Hacksawing my gearstick :(

  Superleggera'd MK3
Hi,

I bought a custom gear nob for my mk3 clio (1st to try it on this model i think) and have hit a hitch. With the new gear knob on, the gaitor doesnt fit now (not long enough). So without sounding too pikey, the easiest idea that comes to mind would be to cut 2 inches of the stick (really dont want to, but seems the easiest solution). Does anyone have any better ideas? Any what are the implications of cutting the stick?

I could try get a longer gaitor but that could be a massive pain in the butt :( or leave it looking pretty industrial lol :/

i could maybe drill the black bolt thing through, so its all the way through.....but im sh*t with drills etc lol

Can you not modify the gear knob so the stick goes further up? Or is it already at the edge anyway?

More hassle than its worth!

Tell me about it! Got to make it look half decent now i've started, its too late to go back.....snapped the white plastic bit off with some vice grips so the old knob isnt going back on :/

So i can quick change in the 1.2 ;)

gonna try drill through the black bolt. If that doesnt work....getting the hacksaw out.

Why don't you just pm Austin182 and ask him to make you a longer gaiter.

Don't cut the gear stick that's crazy. You'll never be able to go back to standard when you come to sell if you need to.

It's not really crazy. Lots of car owners do it. Was like the first mod in a Puma although there was no gaiter issues as it sat much lower anyway.

Pm'd austin and see what he says....hopefully i can spare the gearstick.

Also, i know a lot of saxo users etc cut it down, it seems to be a popular mod around a few other forums. Not something that really interests me.....i just dont want it to look broken lol
