Insurance, How does it sound?

  BMW E36 328
Ive just done a quote on go compare as my insurance is due for renewal in jan, my current insuance company wont insure any modifications, with everything declared

Suspension
Induction Kit
Rear bumper
Spacers
Seats
exhaust
strut braces
Cd player

The first quote came to £3,006.58 with Quinn Direct that is the cheapes i could find on comparrison sites does this is very expensive is anyone else aged 18 insuring their car on their own with mods know any cheaper place :S this is daylight robberey lol

Go direct to places ! Comparison places are awful ! add your mother or your aunt to it too, it'll drop a bit.

3k is madness ! What is it on a standard car ? What are you paying now ? What's your excess etc ?

No its got all of the above on it at the mo but not declared so im going to change insurers and declare it all in 2010 i am currently paying 2095 as a standard car so its an extra £1000 for the mods

I'd sack the mods off tbh, paying a grand for a few mods is mad imo. Try elephant etc.

BTW - as it stands you are not covered.

Do Flux or any of the other specialists insure under 21s? If so, try them.

Most normal places, don't take nicely to mods, esp at 18.

I don't think you can look at it as £1k more either. If you're currently paying £2100, I'd expect next year to be £1500-1800 standard, maybe more if you've got NCB, so it's a lot of extra money for the mods.

What he said! Going direct can save you hundreds, just try EVERY company. Having your mum etc has saved me loads as well!

At the min, i'd not use the car at all, esp in this weather ! Esp as it's not properly insured.

Like I said, paying a grand for mods is madness.

  Clio Dyn 1.2
When i was 18 (last year) i paid £986 for insurance on my 1.2 clio dynamique. That was with elepehant, with my mam and dad as named drivers on MY policy. I found mods upped the premium by 40 per mod.

Hope this helps

dont declair your mods then itle be cheaper

LOL I bet he never thought of that!

You must live in a crappy area mate I was

18
0NCB
3 points
1.2 with wheels lowering and exhaust
£1000 fully comp

with Elephant.

The strut braces and induction kit are pointless so sell them on, and you don't have to declare a CD player. So there's some money saved out of the quote.

As has been said really. Admiral/Bell/Elephant have always been cheapest for me. I add my mum an auntie to the policy. Brings it down. You need your head examining if you end up paying £3k for a Clio though imo. You will pay more in one year than I have in my entire 5 year driving 'career'.

dont tell them ebout mods=£800
declair= 3k you choice

no need for sarcasm
Nice edit there, but I read it before it changed.

He won't be insured if he doesn't declare them, that's all, no if's of buts on it.... now you've changed you tune since post 11, lol !!

if your gonna ditch the coilovers leave the wheels and grill on it, 1 wheels look exactly the same as standard non sport wheels (you didnt know they werent standard and same with the grill) when i had my accident the insurance didnt even blink an eyelid

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
Try Asda, when I was with Asda I had coilovers, side skirts, front spoiler, exhaust and 17s all on it declared and it added about £400, taking it to £1400ish IIRC. This was a few years back though. Also sometimes (although obv this can be seen as fronting so beware) if you insure your car as a standard car for £900 or w/e it was and then add the modifications on a few weeks later then it used to work out cheaper than declaring them out right. Of course it means to be insured then for the 1st few weeks you need to take the mods off but if it saves you around £2k then its worth doing...

Eeeeeee! Insurance worth more than your car!

Take them off and put up with owning a simple car until you build up no claims ect...

i dont trust flux as on my 106 they wanted 3500 for a 1.1 with wheels and suspension and i had a clean licence and i was 19

For me, 1.2 Clio with my mods declared - £3k everywhere. Flux was half that. Suppose it's different for different people!
