Is this Right ? K-Tec Stealth Mk2

Surely a Stealth Mk2 isn't meant to fit like this ? (Ignore the cut in the bumper, it's from my other exhaust)

I had it fitted last Saturday and it just rattled non stop, we then spent hours last Sunday adjusting it and testing it with no luck at all.

I then got it booked in last Thursday at a local garage to see what they could do. They took it off, refitted it the best they could and even added a bracket between the backbox and the spare wheel well. Great, that stopped the backbox rattling but now it knocks on the back axle.

So i've got a couple of questions :

1) Has anyone else had this many problems?

2) Does anyone else's hang below the bumper instead of being 'neatly hidden behind the rear bumper giving a standard look' as described on their site?

I emailed K-Tec last Tuesday to check i'm meant to be using the Renault mounts and to check i wasn't missing something from mine, but i've had no reply so far.

Taking the cost of the exhaust and labour (about £400 now) i probably could have had a custom stealth system made cheaper and it'd be right by now !

Looks like its hanging too low, i.e the back box isn't mounted high enough, but also it doesnt look like its set back far enough.:S

I have this exact problem mate, i'll post up some pics, got mine fitted a couple of weeks back. It seems to hang really low :dapprove:

one of the problems with an "off the shelf" exhaust.

David was sure that he'd fixed all the bugs with the new exhaust, so maybe worth popping over here to let them fit it for you?

^maybe the garage where it was fitted didnt realise its meant to be stealth so hung it low?

Is this right?

I think the fact you bought a 'stealth' exhaust and you can still see it tells you it's not right.

Seem to be quite afew fitting issues with these exhausts.

I got a new Renault bracket\mount fitted with mine, thought i'd stick a pic up. Is this adjustable then do we think ?? Surely more people must have come across this :dapprove:

This is mine. It sits even better now it been tweaked a bit. The rear box has a hanger that is on a 'band'. If you rotate the band/hanger around the box that I reckon you should be able get it sitting right! I'll have a proper look tomorrow at mine if you're still stuck;)

Showoff

Yeah I finally got a few pics done ! I'm not quite sure which bit I can tweak or whatever, Adam says he's had his mechanic brother messing with it for a while too, so i'm not sure what good I can do hehe

If you could have a look at yours\pics that would be great, as yours sits perfect mate :)

Here is my stealth,

Had it for a couple of months, sits up nice, never rattles or vibrates, well pleased with it.
PPL with problems is probably due to the fact that the garages fitting them dont have the time to get it perfect.

you will need to bend that "band" after turning it to make it fit the curve of the rear box.

Yeh, I'm sure it's just a case of bend and rotating;) Shame I didn't fit mine as I could have been some help! I just got the garage to do it when my 'cat' problem was being sorted. I can ask the guys there what they did if worst comes to worst!

I reckon it's just been fitted poo! The zorst has to go over the rear beam then come down again. The amount it drops is dictated by 2 things, the height of the mount on the car (fixed at a set height with a rubber mount in it I think) and the position of the mount on the box. Either the mont on the car is in the wrong place (this I doubt) or the mount on the box hasn't bee positioned right! Rotate it lower on the box, this should lift it up!

How do these stealth backboxes sound? thinking of getting one but dont want anything thats loud, just slightly louder than standard is enough.

usual pisssh quality, give it a few thousand miles and the insides will fall apart. Being a stealth and the noises it makes now people just think the exhaust is shagged. I suppose it is though.

  Turbos.
Better than looking like a chav...?

Sorry but it hangs low due to poor fitting by whoever did it, not because of the exhaust. The older k-tec is hard to get a perfect fit at the joins though.

Have you fitted/used a new steath? If so, I don't know how you can slate the quality:S It's the best fitting exhaust I've ever had and is very adjustable. Also the quality of build on mine is great. I'm sure there are other exhaust that are just as good out there, maybe better, but I wouldn't say the K-Tec system is poor quality! We'll see what happens though, It may fall apart:D I like the way it sounds, the built, the ease of fitment, the decent noise levels on the motorway and the fact there's no 'chavvy' pipe jutting out the back;)

I've had my Mk1 stealth on for a year and it hasn't fallen off yet....sounds even better now than when I put it on as well.

That exhaust is way too low though....is the Renault bracket with the rubber insert okay?

I thought this too Neil but my Renault bracket/rubber mount is pretty shafted and is sagging about as far as it can! Mine still sits ok! It's got to be the mount on the box!

hey guys sorry to go off course but will this exhaust sit right on a mk2 ph2 1.4 or will there be alot of bidging involved? Was considering getting one but after seeing it being fitted badly on a 172 (which its meant to fit) just made me think about my 1.4... :(

i had a stealth type exhaust made by longlife in carshalton and its not very stealth at all.I've now modified it my self by cutting the piece that comes out of my rear box and fitting a sensible chrome sized tail piece from halfrauds. It now looks like the ones you see on the clios that raced in last years clio cup series(not identical).Still i spose it'll do till i can afford a decent exaust

my stealth tucks up so you cant even see the pipe. the backbox is about 1cm off the heat sheild.

the downturned tial pipe end is at the same level as the bottom of the bumper.

took some wiggling etc to get it to sit that nicely though. worth it as it doesn't look any different at all from standard.

cant get enough of the sound. full on rasp when you boot it. very nice :)

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
my 172 exhaust was similar, firstly i packed the bottom of the exhaust mount, this raised it up alot.
then i was getting the rattle from the axel.
it was a pain but basically you need to free everything off, wedge the back box as high as you can get it, tighen it all up and then see what happens when you let the back box go.
i ended up having a 2nd exhaust mount on my 1.4. did the job and all the rattling went.

my stealth fits perfectly its the mk1 stealth too a lot less adjustment than the mk2, just get someone who knows what they are doing to fit it, very impressed with mine not any louder than standard.

  Turbos.
That shot is taken from a helicopter though right ;)

As long as you're happy mate, just showing it's not impossible, as after all it is meant to be hidden :)

  Clio 172 mk2
Sorry but that tailpipe on the MK2 looks pretty ropey compared to the Mk1.

Like Englebert says....pipe should be pretty much hidden.

  Lionel Richie
the tailpipe had been cut on the piss, thats how it came, quality of the system is quite good, but it weighs a ton!
