ilya's 172 #BECAUSE_RACE_CAR

Little vid from Bedford 25/09/18

I am happy, it’s faster around Bedford than my RS4 by a good 6sec. Not that I was timing or anything. [emoji13]
Camera is about 4inch from
The ground. Hard mounted to splitter. A little too low I think. Need to revise that.

Defo to low mate. Car is coming along nicely though.

What tyres did you end up going for to replace the RS1's?

Bough 6 used Dunlop’s to try out. Think they are grippier than toyos.

Does the splitter make such a difference, that you can tell on the cornering speeds on your laptimer? Or is the difference based on how the car feels? I'm interested to hear a bit more on this.

I did not do side by side tests unfortunately. But I can 100% feel it in the high speed corners. Front is digging in a lot more tendency to oversteer

I thought it was the rear wheel steering kicking in. ?

November 2018
(Technically this was done in October)

Not much to say about this upgrade.
4 pots, custom j-hook discs, RC6 pads, new fluid. Total weight saving is 7.2kg of unsprung weight!!! I believe it’s equivalent to x6 of sprung weight and equates to 43kg. Please correct me if I am wrong! But certainly I can feel the difference! Many thanks to Anthony @ACSMOTORSPORT for supplying this and helping fit and set up!

Also had to do some last minute surgery to get 15” to fit.

That looks awesome! If you don’t mind me asking, roughly how much did the graphics cost?
this kind of work is very very difficult to average price. all greatly depends on material used, amount of it, time taken, and a few other factors. mine cost me £600. but it may be different for you. so please don't quote me on that price :) "why mine is 650 and you done that guy for 6" kinda thing haha.. you know what i mean.

How is this made up? Discs, calipers and wheels?
Didn't realise that unsprung weight was 6x normal.
Spot on work as usual BTW.

G
discs are 2kg lighter and calipers are 1.6kg lighter(including pads and brackets). i could be wrong about 1:6 conversion. some say it can be as much as 1:10. but either way. even if it was only 7.2kg 1:1 its defo a big drop from original weight.

Twingo 1??

That's still good! Are the discs just standard 172 size? Just my Twingo 133 runs 172 discs but the calipers are mk3 Laguna. So could potentially save weight and they are more efficient cooling.

Yes they are 280mm

  dan's cast offs.
Should of gone for wilwoods, 4 pot is 1.6kg as opposed to 2.25kg for the brembo and you can get pads for a fraction of the price as well.

@bloke which wilwood caliper would you recommend? they have so many 4 pot calipers available. I had a set on a previous clio and tbh i wasn't overly impressed with them.

Be interesting to see how you get on with these..... the brembo conversion was the worst mid I did to the Trophy. Don’t get me wrong, the brakes were awesome, but too awesome as they kept locking the wheels.... too much stopping power!

I had to run different spec pads for cold and wet days (DS 1.11) and could only run the more aggressive RC6 on hot days.

You are running about 10% more power than I was, but with your next outing in December it should be interesting to see the results

Stoping power is massively overspect now you not wrong! Especially on RC6 pads. But to be fair it was just as easy to lock up on oem calipers with RC6s. Planing to remove vacuum assist see what that does. Also have a set of PBS coming. They aren’t as aggressive as RC6 so might be an option for future. Will see how I get on on the 2nd!

Agreed, biggest issue is the cold with tyres not performing, doesn’t help anything. Goid to get your feed back after the 2nd

Been trying to catch up on all the builds similar to mine.

Looks like this has been going well, the brake upgrades look great. Will be interested to hear what you think about the RC6. I have had them for years gathering dust whilst the build has slowly progressed so keen to hear how they do. Shame I am busy this weekend as I am only 15mins from Silverstone. The brake cooling looks good too, is that a piece of guttering?

All the best for the weekend chap.

Thanks mate :) got a few upgrades lined up during the winter just want to get Silverstone out of the way.
And yes 45deg elbow and clip [emoji2958][emoji1787][emoji108] if it works it work right. It’s plastic, light weight and black. And the right size!

Not their cheaper ones. Those flex under braking (or certainly used to)
I went for Alcons for my car but unsprung weight is a great way to stabilise the chassis over bumpier parts as the suspension can react faster to the changes in road surface. Even your spring brand can make a difference :D
For my car I've gone for split rims too to try to keep the weight to a minimum.

December.
Not much to update. Done nothing for the past few weeks apart from doing another day at Silverstone.

Had a little mishap tho. Lost 2 bolts on the 5th gear gearbox cover thingy. Lost a bit of oil. But luckily managed to find some spare bolts that fitted, and some oil. Apart from that brill!

Few upgrades are coming in a couple of weeks.
cf38c3eaa53b0771b744a23477f13fcd.jpg

Also swirl pot, flat boot floor, diffuser, sideskirts, and custom front member..

Also had a shake down after winter at Bedford to reveal any faults that needed attention.
NONE. Worked flawlessly!
Here is my flying lap.
