its absolutely biblical. I just left it in Sanctuary when I did the above jaunt.

I've also acquired a couple of new weapons, saw blade launcher, baseball launcher, Chinese grenade launcher, alongside the piggy bank launcher (fat man but with biggy banks). Absolutely epic weapons, just not enough ammo about.

Level 35 now, took the Castle single handedly last night. Managed to get a Radium Rifle from a Legendary Mirelurk last night, which has made me quite overpowered.

I've got distracted by side bullshit and haven't touched the story. I think because I've just concentrated on exploring and it's been that long since I've played it I feel like I'm playing it for the first time in some parts of the map.

This is what i am hoping for, been years since i played it, so i am hoping i don't remember large parts of it so it feels like a new play through, as for getting side tracked, to me that is exactly why the game is so good, you leave your house to do a mission and come back 4 hours later having not been anywhere near the mission you set out to do...lol.

Started making my way to the airport from the castle last night, took 30mins to get what looked like 2 minutes away. Then debating on whether to actually kick off with mutants or raiders on route.

I love this game, it has it's issues but I look past it all.
