How Hard is it to sell a clio Privately ?

  Shed.
So in about 6-7 months ill be selling my Wonder Bug. Hopefully ill pull about £2500 from it (parkers says £2950 at the max).

What kinda of annoying experiences have you had with private selling and how long does it take one average, ive seen clio sports on Pistonheads stay for about 3 months at a time before.

You think my '51 1.2 Expression which doesnt even have alloy wheels will take forever or might it be snatched up quickly ?

Any selling tips to bear in mind ?

Cheers guys.

if its a nice clean car itll sell on autotrader no problems my first car went within 2 days of putting it up.
wouldnt of thought pistonheads would of been the best place for 1.2s as i imagine its more for performance cars ect.

Im just laughing at your endless threads about how your changing it in 7months time, 7 months time is ages away, I don't even know what im doing tommorrow, let alone in 7 months time.
You haven't listed the mileage, or whether the cambelt has been done. As long as it hasn't been to the moon and back you should get around £3k maybe abit less as I seem to recall its a 5 door.

Oh well live with it, you could, in the mean time, answer some of the other questions  .

33,000 on the clock, clock broke at 17k i think i dunno how or where to find out.....
Small, very small, crack on wheel arch, noticeable when cleaning car.
Few dents in door from where ppl have bashed their doors but not many, paintwork is unnafected.
VERY small rip in material on the roof of car.
Interior is Mint
Metallic paint
5Doors
New Hub Caps In December
2 New front tyres and new brake pads replaced at 33,000, approx 5 weeks ago now (no proof as was cash in hand) + the wheels were re-alligned.
No Mods, completely standard.
Alpine CD player (dunno which one)

Cambelt is unknown, MOT is unknown and has 10 Months TAX left on it....

So ...

IS it a pain in the ass selling privately, should it be a pain in the ass ?

What does the clock read 33k? So its 33k + 17k in reality?
Anyone with their head screwed on will try and knock you down on the cambelt, but it should be no problem to sell private, Clio's are very popular, safe little cars.

aahh. oki. Well like i said, there are clio sports on pistonheads than have been on for months at a time.

Is it possible to have an MOT done early ? strange question, and is it possible to buy more tax....

  you may know it, clio?
you could sell it quite easy.

shove it on here or auto trader.com

with pictures, millage, colour, number of doors and like radio/cd player

  PHS 1 172 SILVER
i had a 54reg clio only had 9k on the clock and in mint con and i wanted £4800 witch i didnt think was to bad but it didnt sell i posted it in the autotrader and the paper but no1 wanted it, i ended up selling it back to renault where i brought it from for 7k

Your car should sell really quick mate.

If I were you I would put some dynamique alloys on it just to make it appeal to young people (the age group that are most likely to buy 1.2s).

I would go for Autotraders 2 weeks at £16.99. I did this and had no end of interest.

If I were you I would not mention anything about the clocks. It makes the whole car seem a bit suspicious and will put many people off. If you feel morally inclined then I think you should just knock 200 quid off the price or whatever.

I always sell private & never have any problems, my 172 sold to the first viewer, my wifes scenic also (cheers Rob ;))
Preparation is everything, get dents removed, clean & i mean clean it inside & out.
Replace bald tyres, make sure SH is up to date & if it's 3 yrs old get a fresh MOT.
Pricing, if your car is 'mint' you can get away with asking strong money. I always advertise my cars as VGC, so when punter arrives they are usually amazed as to the condition as having viewed several, so called 'mint' cars.

The times i've turned up looked at a motor a driven off cause it was a pile of shite, be honest if it's rough don't put mint cond.

Any car will sell quickly, so long as you put it up at the right price. So many people want too much for their cars, and this is why they are for sale for ages.

Look at similar cars on Auto Trader and price it accordingly. I always try and price mine at the lowest of the group, as I don't think an extra £100-£200 is worth months of waiting around.

^^ Agree with that - it'll sell for the right price.

RE seeing many RS Clios hanging about on Pistonheads - PH does'nt always update if a car is sold, so may distort your view on this

  182 Full Fatt!
You may sell it as long as the person buying it doesn't look at this thread!!!

It is in Piston Head's interest to keep as many adverts on as possible to make it look busy! Having said that I think its free to advertise on there although 15,000 adverts does attract people to the site, which increases the number of hits and therefore exposure of their banner ads = ££££'s.

  RB 200 Cup!
I think its very hard to sell a car privately- since you have to wait til november for the bugger to buy it! lol

  Octavia VRS
I sold my Clio on the first day it went up for sale. It was to a girl at work so I was quite lucky.

  MINI JCW
My 182 sold within 12 hours of being on autotrader. As long as you are honest and price it reasonably then it will sell no probs
