Track knowledge over horsepower wins there don’t it.

Hope your having a good time. [emoji1303]

Had an amazing time! Unfortunately around 4pm 5th gear decided it had enough and pooped itself. Back home now. Had a look and it’s confirmed. Full rebuilt needed.

Well done, looks great fun! The only time to beat is this time if you go next year in the same car with the same weather.

It it road legal cars only for the trackday? I guess it would have to be if you tag on some tourist days before/after the trackday or getting the car up to the GP track if you want a go on there as well? But the actual trackday, has it got to be road legal?

On a organised open pit lane trackday, then no I don’t believe it needs to be road legal. The only thing would be re-fueling as the petrol station is 10mins down the road. The full day was 8am to 4.30pm. Trust me 2 laps back to back is enough before you need a 15-20 break for car and body. I did 22 laps in total and went pax for 2 laps in @pule333 and another 2 in our mates RS4. We could have gone out on TF but TBF it was enough for all of us. TF laps would have to be road legal though I believe.

Cheers guys, it’s not an issue as I can MOT my car again but was seeing if I would leave it as an ‘off the road’ car. We stay at the Ring House which is 300m away and I have loads of fuel cans so that’s not an issue. But if we do it I’d probably like to tag on some evening tourist sessions, GP track etc so might be worth making it road legal temporally again.

Sorry I’ve hijacked the thread! But you’ve got me planing out the same trip next year ?

Well we will definitely be doing it again next year. We booked through Circuit days and Chris and co always organise a well tuned event. It’ll be great to all be there as team Cliosport.net and RS246.com. We had as much laughs on and off the track.

April 2019

While the gearbox is out and sent to @NorthloopCup for a rebuild. Decided to look in to my steering. Still not 100% happy with the way it feels.
Decided I want a quicker rack in the original SMI casing.

The main pinion needed a bearing pressed in. Didn’t want to go to a local garage looking for a press, decided to make my own lol.

Worked a treat :) I am sure I will find more use for it. Especially with 15ton capacity.
Will try this with my epas set up first. If still not happy will try with out.

Great job on the press! You will not be disappointed with the quicker ratio.

I have around 5.3deg of castor and the front end is very stable although 100+ things are a little twitchy, though you can really feel the front end grip and just gives you more confidence. Maybe you should see how things are with more as that that might be whats missing with your setup?

Now that you’ve finished that rack, can you build me one up please. Mates right?

Feel like update is overdue on this..
may/June 2019
First of, ventured more in to YouTube lately.
Hence the lack of picture updates.

Did an Anglesey Trackday in May.
Had a small mechanical failure towards the end. One of my roll Center correction ball joint pins have snapped. Snapped where it wasn’t meant to snap. Resulting in a short track closure lol. Full vid is on my Channel.

Could be my fitting error. Over-tightening or actualy not enough. Or could have been a bad batch of metal with internal weak point. Luckily as a replacement was supplied much stronger carbon steel version. Mechanicaly bonded to the new hubs with F1 bonding adhesive [emoji41]. F1 Clio 172 now haha.

One of the wishbones was damaged from recovery track so needed to replace those. Decided to upgrade to PMS bearing kit at same time.

body panels were straightened, welded, fibreglassed and refited.

good as new! Car was assembled in time for snetterton and successfully passing a test.
Here is a vid for wishbone reinforcement

Achieved 3.1deg of caster. I like!

This is my worry with this style roll center kit (i have the same kit fitted) over the one that Northloop does, Im sure they decided to go with a pressed fit into the hub for this very reason.

Was there any play on the ball joint taper on the old hub that could of caused stress at the pinch bolt groove.

It’s hard so say. Like I said it could have been a number of reasons. I simply don’t remember how well it fitted inside the hub before. They were used hubs. So very good chance the hole was not with in tolerance. The thing is, high stress components do fail on race cars. No way of predicting anything when pushing to it’s limits.

Nothing really changed. Still collecting parts for my new engine. Been trying to expand my YouTube Channel as well. If you not subscribed yet, What are you waiting for? Lol subscribe now!! Lots of good coming up.

Did my First competitive even at Blyton park with Javelin sprit series.
Being a turbo this put me in J07 class. Among mini Gp2s and other more exotic machines.
But nevertheless I managed 5th in class out of 12 cars and 20th overall out of 76 cars. (But I think only 56 rank up in normal classes. But 76 sounds way better.)
My best time was 1:12.39
Overall great day! Will do a few again next season.

Also. My tow vehicle has been decommissioned by an Uber [emoji2960][emoji25]

will find out what’s happening with it next week.

Love this build with all the little touches , more so that its all home built.

With the roll center kit thats the 4th one i know of thats sheared in the same position , a friend is looking into getting some new pins machined out of higher quality steel and also with out the lock nut.
He had an engineering company look at them that machines some F1 parts and they picked up a number of design flaws in them that could cause dangerous shear points.
