Ferrodo Pads on 172, hard to fit!?!?

Hi,

Fitted some Ferrodo pads to my 172 on Sunday. Had a bit of bother getting them in the caliper so ended up removing the metal clip thing on the bottom of both calipers so they'd go in. My mate said this is just an anti-rattle device, is it going to cause me problems?? A good day apart from discovering my car had been keyed, I hate those c***s!! (sorry about the language!!)

Mike.

Thanks for that, I have read it. It doesn't refer to fitting Ferrodo pads unfortunately though, or did I miss that bit, nor does it say anything about the metal clip, or did I miss that bit too? The discs and pads are fitted, I was just wondering about that clip.

Looks like you did it Al-Fredo style.... he's removed the clips on his car afaik.

I just took an angle grinder, and removed 1mm off the backing plates... nice & snug fit now!

It'll be fine, keep an eye on them while bedding-in just in case.

its fine, they are just to stop them rattling, I had to bugger about with them when fitting my discs and pads (mine are still in place though)

Thought about the angle grinder idea but I don't have one and would have cost as much to have them fitted to go and buy one. I didn't think it'd be a life threatening thing to remove the clips, best to check though - cheers!!

Mike, are you referring to the performance brake pads rather than the bog standard Ferodo ones? If you are then I was going to fit them too but don't really fancy leaving things off the brakes that some clever wotsit had decided to fit. I'm probably going for an alternative make which fits, springs and all! I'll be interested though to see how you get on. Maybe put up another thread when the pads are bedded, I'll be really interested to know if they are much better than the std pads.

Cheers, Rob669

Yes mate they are the DS2500 pads (or something like that!!!). Just removed the bottom clip on both sides, really doesn't look like it does much mate so I wouldn't worry, I've not had any probs so far and I've done about 60 miles since. You could always angle grind a tiny bit off the backing plate as Omar said, can't reallt tell how they perform yet as I'm taking it easy for a bit!
