Is it just me who thinks its a little ironic that insurance companies penalise you heavily for a no-insurance conviction, considering the fact that youre clearly not committing the offence again by the very act of seeking insurance cover?! I think its a little unfair. I mean a speeding conviction may indicate a propensity to drive fast, which in turn could be linked to more accidents, careless driving/dangerous driving/drink driving more so, but IN10 says what?? You once drove without insurance, and the ins. co. youre applying to know youre not doing it again! So in rating terms, why raise the price? And companies who decline cover to people with INxx convictions, thats even worse! The person clearly learnt their lesson or they wouldnt be phoning you for a quote!! Youre just encouraging, almost forcing, them to drive without insurance again because they cant get cover!!!
I guess its revenge that is motivating the decision. Perhaps I should set up an insurance co. offering cheap(ish) cover to people with a clean risk apart from no-insurance convictions, then Id probably make a fortune!
By the way, I in no way condone driving without insurance, it inflates all of the honest publics premiums. I just think that 8 points and a big fine is the punishment, and theres no justifiable logic in insurers giving hugely higher premiums for this particular conviction.
