Head Gasket!!!!.GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Please help cos im in a real pickle about what is going on with my Clio. Its a Phase 1 1800 16v with 80000 on the clock, but the head gasket has just gone, has anyone else had their head gasket go on their Clio and if so at what mileage?? The car came with full service history and is in generally good nick so is this a common fault or have I bought a car with a partial liking for Pedigree Chum??

Any help greatfully recieved,

Chuckie

can be due to excesive heat build up maybe due to not properly functioning cooling system.i.e. blocked etc

Not the most common problem Chuckie, seems like youre unlucky...

Might as well get the head ported and polished while youre there and slip some fast road cams in as well.

I had mine go just after Id bought a car with similar mileage.

I was told it was due to a faulty radiator fan (although I’m not totally sure that was all). Mine seriously overheated and warped the head. I had it skimmed but a couple of months later I got another leak of coolant into the cylinders again. This time I got a new lump from a scrappy with about 50k on it. I couldn’t afford to do much else because the previous head repair had cost me so much.

My advice is:

Get it fixed properly by someone who knows what they’re doing (which might cost more but it gives you piece of mind).

Make sure they find out why it failed in the first place and fix that. When you get it running again make sure its not overheating.

Did yours overheat badly?

This is the problem my car didnt over heat, it never smoked oil and it only just started puffing water the day i realised it was atually burnng coolant. it run perfect up to that point.

I hopefully get him back next week, he has been away for nearly three weeks and i miss him quite a bit!!
