Is my engine knackered after the oil leak

  R35 GTR
Renault have told me that an overpressure in the oil pump caused it to blow out the fuel filter and some seals or something, basically dumping all of my oil while i was driving.

I smelled alot of burning and there was smoke as i stopped, plus i heard faint sounds of grinding.:(

Renault say it will be fixed by friday, will they be able to check if it is damaged or will it be driveable, and not noticeable for a while?

Update:just found out that they are going to fix the above parts, then switch it on before they know if any damage has been caused.

Should i be asking for other parts to be changed as well, as with no oil there would definitely be high wear on some components that would shorten their life in the long run.

I think if its going to be dead it will knock like mad when its started, i had a car that split an oil cooler hose and dumped all its oil, only noticed when i stopped and it looked like it was on fire!!! That engine lived!! you might be ok

Another update.....crank shaft bearings are being replaced, and if rest of engine is fine later on, I will be asking for a new cam belt + aux belt, which they said would be done if oil got onto it.:D

how the oil pump causes the fuel filter to fail i'll never know LOL!!!!!

Quality, renualt nobs!

How does the oil pump 'over pressurize'. Surely it would need dead heading or some kind of restriction? (positive displacement pump?) Could this indicate a breather problem too?

Mines got a little whine to it as it revs, i thought it might be a dry idler... now i'm quite worried.

Is the repar being done under the cars warenty? I thought you only got 12 months on repairs you paid to have carried out. Plus if the engine goes later as a direct result of the original problem this will not be covered by the warrenty of the repair.

If a breather was blocked the pressure would build in the engine until something gives. Don't take this as gospel, fred or one of the other guru's will have more detail/technical knowledge. Had the oil filter been changed recently? Have you seen it? Could it be a defective filter/ fault in the material?

Got the car back now, i noticed at one moment there was no power when i put foot on accelerator in first.

I now have no traction control or esp.......why? This light came on when the car was towed to renault.

The engine is knocking, only happened for about a minute, but it was loud enough to be heard in the car.

I have another light on along with the service light.

I have to give Renault wolves some credit though, as they squeezed me in after a little persuasion.

They wont do the cam belt as it got no oil on it.

Also, my engine sounds sh*t.:(

Personally mate i would be throwing the car back at them on monday and telling them that you want it back in the condition it was before the problem. I.E. no engine knocks, all esp etc working and also i would try and get the belts done by saying that they did have oil on them as you saw the oil on them. Would be even better with pictures of oil on them ;)

Seriously mate i have had a car in the past (puma) and that went in for engine work under warrenty and it wasnt right so took it back again, and again and again. In the end i gave up with it and lived with it but i was never happy and always wish i had of kicked off a little more with ford.

I phoned them up and they told me if I'm not happy to bring it back on monday/tuesday.

I am not happy at all.:(

I've been for a drive and its still quick, so i dont know if I should be worrying about the knocking, or the lack of traction control.lol. But they are gonna sort it.

Could be a bunged up pressure relief spring in the oil pump

My car is not well :(, but still fooking quick.lol. It actually picks up better lower down the rev range and off the line, before it would stall if revs werent high enough.
