im a convicted driver!! insuring a clio

hey there,

im thinking of buying another clio soon obviously only a 1.2 mk1 as i have 16 points on my licence and ive just come back from a LONG 6 month ban. my best quote so far is 3k to insure a 1.2 clio

does anyone on here recomend a nice cheap insurance company for convicted drivers?

pls help! i dont want to have to drive a 1.0 nova :(

any websites with a online quote facility would be nice :)

thanks

try 020 8311 4488

Thamesbank Insurance services quoted me £1800 dor a Clio 1.8 16v M reg

I have a drink driving conviction.

tesco, directline, elephant, all do online quotes, and most other insurers now. Just out of curiousity WTF did you do to get 16 points!?

lol..........

2 convictions

8 points per time = 16 points!

both for no insurance offences :(

i tried elephant.co.uk they gave me a quote of 2k for a 94 1.2 but elephant only accept payments in full! i dont think i can get 2k that easy lol.

Best thing is to try searching for insurers using a search engine, failing that get the yellow pages and ring around. Insurance is a con mate. Last year with two years no claims my insurance on a 1.2 8v Punto was £970 fully comp. My mate same age pays £350 under his mums insurance for his 1.8 Mondeo fully comp and hes never had insurance on his own, and hes written his last car off twice both his fault!

Ive had a12 month ban for dangerous driving (not me, honest guvnor) which landed me with a DD40 conviction code (no points), and my insurance is just over £600 fully comp for 1.8 16v with the AA.

to damn right insurance is a con!

personally i dont understand why it costs me 2k for a £800 car to insure. points shouldnt automatically adjust the price by £1000s. i admit i was driving for 1 year with no ins BUT i didnt crash or drive dangeriously at all. only reason why the feds pulled me over is cos once i had no seat belt on and the other time he looked at me and thought my pupils looked big so he thought i was on drugs LMAO.

anyway, yeah ill give that search engine thing ago and see what it brings up, so would my insurance be alot cheaper then if say my step dad put my name onto his insurance?????

CIS do policies for any driver and they not that expensive, they do named drivers over 21 but if you want anyone under that they say you have to have any driver!! Now if you could put it in someone elses name with any driver then you laughing but.....you wont be building up any no claims and tempting as it is to put it off insurance is only going to get more expensive!

CIS is a great way for young people to drive nice big engined cars,

18yrs old I was driving a 1.6 modded orion, then a 2.0i sierra then the daddy of all grandad cars a 2.0i rear wheel drive carlton!!! God I miss the arse out action!!!

What was the nature of your no insurance conviction m8? I cant thelp thinking that if youve been delibrately driving round with no insurance for years that you kind of deserve paying the higher premiums.

Ive been paying high premiums since I was 17, at least some of that is down to people who dont bother insuring their cars and have crashes. If theres some other explanation fair enough but if you have not insured your car and been caught twice you deserve everything you get.

Is it just me who thinks its a little ironic that insurance companies penalise you heavily for a no-insurance conviction, considering the fact that youre clearly not committing the offence again by the very act of seeking insurance cover?! I think its a little unfair. I mean a speeding conviction may indicate a propensity to drive fast, which in turn could be linked to more accidents, careless driving/dangerous driving/drink driving more so, but IN10 says what?? You once drove without insurance, and the ins. co. youre applying to know youre not doing it again! So in rating terms, why raise the price? And companies who decline cover to people with INxx convictions, thats even worse! The person clearly learnt their lesson or they wouldnt be phoning you for a quote!! Youre just encouraging, almost forcing, them to drive without insurance again because they cant get cover!!!

I guess its revenge that is motivating the decision. Perhaps I should set up an insurance co. offering cheap(ish) cover to people with a clean risk apart from no-insurance convictions, then Id probably make a fortune!

By the way, I in no way condone driving without insurance, it inflates all of the honest publics premiums. I just think that 8 points and a big fine is the punishment, and theres no justifiable logic in insurers giving hugely higher premiums for this particular conviction.

adi, that guy could have still claimed from the police using an after accident legal policy, specially if his neck hurt.......;) theyre be a deduction for no insurance though

my point exactly mate!

and yes i was driving around delibratly without insurance  but now im TRYING to do everything right but it makes it even worse for me getting quotes like 4k for a 1.2! only if they knew ive never crashed a car maybe it would be cheaper.

i think maybe i should get my step dad to register my car in his name and use his insurance company to get insurance on it with me being the main driver. think this would be ALOT cheaper?

oh boy i made a MASSIVE mistake driving with no ins :(
