How much can an 8v Rsi be tuned??

  Clio 1.8 8v RSi
Hello all, the question has been answered before but can more people tell me again what else can be done to my Clio 1.8 8v RSI apart from the following....

headwork

wilder cam + pulley.....Wider cam..what is a wider cam? And the pulley, is that this one-ALLOY ADJUSTABLE VERNIER PULLEY? From K-Tec Racing

2L bottem end off laguna

Blue printed

remapped

Thanks

Iv just looked on K-Tek Racing, that pulley is for the 16v not the 8v...
Im also having trouble finding the websites for tuning, all i know of is K-TecRacing, what else is there?

Hillpower is theee place for RSi tuning, Nick knows his stuff about these engines.

Ive owned 2 RSi's now and to be honest i would just save your money matey.. you can spend a fair whack on them and get a minimal power gain!

with full head work, different cam/pully and a remap youll only see around 130bhp (which will cost around 2-2.5K)

you can also fit a 2.0L bottom end from a laguna.. a worthwhile/cheap mod, gives alot more toruqe! ;)

i would concentrate on getting the suspension and brakes sorted first, if you already havent?

Theres only one way to tune that. Get an F7P or an F7R (16v or williams) engine.
It's the only way to go. No point in tuning an engine for £2k when you can have 138/150bhp for £200/450 + labour.

Thats exacltly what im doing at the moment, the brakes are crap that are on mine, i dont know if they are just getting thin or are generally this sh*t!?
Can i have some help on the brakes then?
What type or disks and calipers should i go for?

And the suspension, my god this 40mm lowering is for boy racers between 17 and well 17! Would you say coilovers or a suspension kit would do?
Who ever lowered my car before has wasted their money as its sure made no difference to the handleing!

Right well ill skip the tuning then, ill just de cat it and leave it at that, im happy with the power for now anyway i suppose, am waiting for a Williams engine to pop up on Ebay!

i've also wanted to know this before....for quick power boost think custom supercharger/trubocharger....all of which will give u a power output of a 16v engine with 1 or 2 bigger mods. as said its better to just stick another engine in it.

mine currently has a custom side exit exhaust and apollo induction kit...keeping me happy for now... you can put a 1.7 volvo turbo engine in which fits on the RSi engine mounts....

Yes, have asked both of those questions before...Turboing my RSi and The 1.7t volvo engine and what was said was the Turbo conversion is a waste of time and the Volvo engine looks like alot of work :(

as for brakes...i think ur discs/pads are wearing thin...rsi has resonable stopping power without upgrade....but if u gonna upgrade then any vented discs will do but nothing too powerfull or you'll find ur self locking up with just a tap of the pedal....

  1.8 8v RSi
its the electrical side of the engine thats the biggest problem iirc...there's a guy whos done the conversion on here and has 170bhp from it

So maybe even just replacing them with standards will do? I have looked at the grooved and vented disks too, but they are a bit more pricey! I dont want constant locking up either like you said, so ill have to choose carefully i take it?

As for suspension, what should i do in that area?

Also, could i go lower than 40mm with 17s even if i roll the arches?

u dont have to be that care full but just somethign like red-dot will do you nicely....

i've got gaz adjustable shocks and jamex springs on mine lowered down to 45mm.
shocks are perfect (designed more for light bumps/street driving) but springs are useless if u doing country road driving.
shock n springs obviously cheaper alternative but if u can afford em go for coilovers. you'll feel so much more benifit from it

ideally i'd have 16"alloys and u would be risking it a bit lowering it mor than you have...the arches arent wide like the 16v/williams. i have 15s on mine and they handle like a dream and are so much lighter than 17s to.

Iv sorted out brakes...£208 for grooved and fast road pads :D
Now the sustension, Can you tell me where you got ur Gaz/Gas adjustable shocks from? Be great help thanks, Sam

On my RSi i had Spax adjustable shocks with -60mm springs.. very stiff, handled like a go-kart though!!

the car was semi-stripped out..

I had a magnex system with decat

custom Hillpower filter with CAF

and the ecu was chipped

From a standing start up to about 80mph i would stay dead leval with a 16v.. after that they would only slightly pull in front.

Now thats a nice rsi! I used to own a Golf 1.6 as my first car which i lowered -60mm on P.I springs so im used to 'go-kart handleing' and from then on iv loved my low cars :D

Can you help with that suspension kit you had, the Spax Adjustables with -60mm springs..where did you get them from?

Also, what is a CAF that you said is with ur hill power filter?

And the other thing is the ECU.... how much difference did it make bhp wise if you know and is that what helped you get up with the Valvers on exceleration?

Prob my next step after iv got my hands on the -60mm drop is to ditch the 17s (which i know wont even fit with a -60mm drop and get me those Williams rims? Good idea?

Many thanks for you help gray!
Sam

heres a vid of my car runnin santa pod with a valver that had cat back exhaust and induction kit.
my car(black one) had heavy leather interior willy wheels cat back exhaust n induction kit.
valver did it in 16.680
Rsi did it in 16.835.
valver did have a slower start(just)
but these days my cars running lighter wheels stripped out with lightweight buckets. new freer flowing custom side exit exhaust and an appolo induction kit that doesn't suffer from suckin warm air from engine bay. my guess is it now equals the valver on a good run maybe with a good driver could just beat it.... who knows.
