***How much is it worth?***

Morning. Christ its been a few years since I was on here, hope all is well..

Anyway, my Flame Red, FF Mark II 172 is gathering a hell of a lot of dust, so needs shifting. Plus, I'd moved down here to London a while back and who needs a car down here?! It's been off the road for a couple of years (declared SORN, locked up in a garage), so will need a new battery and a bit of tlc, but, main things;

52k
FSH
2 previous owners
Belts done at 30k I think, a few years ago, but probably need doing again in the next 12-18 months.
I *think* the brakes & tyres are all decent.
Standard all-round.

There is a cup spoiler and a spare clutch in the boot though (if anyone wants?)

Manifold needs replacing as its blowing a little.
Bodywork is probably average for a car this age, so few scratches here and there, although the interior is pretty decent.
Air con will def need a good going over too!

What do you lot reckon its worth?

As said by kayzee, belts are not due until November 2015. They were done in Nov 2010 on 21k, so 36k ago. Car is absolutely mint, recently had lower ball joint and track rod end replaced by 519, and fully checked over. Passed MOT in March, not due until end of March 2015.

I am going by prices on AT.

There is a BG on 69k going for £3.7k
An RB Cup on 98k going for £3.7k
An Arctic on 72k going for £3,952.
A Titanium on 64k going for £3,985
and a Cup on 80k going for £3.5k

I haven't seen any of the above but I would be surprised if any were in better condition.

It would be worth 3750/3800 if it was the following-

A dealer sale,Full dealer History, Cambelt less than 2.5 years ago & done by a Renault dealer or well known specialist, Excellent branded tyres. No marks.

The fact the belts are semi due, the fact its a private sale its nearer 3k, probs 3250 -3400 tops.
Also the bit with the belts, you haven't said whether the aux belt kit was changed & who changed the belts- if it was an independent garage then all it does is knock the price more.

the reason the above cars are still on AT is because they haven't sold because they are way overpriced. - & you cant compare dealer prices V private sale prices. ( if you were )

I think a lot of those prices are wishful thinking? And not private sales? I bought an Arctic on 39k 5 years ago for £4400.

Best of luck with the sale Jordi.

If you actually want to sell it I would list it on here for £3750 & go from there. It looks a nice car.

Remember what its listed for & what it actually sells for are 2 different things.....

I think it does reduce the value slightly, but only to people on here. Auto Trader crew aren't going to care. Although you could argue if the car's been running fine since it had been done from a back street garage, they have obviously done it alright.

It does effect price, more so in enthusiasts eyes than it does joe public-

Local garages will use Non OEM parts, & more often than not change the cambelt & the aux belt only. There will be no inspection of the water pump or dephaser pulley & they probably wont use the correct tools.

Just because its running, doesn't mean to say its running well.

I would say the price difference is less pronounced the further you get down the years its been done, so if its been done 3 years ago it wont matter so much, however if its just been done by bodgit & scarper with a yin yan belt & no aux kit that does effect what its worth V if its been done by say birchdown with all the belts done properly inc aux belt kit.

You get what you pay for......

  182 Trophy
I did the belts myself with genuine belts and dephaser. No I didn't use the correct tool, but yes it times up perfectly afterwards ;)

Its come up on conversation with four different Indy mechanics now and they all asked if it was a pain, whether I used genuine stuff and triple checked timing.

Not all of them are bad - don't forget its not just the Clio that has these issues.

  Fiesta ST-2
When I had my second cambelt change a few years into my ownership (due to the dephaser pulley) I found out the previous Renault specialist had timed it up pretty bad. Drove so much better after the second belt change. If I was in the market for a Renaultsport clio in the future, I would only get one that had been serviced somewhere reputable.

Most people don't care and certainly don't look into whether it was OEM or not.

Most people haven't even heard of an aux belt, water pump or dephaser.

To be honest most people won't even be able to tell if a car's not running 100% as it should be, that goes for sellers and buyers! Before I came on here I'd owned 8 cars and hadn't a clue about any of that stuff! I sure have learnt a lot, but the general public never do... to them a car's a car, not a hobby.

Still reckon asking a premium for all the above effects probably 10% of the market.

  Fiesta ST-2
Depends on your luck tbh, when I tried to sell my car a few years back each person knew it had a
dephaser rattle. The guy who bought my car the other week didn't even have the bonnet open with the engine running or check half the service history.

I've genuinely never had a buyer open a bonnet of a car I'm selling lol. Usually just a 5 minute test drive, "Yeah that'll do mate" job done.

  Fiesta ST-2
Well I wish he'd had come to buy the car years ago, would have saved me a lot of money not having to keep it, and then pay for all the belts and dephaser to be done lol.

I personally think that's a 1300 quid car. I think it will need a dephaser and a key plus lots of other bits.

Yeah I would have walked away at the original price but using the special spring DISCOUNT :p it could still work out a decent deal...
