How many cats does a 172 ph2 have?

I'm thinking of treating Amanda's car for a change this month rather than chucking money at the scooby.:dapprove:

I've changed the cat-back system (yet again) to a magnex now but whilst under the car I was thinking to myslef I may change the cat pipe for maybe a sports or de-cat?

Is there another cat on them though?

Can anyone vouch for any performance and free up on rev's on or the other have made?

It has 1 cat.
De-cat will help it rev quicker & sharpen up throttle response.. it'll also help if the car's ecu is mapped to suit.

Just the one unlike the Subarus 2/3 cats

I put a sports cat on my 172 and was very pleased with the results.....just makes it rev a little better and makes the car a more driveable

Looks like i'll be de-catting it then. Has anyone had problems with MOT on de-cat at all (without opening a can of worms)? For Amanda's sake rather than my own I'd rather keep it to the rule book.

Neil G, you so right about the cats on the scooby. I am running a Prodrive sports cat on the down pipe now but once I got shot of the other two boy does it sound good. Just a shame it costs an arm and legg.

one for me too, i can afford the £300 extra for sportscat but id rather get a decat have more power and put that £399 towards a remap. how easy is it to remove add the catalyser if your a total muppet like me ?

It's only nuts and bolts really. Bolts at the manifold end will be a bit awkward to get to mind you.

I'd try and save up for the sports cat Steve....it is expensive but with roadside checks becoming more common etc it'll give you peace of mind.....also makes a good improvement over stock.

The bolts at the manifold end of the downpipe are indeed very awkward to get to but if you've done the downpipe on a Subaru you'll probably find it okay
