This just doesnt happen, i had a bit play with one not long ago and I just kept pulling away in every gear.

Hilarious thread.... the best bit being on page 5 when someone reckons that the "Clio Sport" came with three different engine versions... a 1.4 8v, 2.0 16v and "another one".

its law of physics that the clio would win, power to weight ratio would be far superior, corsa 1.8's are circa 8 seconds to 60 so approximatly fiesta st pace to 60 and we know what happens there.

Like one of the posters says in the forum. If one dropped the clutch a second before the other the difference in a straight drag races is eliminated.

The corsa 1.8----------- 0-60 8.0
Clio 1#2-----------------0-60 7.0

Over a longer distance or over so twisty roads the clio would have it but in a straight drag it just depends on who jumps the lights first.

+ in the post he says “he didn’t pull away” not I beat him.

Some of the comments on that website are just plain stupid, one guy says that for a 2ltr clios arnt that quick! ....what a chavvy bel end!
The car must have been a replica, giving us cliosport drivers a slow name!

This is roughly what each cars stats are, somehow i dont think there is anyway the SRI could have won.
Corsa SRI 1.8:-
123 bhp.
114.66 bhp per ton.
Weight 1090.
0-60 - 9.11.

Clio 182/cup/Trophy:-
182 bhp.
170.92 bhp per ton.
Weight 1090.
0-60 - 6.44.

With them stats even if the SRI did get a better start the clio would have easily pulled it back, no questions, end of.

it's probably a similar story as people posting on here about keeping up or beating Scoobs and Evo's to be fair. Plus look at the average age of their posters, they are pre-schoolers.

... might pop over with a dose of reality either way though

A FQ 340 had a go at me of the light yesterda :D i was quicker on the clutch, then he flew past, he was slightly embaressed cos he went through the next lights on red and didnt stop to say hi :D
They are alot faster i know, i dont stand a chance but i was quicker on reaction time :D made me feel happy if nothing else :p

I like how the Clio being a second quicker makes it a miss-match but race an Evo/Subaru and it 'really' close.

There is no corsa-c faster than a rs clio. We know this, they know this but there is always going to be “races” where things don’t go how they should.

A fluffed gear change, Wheel spin in the went, one goes on amber the other was thinking green etc etc

Like I said there is a second in acceleration times between theses cars (scott7912 stats are a maths calculation not a real world figure. All mags site 8.0 for the corsa) and all that’s needed is the Clio drive getting excited and wheel spin for a second and its completely plausible that a 1.8 corsa could have it.


i had a "race" with a cors-c 1.8 when i had my 172. i won but it wasnt a “Destroyed” affair

Exactly. Worse yet in real terms is that the Corsa is probably more 9 seconds to 60 and the Clio around 6ish

I have a confession, the driver of the clio was me in my dads 172, I went round there & borrowed it from him. Tbh I was granny shifting like a b*tch & I didn't double de-clutch.

I also know that is doesn't matter whether you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning.

I do confess I got raped by the corsa, fair play to the dude*































* Of course, all of the above is complete bs.
