fitting piper cams

  FULL FAT 182
i have just won a set of brand new cams and pullys on ebay for 205 quid considering there 615 quid for the whole lot on the web, are they a pig to fit and could i still be able to use the existing cam belt or should i get a new on from piper direct?

cheers
the bhp is slowly growing :)

For the cost of new cambelt and tensioners, get them, why risk new cams on an old belt.

Cambelt change IRO 137 quid by most independent renault specialists. May be worth them doing your cams at the same time. May cost about the same again in labour for cams I guess if doing cambelt too.

hmmm amature my arse mate, i'm fully aware of this but the timing aind hard to do if you have a hole in your ass and a brain in your head! lining 3 marks up and locking the flywheel isnt the most taxing of things!
i'm speaking from experience as 6 months ago i knew f**k all! i have now rebuilt an engine and learnt by asking/doing so its encouragement!

Depends on copmpetence levels, every1 is different.

If you have the luxury to practice on say a spare engine I would say go for it. That's what I am doing as the only way you learn is to do it yourself.

If you lack confidence, don't have the tools or space to do it and can't be without your motor for a while if it goes wrong or takes longer than you thought, then you have to use a mechanic.

And guess cams, cambelt and verniers is not the thing you would want to risk fitting and going wrong due to the expense of failure....

The only problem is, its not as simple as 3 marks, on std cams this it true, but when you go 4 performance cams you want to be looking at fitting new followers, and also it is essential to set up the vernier pulleys correctly, std pulley you can only adjust by a minimum of 1 tooth, on the vernier pulleys you can adjust within that '1 tooth'.

spose it does make it that little bit more work to time up but surely so long as you read what comes with the cams carefully it shouldnt be that hard. alternatively someone near him must have the time to help him out for a bit of cash!

Rich; your a quite right, that is exactly what I would do, I do all the work on my own vehicles!
