head unit for cup

  Embarrassed to say

Really need mp3 capability, loads of cds in the car just gets on my nerves. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy one of the head units that reno sell (sony cdxmp40,m80,m850) from the net (cheaper) and buy the adapter (for the fingertip controls - part number 77 11 219 877) from reno separately? And is it easy to fit (or can reno only fit it so as to not invalidate the warranty)?

I fitted an MP70 (now updated with MP80) to my Cup last October when it was 2 weeks old.

The sound system warranty is invalidated (which is fine because I replaced all speakers too).

The adapter I used is made by connects2 (http://www.connects2.co.ukhttp://www.connects2.co.uk).

Check the "Read before posting" thread of this section for more details on the screen/stalk adapter.

the temp and time and track number is still displayed with the connects2, along with radio station info etc. The track numbers are a bit funny when youre playing MP3 tracks though.

I dont have a CD changer so cant comment on that - anyone else?

So what about buying the headunit from the net (cdxm850 renault advertise at 550 quid on net its like 250) and getting renault to fit it so its compatible with the stalk/display and the warranty remains in tac. Would that cost loads?
