fiesta st quick??

  Phase 2 172
i raced one at crail 1/4 mile 3 times a couple of years ago now in my £75 mk3 astra with £200 redtop stuck in it and beat it 3 times. Guy wasn't best pleased. Think my best time was 15.35s, Sure i have a video of it somewhere

Yup, well kept up with it and got 'the hazards' whatever that means. But it has cams though!

From experience with my 172 it's when the hazard lights unexpectedly start flashing and cannot be turned off. I think it's predictive hazard detection, part of the ESP. Or a broken switch.

I beat a st in my 172 cup I couldn't leave it as this one was modded but he couldn't take me I was doing well over a ton thou

  Shit little Yaris...
Had one hustle the ST220 both with him infront and behind. 100% nothing in it.

Tracked him down online and ask what had been done to it, and it was breathing mods (Air box and exhaust) and a remap. Says it was horrific on fuel.

Flol, my white one ran 178bhp iirc and was stunning on fuel. The airbox and exhaust definitely improves fuel economy. I was doing 50mpg on the motorway runs. Air filter, full exhaust incl mani and decat.

Get on a track and find out for real the quality of the roads means its never going to be equal.

the new fiesta trounces a 182. The one old isnt too far off, but like most cars in this range you need to ragging them to notice any difference

I once played with a friends standard one in my 197 and I could've ran rings around it. That said, my input doesn't help in this thread as 197s are significantly faster than 182s anyway. But hey ho.

The st is now turboed and I've not had a play yet.

how are they significantly faster?

He only used 1st and 2st gear. Its not really conclusive proof the ST was a faster car overall. He could have quite easily reeled it back in once he got 3rd and 4th. Its non event.

Just to clarify; you made a new Fiesta ST look 'stupid'?

Ok, so the fiesta has more power, and substantially more torque and doesn't weight much more. I've have many 182s and can safely say the ST is quicker.

Unless you are running ITBs/FI? :S
Im a big fan of the new ST but it is not fast unless it has the mountune 215 kit on it. Yeah the fiesta has a bit more power but it weighs a ton. Not that I street race as ive had my years of that but thought I would show up a cocky little t**t that was revving the s**t out of it next to me. That was the point I was getting across as the older ST 150's are Gutless. Im not on itb's but I have 192 BHP which I ran at SRR

The fiesta will feel quicker compared to your previous 182's due to the feel of the turbo power delivery.

I had a play with my mate's 182 when I had my ST150, he made me look like I was driving a 1.2 when we did the traffic light GP!, then when I had my 172, had a blast with my other mates ST150 that had full De-Cat Exhaust system and trusty K&N and there was nothing in it.

This might be more at home on the CS Facebook.

Not heard much about it on here but I think Chip might have something to do with it, although he's obviously very sheepish about it.

If it's turbo charged then no, they have a ton more FT-LB.

A peak torque figure isnt the b-all and end-all of racing, average BHP for the width of a gearchange is actually what matters.

But I see no point in comparing against any standard turbo car which is still on its emissions/insurance friendly map as if you cared about going fast you would just remap it given how much can be gained.

Im also not really into trying to compare cars by racing off the traffic lights against random strangers you think are racing too, doesnt seem a very scientific method TBH.

Trackdays tens to show clios to be reasonably quick cars overall, but Im not interested in how much fun they are than the laptime TBH

So you're saying you'll get a slight neck snap in the new Fiesta ST but the Clio's smooth torque curve will make it feel slower but will be exactly on par?

Thats what happens in a lot of cases with turbo cars, if the turbo isnt holding on at the top end while it might feel dramatic you are at a mechanical disadvantage having to be in a higher gear to keep it near the top of that torque curve.

Ultimately, BHP counts for more than Torque does, but you do still need a decent spread of it relative to the width of the gears.

Cossie versus evo is often like you describe, if talking about a modified escort on standard turbo versus a modified evo 8 for example (both at 400bhp on what I consider to be a "typical" tune for each), the escort has a huge surge of midrange, but then dies off, evo feels slower and less dramatic but isnt, they are the same pace pretty much.
