First Car :D

  a black one
Okay, So i woke up in the morning to this as a bday present :), its got 2 JBL speakers in parcel shelf, 1 in each door, and 2 tweeters on the dash,as well as this i got an alpine stereo which is sexy ;), apart from getting lowered, not sure what else to do, not looking to re-spraying rims as only just got them done, anyone else know of any cheap mods which wont effect insurance? :) cheers guys, also what you think of the car? 45k miles and its a 1.2 16v dynamique.

OK, here's the deal... My advise is to leave it just as it is - no Mods required and get used to driving in general.

You will soon see how magnetic the car is to police, how good of a driver you'll think you are and just how bad others can be.

But for goodness sake - don't be a tarmac chavver!

Completely agree! Wouldn't touch it to be honest, but it's your car and you can make your own mistakes.

v. nice birthday present!

Looks tidy mate! :). Silver visions will be good to start. Just to let you know, you will have to declare the speakers on your insurance! :boring:

Don't waste your money modding it mate, save that cash and put it towards a quicker car in a couple of years or whatever....much more worthwhile!!

Personally I would be a new parcel shelf and loose the 6x9's, or at least hide then with a stealth shelf, other than that looks like a cracking present.

cheers boys, thinking about saving money and buying quicker car like a 172 in a few years, and about the parcel shelf, not sure yet :X :)

Parcel shelf idea is cracking... as a shelf with 6x9's tells a no-gooder that there could be an amp running them, and that amp could also be running a sub... Therefore they'll break in for a look.

Disagree with them lot, make it your own car :)

I wouldn't drive a standard clio round until I can insure a sport.

As for mods, RS grille, colour coding, silver visions are a good start!

Declaring all mods of course to your insurers - and then being incredibly pi**ed at the amount they jack it up.

RS Grille? It ain't an RS.

Colour code? Not going to hurt.

Decent bulbs, Agree - it's harmless.

The best advise I could give you is....

Before you spend any money on modifications, make sure you have:

-Decent tyres, not budget tyres with plenty of tread, get some good tyres on it that have good grip, they could save your no claims bonus if you have to do an emergency stop
-Decent brakes
-Decent wiper blades
-Make sure the car's service schedule is up to date

  Volvo XC60 T8
I would keep it standard and detail the f**k out of it. Will look so much better as a shiney standard tidy car rather than one with a body kit etc. on it :)

in response to you saying about making sure brakes ect are good, my dad sent the car away to renault and they sorted everything out, wheel alignment ect ect. :)

Car as a present ? Lucky you haha !

If that was my car I'd definitely be hiding those 6x9s... I'd make sure it was clean (see detailing section on here) .. sort the tyres/brakes as mentioned above .. then sort the hifi out. Decent stereo (alpine would be my choice for starters but they do some budget stuff, to be avoided IMO) + decent (amped) components in the front, and then the 6x9s in the parcel shelf as they're already there... Sub OR 6x9's as they're sharing the same air in the boot. Also worth modding the cabling in the back so you can pop the parcel shelf out with some bullet connectors it haven't already.

I'm assuming you're <20 so insurance will be hilarious if you mod it. Insurance seems to be utterly hilarious at the moment anyway.

Aside from that .. enjoy it ! They're a decent handling car, albeit a bit slow in 1.2 form, but for a first car it's all you need. My 50hp 1986 micra kept me amused for the first year of my driving life. Not enough power to get in too much trouble, and cheap to run. It's all you need really as most new drivers become a statistic!

Enjoy .. but most importantly keep it between the ditches !

Edit: seen your last post .. don't go to renault for anything service related...! They know nothing (find the 'funniest thing a dealer has told you' thread) but how to rip people off.

lowering it wont make a huge difference. put my insurance up £30 for the year. and it'll look 10x better. im not a fan of the 6x9's but i used to have them so cant really talk.

Silvervisions are silver indicator bulbs that flash orange. gets rid of that orangey look in the front headlights.

other than that looks like a cracking birthday present.

Check out Dawn's ph2 (username magpiev6 - i think)
Thats very clean and tidy, you may be able to get some good ideas from her.

And yeah, i good set of tyres and brake would be a good place to start. Camskill.co.uk do toyo t1r's for like £30 and they're some of the best handling tyres i've ever driven on. Cant fault them.

type aerofoam wipers into ebay, measure yours up. god mine for £4 and they're wicked. :D

cheers for replies boys, what about spraying the brake calipers? a nice red just tidy it up really, dont want to go to extreme mod-wise.

Mate i got an Alpine stereo :) 113bthal or soemthing xD

I have the older version of that stereo, handsfree FTW! Love my stereo.

The car is perfect tbh, maybe a sub for some more bass? Either way it's very tidy and let it stay that way.

yeah mate its quality sounds really good from the jbl's as well, but yeah, it is very tidy atm, you dont think i should lower or spray renaulkt badge on rear and front?

  Listerine & Poledo
The best mods are things like:-

New tyres when the old ones are knackered
new brakes when the old ones have given in
some new oil and filers every year
change the odd part now and again

y'kno, the kind of "subtle" mods that make sence.

Although a stealth shelf to hide the 6x9's away wouldn't be a bad thing

  MK3 GTI golf 16v
stealth shelf defo. as for mods its really up to you, yes its a 1.2, but its your car and modding is fun :) subtle things are best though, no sence throwing loads of cash at it

It's easy to say don't mod it. In hindsight i wish i hadn't modified my first car, proved to be a massive waste of money. But i enjoyed it.

Nice car.

Awesome Birthday present.

As Ali says TBH. I remember the days of Ali, Alan, Immi and me all having our 1.2's and we did some weird stuff to 'em. Ali had lexus lights FFS.

Enjoy the car, but try and keep it subtle.

Here's my 1.2 to give you ideas...

Factory Xenons
Carbon bonnet
172 Aliums
40mm drop & custom exhaust
